Thanks Michael ! Most informative. I like them both and now that they are "vintage", I'll likely get both -- just for fun.

I'm debating between these two sets of irons- very helpful review!

If your mid handy cap what iron would you choose . With the higher spin number on the g400 wouldn't be harder to stop on the green ? I'm trying to figure out the best iron for me . I really don't care for distance. I want control and stop ability on the green .

David Crowe I have the g. They don't stop on the green.

Gordon Grayson Thanks Gordon .

Gordon Grayson I disagree they stop fine for me usually a full 7 lands and then rolls out about 1-2 yards maybe you are just playing a course with very hard greens?
@gordongrayson99787 жыл бұрын
Joakim Fredriksson I just don't generate a lot of spin

A lot has do,with the ball you're playing.....Choose a golf ball that has spin characteristics that are friendly around the greens.....Titliest pro v, Callaway chrome soft, Callaway Super Soft, and/or Srixon Zstar will stop quickly on the greens.....Personally, I can stop my old TaylorMade 7 wood on the greens with the Callaway SS, to within 2 feet of the ball mark.....Yes, spin performance characteristics are found in the ball you use.....

I would argue that there is no difference at all look at the two shots closest to each other in swing speed launch and ball speed carry 184 vs 185 same peak angle same decent angle 200 more revs spin with the G i go G all day long

G400 7 iron is 28.5 loft so it should go longer. I don't know why these companies keep lowering the loft and then claim it's all about new technology that makes it go longer. I'm sure it works on most ppl though.

7 iron 30 degrees loft (power spec maybe?)

If you take your appraisal slightly further... If a player is hitting into a green with their 7 iron with 6-7k spin surely the G400 8 iron spin equals or beats your old 7 iron? And has a steeper land angle. No ?
@MichaelNewtonGolf7 жыл бұрын
+Profile Mugshot I would say so
@joakimfredriksson38897 жыл бұрын
Profile Mugshot why are you comparing an 8 with a 7 the G400 is not even close to being one club longer than the G just look at the only shots with similar launch conditions they are basically the same in length but the G have better spin
@MichaelNewtonGolf7 жыл бұрын
Joakim Fredriksson I wasn't comparing a 7 iron to an 8 iron. It was Ping that are claiming the G400 hits the ball further. Think the results show different for me anyway.
@joakimfredriksson38897 жыл бұрын
Michael Newton Golf I was replying to Profile Mugshots post, I know you did not make that comparison, but I think I misunderstood his post as well I guess he was comparing some totally different old 7 iron with a G400 8 and not the G
@peterd54967 жыл бұрын
Joakim Fredriksson The whole basis for Pings release is faster ball speeds and higher trajectories. My 'take' on it is if you can approach a green with a shorter club the loss of spin 'like for like' doesn't matter much, however as you say if there isn't a club difference in distance performance it makes it harder to decide if you gain or not by using the new set. edi tto add.. sorry I was broadening the scope to include 3-4-5-6 year old sets that would have weaker lofts and perhaps shorter flights than the relatively new G :D your right as well lol
@mattknowles66287 жыл бұрын
Won't the 4 yards simply come from the .5 degree stronger loft 🙈😂
@benh5807 жыл бұрын
Matt Knowles 2 degrees actually
@tattude19747 жыл бұрын
Other reviewers have higher spin, higher ball flight and longer lol totally shows how important fittings are

4 yards difference with your 95 mph swing. Can we assume that with an average golfers 70+ swingspeed, then the difference would be virtually nothing... agreed?

I’ve had both, just bought the g400’s recently, I’ve played probably around 4-5 rounds with them so far and imo they are far superior to the original G’s for 3 reasons: The feel: These have a much lighter aerodynamic feel to them compared to the G’s, the "coreye" technology has been substantially improved for feel and the ball just jumps off the face like no other iron I’ve tested, (I’ve tested the 2017 m2’s, Wilson d300’s, Callaway Steelhead XR’s, Cobra f7 one length’s and the Titleist ap1’s) the only iron that has a better feel on strike is the Mizuno JPX 900 hot metals but for some reason I can’t hit those consistently like I can the g400’s. Compression: Much easier to compress the ball with these, may be due to the look at address who knows but compressing these irons is a walk in the park. Distance: Longest irons I’ve ever hit, these make the m2s look like plastic. This is just my opinion of course so don’t pitchfork me.
