Ping i500 Iron Review

Just ordered the i500 today and got fitted with the Nippon Modus 3 Tour105 S-flex. Pure butter. Feeling is awesome and the flight is just amazing. Love the soft feeling of the shaft as well. The final point that made it for me was the consistency - absolutely awesome. Been testing clubs now for about 2 months and taking them to the range and on the course. The i500 kicked out the JPX919forged,P790,P760,V6,AP2,ApexForged,i210 and some more clubs. Amazing stuff PING !!!

James, great review and thanks for showing these off. These irons look and feel pure. Got fitted for them last week! My 7 iron spin rate was 8000 but my clubhead speed averages 95 with my 7 iron. These irons gave me fantastic feel and stopping power at that speed/spin. I went with the Power Spec, and while the lofts are turned down, my launch angles were more ideal and my spin rates dropped to a comfortable level. Compared with the i210, spin rates on average were 400-600 less with the i500. Yes they are going to travel a mile, but I'll have a short iron in my hands inside 160 and I fit my wedges to gap that. So amped and can't wait for them to arrive!

Great vid. Will be collecting mine next week. Not a good enough standard to critique them like you but I tested a few different clubs at my fitting and these felt so much nicer than the others. They flew so high.

I would be interested in a test that compares the "new" i500 to the older i20 or i25 series of irons. Size wise, performance wise, etc. There is so much to do about the new angles en lengths etc. but what is the actual difference between these clubs? Any chance of a test like this one?

Hi James, I know this review was done a while ago but I have some questions. I’ve been playing golf for under 3 years and got to a 15 handicap using my g400 irons. I love ping and their drivers but now think I have outgrown the g400. I’m interested in upgrading to the i500 mainly due to the look and I hit them well at my recent ping retailer. However, I’m worried about the stopping on the green? A year on... are there better irons out there for a similar handicap I should look at? I’m not a TM fan

Hi James. I had a set of g400's that marked up so badly after the first 2 rounds, Took the back, Really fancy these i500's. Just asking how is the finish lasting on the clubs. Are they marking up badly?

I have to say they look great, is it a cavity back that looks like a bladed club James. I don't think that any of the power clubs that all the manufactures are bringing to the market would be for me. My currant set of clubs, I know the distance each one goes and don't want a pitching wedge that goes a hundred and fifty yards. There is most definitely a market for them

What handicap range are these irons for, how is the offset on the clubs?

Ed Mc low to mid handicappers can use anywhere from scratch to an 18 handicap but if your over you might need Game Improvement irons!!

Hey Thomas! To be honest I think I would. However it would be slightly unfair of me as I was given a full set of T-MB to review. And I could tell the I would get decent gapping in the shorter irons. my ping eye 2 7 iron is 36 deg loft, this i500 is lofted 2 degs weaker than my 5 iron (28.5), and 1.5 stronger than my 6 iron (32). My ping eye 2 s are from 1988.

Great looking iron & Ping makes awesome clubs, but why oh why do they put that huge cutout in the hosel... I know why, but it’s just fugly.

Because the head is cast they have to make the hosel that way to be able to fit the lie angle of the club ⛳️👍🏼 thanks for watching mate
