I just bought one of the Ping Chip R"s. I tried it on the course today for the first time and I do like it a lot. I have a Cleveland Smart sole chipper too but I like the Ping even more. I find it easier to hit and pop up in the air with directionality towards the hole. A new club for 2024 season. Great review as always Andrew. Joe

I am old enough that I do not have the ego anymore. I saw the chip r and I am very curious to try one. I am not a good chipper and could use all the help I can get. Great video thanks

Hi Chuck, can 100% recommend. So easy to use. Thanks for watching.

I dont have an ego anymore either, and am a relatively good chipper of the ball, however having teated the chipR i found it really helps in a number of situations and consistently beat my wedges in terms of ease, strike and consistency. I bought it, and i has already in 5 rounds saved me at least 5-10 shots. I still chip with a 56 etc when situations require it (over a bunker etc) however if you have a space in your bag, this can only help, no matter your handicap. I love it, its legal cheating 😏

I bought one from Andrew about 4 months ago, after some practice and working out when to use and not to use ( that is dependant on the idividual). It has helped me eliminate lots of the shanks / thinned shots I used to make with wedges or high irons. As a bogey handicap (16) golfer I have found useful, probably not so much for low handicap golfers.

I do think its a good option for the bag Andrew. It will make golf easier and fun. Great review. I do have a 37 degree chipper now that I like now but the Ping one looks interesting. Good review. It will definitely help many.

Great club for the golfer who struggles with this area of the game.

I bought one ☝🏻 … and I love it! I haven’t hit a chip FAT or THIN since! I highly recommend it. 👍🏻 It took me a little while to figure it out (it’s not like chipping with a wedge), but I have it down now. Saved me quite a few strokes already. I haven’t used it much from 30 or 40 yards (as you suggest), but it’s a game saver around the greens. It does run out (has 9-iron loft), so not as good when you’re short-sighted (with not much green to the hole), but what club is? I took my 3-wood out of the bag to make room (I hit my 5-wood as long as my 3, but my 5 is more accurate).

Brilliant, I think this club could be a game changer for many golfers.

Ordered one 6 weeks ago from American Golf and I’m still waiting for the delivery! With great anticipation as the videos are very positive whereas my chipping isn’t 😂

I’ve played mine in two competitions in the last two weeks. On each case I estimate it saved me 5-6 shots per round by getting close enough to the hole to one put where I would usually leave my shot short, wide or long. It also doesn’t look out of place in the bag which is Ping woods, PxG irons and Vokey wedges.

Great to hear Steve, they have been so popular that Ping are sold out till November!!

I'm a 18 handicapper and on average I score around the mid to high 80's. My biggest problem is GIR. I bought the Ping ChipR last week and my first round with it, I scored 77. This club took 6 shots off my score. Easily one of the best purchases I've made.

HiAndrew, I tried one last year, couldn’t get on with it, give me a sand wedge with plenty of bounce any time. Good video.

Good review Andrew. I can see it would be a good buy for a lot of club golfers. Personally I would recommend investing in myself and have lessons from a pro who teaches you how to play shots with a variety of clubs depending in lie, distance and possible obstacles. How many lessons would you get for £150? Learning the skills from a teaching pro is for life.

I ordered one Graphite to match my chat shot that I use in my G425 37 inch long I play 1.5 in over and Left handed I'm counting down the days till it comes in!!! Played 3 rounds last week and would have used it 8 to 9 times per rounds and if it helps then I can cut a couple 2 or even the awful 3 putt then I can cut Conservatively 3 to 5 shots around. Which could then help me live in the high 70s amd low 80s at my home course

I do fancy one of these, but not without trying it. What are my chances as a lefty? Pretty slim, I'd say.

Don't think many places would carry a demo in left hand Peter.

Iv got myself one of these would u recommend a putter grip on it maybe not the big Chucky ones but maybe pings putter grip as u hit this club like a putter to me it makes sense
@andrewainsworth4972 жыл бұрын
Good point.
@Steve-jq4st Жыл бұрын
You can only carry one putter grip with a flat side in competition.

@@Steve-jq4st ye i found that out the hard way when i took it to my local shop to change it and they said its illegal to have 2 grips 😂 on the plus side i now have a spare putter grip I suppose
@kieranpyne3271 Жыл бұрын
It is illegal to have a putter grip on a chipper!

Loft too strong. It’s 8 iron equivalent, meaning it will roll out 5 or 6 times it’s flight. So you’ll still be chipping into the unpredictable fringe muck. Look up Paul Runyon and the Rule of 12, learn how to do it properly. It’s not hard. There are no shortcuts.
@andrewainsworth4972 жыл бұрын
I think the loft will depend on the type of shot you are trying to hit, for shorter range chips where the first bounce is on the green this club for the less skilled chipper will be a great help. Each to their own though, many ways to play the shot. Thanks for the feedback.
@chuckpalmer2842 жыл бұрын
I know many people that use an 8 iron to chip with much success. I guess it depends on the players comfort level.
@seanmawson62862 жыл бұрын
And you are Tiger or Paul Runyon
@448winstead92 жыл бұрын
Rule of 12’s requires a lot more practice- raising the club on the toe, putter grip and shaft vertical. Having used it for years IMHO the chipper may be a better solution with less practice.
@josephdubiel71293 ай бұрын
9 Iron equivalent
@kenphillips75942 жыл бұрын
Mmmmm, my mates with chippers swear by them but use them in very specific situations, close to the fringe with a lot of putting surface between the edge and the hole. In those circumstances they're brilliant but when short sided and more than 2 or 3 metres to run out, these fellows resort to a wedge. Horses for courses?

Hi Ken thanks for the comments. Yes each to their own on this one. Whatever works!
