Can you hit a loft of 30 degrees farther than a loft of 36, Duh? Pick a loft of a new iron that matches the loft of the Eye2 and stop with the sham of both are 6 irons. Also try the Eye2 in BeCu which is heavier without using tungsten, have grooves that last forever, and check dispersion. The Eye2's were noteworthy for being smooth and accurate. I love them.

he makes the disclaimer that the eye2's will most likely be 40 yards less due to the difference in loft (which he explicitly showed 30 vs 36 degrees). His point was to review many different aspects of performance in addition to distance - forgiveness, feel, hot off the face, etc... He said that the eye2's are exceptional clubs, and also said that the G425's are better and you notice that he didn't emphasize distance...

I bought a set of eye2’s when they first came out. They are still looking like they have 1 season on them & now my grandson is playing them. Having played brands like W-Staff, Calloway, Taylormade, M4: 2 &1, Titleist, even though the E2’s had the weakest lofts they still played with tighter dispersion and could be worked easily with the standard stock shafts of that time. Of course my swing speed has dropped over the decades I still have a speed of 86 mph. I am going back to Ping G425’s after testing,, seeing my 7i going 165yds and tight once again. Well worth the test and $$$$. Great review. Thanks.

Years ago I bought a new set of Ping G2 and after 3 rounds I traded them back in for a new set of Big Bertha 2’s. I been playing them for years and only almost switched over to X2 Hots but couldn’t get myself to spend the money. A few years ago I found a full set of Ping Eye 2 black dots at a thrift store for $12.00 and they’ve been sitting around in my storage till I recently brought them home to sell. I decided to hit a few balls on my property (5 acres) with them and I’m so damn impressed I may have to keep them. The 6,7,9 irons are amazing! I don’t seem to hit them as far as my Callaway set but I’m hitting them straight as an arrow. They just feel great when they strike the ball.

The ping eye 2 is such a great iron set. They were my irons through high school and helped me grow as a golfer. Where I see modern clubs fail is the feel. They don’t give enough feedback on bad hits. The eye 2’s give such good feedback on off center hits. It helped my learn the center of the club face based on feel.

I think you will find the Ping Eye 2 lofts are standard for that era. What we get now are all over the shop ! Also, that Ping Eye 2 you have looks a good bit shorter in length than the 425 which I presume is your "fitted" club

It's notable. They're obviously still a game improvement iron but the dispersion when off centre was significantly down on the Eye-2. The G425's, in all honesty, you couldn't really tell that much. You'd definitely benefit from upgrading to the PING G425's, but as mentioned in the video, the Eye-2's are still great value for money.
@davidscott93416 ай бұрын
The 425 is 26.5 degrees not 30 also is green dot which is more upright than the eye 2 black so if the 425 is your club the eye 2 will play with fade bias effectively delofting it in your hands

Definately a waste of time comparison. Totally agree with Tltindy… someone has obviously had too many pitchers of coolade and has embraced the new norm. This guy and the rest of the BDE syndrome types is what the manufacturers were counting on when they marketed there “new club technology” as longer when all they did is renumber the clubs. Compare like lofts and you’d likely see very little difference in performance. Why Do you think there aren’t 2,3&4 irons much anymore? Maybe they ran out of lofts??? Ya think??? SMH

The number they stamp on the bottom is meaningless. All that matters is the loft. Comparing a 30 degree to a 20 degree isn't a fair comparison. My HC would be the same with either set of these irons. All that matters is knowing how far you hit each club. Everything else is irrelevant.

Different conclusion than you on your test. The ping eye2 seems better than the newer ping taking into account you golf the newer ping, the lofts are far different and the most important thing,,the shafts are different. After the eye2 there really has only been a minor bunch of material and weight shifting. These comparison tests (not being critical of you) are never accurate comparisons. For example the comparisons between persimmon drivers and modern drivers. The shafts are never the same, the weight is never the same, its all a crock. I golf ping zing becu irons and drive with a louisville smart persimmon, graphite shaft and normally out drive everyone. Time for some science in these tests.
