PING G430 vs G730 Irons: Distance, Forgiveness, and Which is RIGHT for YOU?

I have a set of G430 and G730 irons. Both are retro specs with graphite shafts. I prefer the looks and sound of the G430 but the set I use most often are the G730. They are at least a half club longer and in my mind a bit more forgiving. They are loud but I really don’t care about that. I switch clubs occasionally however my tournament irons are always the G730s. I’m 72 and play off a 9 index.

What other iron company compares eith ping G 430 and G730. I am mid 20s. Stiff shaft. Definitely need forgiveness. Play once a week. Thank you. Love your vids.

Thank you! All brands do offer a forgiving iron but it’s always difficult to compare with ping as they really are elite when it comes to this iron! Mizuno JPX925 and Srixon ZX4 definitely worth trying as a comparison. For performance alone in distances etc you’ll enjoy Ai smoke, T350 and Qi too.

I’ve watched several videos on the comparison between the G430 and the G730 and I am going to get fitted next week and the sound of the G730 on both of these videos had the person doing the testing flat out said the sound of the G730 sucks and from what I have heard on the videos I couldn’t agree more. Looking to match my G430 max driver-3 wood and hybrids to the G430 irons if the fitter agrees with the testing that we do. The sound of the G425 driver is the same irritating sound.

Must admit that these types of reviews provide a better insite if the tester is mid to high handicap and not a higher speed elite golfer. Not a club a more accomplished player might use.

Your club speed was up straight away with the 730 having warmed up a bit

So, club speed, spin rate, ball speed, carry and total yardage is higher on the G730. But you don't like the sound, In a studio!!!!!!! lets get it out on the course and tell me the difference matters!!!!! Nope.

Thanks for taking the time to compare these two heads for us. I was really leaning towards the G730 until I watched your video. Based on the data, I think people would be really satisfied with either and their game would get a step-up no matter which one they went with. Overall, I think the 430's might be better for an iron player, while the 730's might feel more at home with a player that prefers more of a hybrid style of feel.

I actually have both sets of irons and trade off using them. For me (9 index senior golfer) the G730 irons go a bit further than my G430 irons. Both sets are retro lofts and both have senior graphite shafts. I think the G730s are maybe 5 yards longer. The G430s feel softer and aren’t as loud as the G730’s. On longer courses I use the 730’s on shorter ones I use the 430’s. I slightly prefer the looks of the 430’s but to be honest my best rounds have been with the 730’s I don’t think you can go wrong with either set.

Thanks for the message. Definitely no intention to be bias, just subjective feedback through my own testing. Can’t dispute the performance but preferred the G430 on feel.

I only started playing in November and the guy I have been having lessons with fitted me. I liked the 430 it was performance better than the titleist equivilant. But then I tried the 730 when it came out and for me it out performance the 430 pretty much everywhere so I guess its horses for courses

Interesting also that when it came to performance (the numbers), the review included look, sound and other subjectivism to support the bias. I would have hoped that a credible review would discuss the difference of the sole depth and shape as well as the type of player or swing that might benefit from either rather than this standard ‘swing monkey’ content. If choosing a club is so subjective, as you suggest, why not leave the biased comments out and let the individuals determine for themselves?

Difference in distance is minimal. Just 10 yards😂😂😂
