This is some awesome tech, game changing even! I'd like to comment specifically on the belt: I have a Pinion Gearbox on my hardtail MTB with a Gates Carbon belt. I also have a single speed MTB with a Gates belt, and they have both been great. The belts last about 3 times as long as a chain. They are built to automotive standards. However, the fibers are arranged to be strong lengthwise, not necessarily widthwise. So when handling the belts, you need to be somewhat careful with them. Folding them, prying them into place, twisting them while in place, or banging them into rocks can potentially damage or weaken them. Also, in dryer climates they do start to squeak a bit and need to be sprayed with silicone lubricant after about every 50 miles or so. Pouring water on it stops it for a few miles, but the silicone spray really helps. You do not need to clean the belt before spraying it, a dusting of material along with the spray seems to be helpful out here in the desert. Take care of your belt and it will take care of you!

unfortunately, you can't regen motors with the belt tensioned by jockey wheels like that, since you'd need the belt tension to flip sides when braking (pedalling pulls along the top of the chain, but braking is reverse, so bottom pulls). maybe if it was more like a single speed bike frame, tensioned by the whole rear axle screwing in and out...

A few questions : What happens when you run out of battery ? Is it locked in whatever gear you where last in ? Or does it automatically go into a default gear that will still allow you to still use the bike as just a normal one gear bike ? Can you buy spare batterys , gearbox and motor parts on line , or can you buy the whole motor gearbox assembly? Will there be a kit for the general public ? How much will it cost ? I want one ?

I could IMAGINE at least that when the battery level is low enough to cut out motor assistance, there will still be enough juice to do X amount of shifts
@mikldude937610 ай бұрын
@@Draxel Yep , and perhaps some sort of a warning to select an appropriate gear before running out of juice if need be . Cheers .

There’s around 1000 shifts left when the battery hasn’t got enough power for motor 👍

Seriously beautiful bicycle in so many ways.

I won't have money for en e-bike for about a decade, but this makes my heart race. This is a total paradigm shift and I think the big brands can take notes, especially regarding the automatic shifting integration. I'm not sure how I feel about auto shift, but the way they implement it makes so much sense.

That's about how long it took me to get a good bike !

@@guringai I actually bought my very own good bike 2 years ago, so now I'm tapped out again 😂. I love the sport, but it's EXPENSIVE 😜.

If these guys (Pinion) do not bury their heads into their butts (like Shimano and Bosch), and make this serviceable. They could eat the entire market. If this somehow would fit to replace the catastrophic ep8 (I am about to pop in the 3rd one and have no hope it would last 1000km) ... they would sell like hotcakes. ps: I have no idea what hotcakes are ...
@TheAETHER2211 ай бұрын
Or restrict it electronically also qualifies for burying head. Right now only bafang allows unrestricted setting with the Uart

@@TheAETHER22 Well, yes and no. If you want to allow it on the streets (as a bicycle) and bike parks, it has to be a CLASS 1 bike.

Looks amazing! But what's the spring under the bottom bracket, it tensions the belt drive? Seems very prone to rock hits, not?
@mikldude937611 ай бұрын
Matey , that is pretty much out of the way , to hit that with a rock would be a very very extreme case , i guess if it really worried you , you could fabricate a guard for it , but its small potatoes , if you managed to hit that tensioner with a rock , then you are riding in an extremely harsh manner , and deserve a good kick in the bollocks for not having some mechanical sympathy for your bike.
@streddaz11 ай бұрын
It's the same tensioner that on current Pinion bikes and they have pretty much sorted the bugs out of it and I haven't heard of it being prone to damage.
@leedove725511 ай бұрын
@@mikldude9376or harsh terrain. I ride EWS enduro trails daily in the Tweed Valley and the bash guard on my YT Decoy Shimano motor has a lot of marks on it. It may not be an issue but cannot be dismissed as bad riding, just depends on the use case.
