Thank you for posting this video. Sorry for this lengthy comment here, but I wanted to share an experience related to this video and an amazing album. I have lived most of my life in the United States (mostly in Denver, Colorado), but for 8 months in 1990 I had the opportunity to legally live and work in the U.K. Upon arriving in London, I needed a place to live for an extended time and only had to answer a single ad in the classified section of a weekly newspaper to find my new, perfect home - a 10th (top) floor council flat in the Stockwell district of South London. For those unfamiliar, council flats are government provided, low rent public housing, the British equivalent of the "projects" in U.S. cities; Stockwell is a fairly rough part of town (at least it was at the time), one tube stop north of the even rougher Brixton district. Not many Americans choose to live in the rough projects of London, but I stumbled on the perfect place for me, and jumped at the chance to live in and experience the true gritty side of this amazing city, not from a visitor or tourist perspective, but rather alongside the low wage working class British population. But what sealed the deal for me was the view outside of the bedroom window (and the reason I am posting this). Out of my 10th floor window I had an unobstructed view of the Battersea Powerstation, at almost the same height (well, from a distance) and angle that is pictured on the cover of 'Animals', minus the floating pig, although the pig was always there in my mind. "Animals' had long been my favorite Pink Floyd album, if not my favorite album by anyone ever (and it still is...), so I feel so lucky (as a non-UK-citizen) to have been able to wake up every day for 8 months to see the "real life" view that IS the iconic album cover of 'Animals', sans pig. Oh, I forgot to mention that I sub-let the flat from its designated owner, an interior designer who was going to live and work and play in Amsterdam for a year and did not want to lose the rights to his flat... so, although the council building was run-down and kinda scary, the interior of this particular flat was very cool and well designed in black and white, including the black cat who came with the place. A room with a view and an indelible memory (with the BEST soundtrack ever). Thanks for letting me share this experience.

I notice the music is from a recording of a show on the '77 tour. Maybe Oakland, CA. Not sure, but the fidelity is the best I've ever heard. You can hear Nick's ride cymbal really well. Perhaps there's a full show somewhere with better fidelity floating around somewhere out there? Like a pig?

I think you're right it is Oakland 1977. That's the best live recording out there

I saw PF during their tour 1977ish (man I'm getting old). I however saw it at the Milwaukee, WI Stadium show. I saw and heard the Pig blow up and then ran and picked up a huge piece out in the parking lot; no, I did not have tickets. I was 14 years old then. For obvious reasons, I preceded to get rushed (lol; a bit scary) however things remained mostly calm. What happened next? I kept a nice sized piece for myself trading a huge piece for 2 tickets to get in (scalper) and then another smaller piece I traded for some weed!! ~it was an awesome night!!! :D Super sad note: February 1981 (17 years old) I went into the Marine Corp... during that time my mother's basement flooded (nooooooo!!) she took all the soaked items out of the trunk I had stashed there and determined that this piece of pinkish plastic was simply junk and threw it away!!! What!?!?! Oh my god!!!!!!!!!!! My mother hurt me more than she could ever have known!! * Pink Floyd remains and has always been my favorite band; so many great songs!! Here are 2 links (I'm a songwriter/guitarist/singer) I attribute my PF influences to writing these songs): 1) Winter's Mourn = kzbin.info/www/bejne/ppCko5lqa818ZpY 2) Do You Want To? = kzbin.info/www/bejne/j4q7naxngM5jaZI

There is a plant in Pittsburgh, PA USA that looked just like this one, years ago when I looked at its photo and I thought it wss the source of the cover art.

Does anyone know which live version this is? Sounds amazing
@davefink23262 жыл бұрын
It may be '77 Oakland, California USA . Consensus is that's the best live recording available for the tour.

Must have been a trip to have been working nearby and step outside for a smoke and look up to see a giant floating pig above the power station.

Funny - they ended up superimposing the pig and none of this was ever used for the cover.

Very true It's ironic that they go to all that trouble, only for Storm to have to do exactly what you said.

Not quite correct. It was a combo of a pic from this day AND a cloudy day.
@jimo75935 жыл бұрын
Not so....the "sky" is from day 1, the rest is from day 3. Day 2 is when the pig broke free and flew over the British countryside, eventually landing in....you guessed it, a farm. Note the pics on the inner sleeve of the album.

Didn’t they cut the pig free and give a warning to air traffic control??
