I dont know how the writing went for this album, but"High Maintenence" feels like a 100% BJ Green Day song that he brought along, that had been deemed "not good enough for Nimrod" and so got some Cometbus lyrics and ended up here. Havn't heard this album in nearly 20 years but it really stands out to me now!

The exact opposite. They went into the studio after insomniac for Nimrod and realized they didn’t really have enough songs for a record. So he wrote a few in the studio like Platypus (I hate you) that’s why in the middle where he’s just saying random swear words, he was trying to get songs done. And also Good Riddance was actually originally written to be on Dookie but they didn’t think it fit anywhere on there (they were for sure right on that) and it ended up on nimrod. That have demo versions of it from the Dookie sessions though
