Pink Floyd AND Stephane Grappelli, fantastic. I saw Grappelli at a concert in the Opera House St Hellier, Jersey on my birthday in 1977, what a fantastic gig. Happy days.
@miraposajehano43095 жыл бұрын
Most people ignore this but it is the great Stéphane Grappelli that plays the violin on this version. He was recording in another studio close by and the band ask him if he would play on that song. He accepted but the band finally decided for another version of the song.
@harryh.24648 ай бұрын
If they had used this version on the album it wouldn't have been "wish you were here" anymore, it would have been "violin song" by ~ Pink Grappelli Waters definitely did not want to share the spotlight (and royalties ) on what was probably their best song. Grappelli takes it to another level.
@testicuslargus64776 ай бұрын
@harryh.2464 It's always Waters' fault huh?, the reason they didn't use this version is due to the violin being muted. They didn't realize until years later that it's buried really low under the mix.
@alexbowman75825 ай бұрын
Was it also he who played violin on SOYCD? I remember reading an interview where one of the band said they had a small violin part near the beginning but later nearly completely mixed it out so it's just audible.

I have loved this song since it came out when I was a small child. Naturally a song this sad was difficult to hear at times. (For all of us)! As a child - It was about my dad. Divorce blows. As a teenager - It was so romantic! Good old teenage angst. (I'm gonna die! I haven't seen him in 3 days! Is he mad at me)? Age 26 - Why can't we spend more time together? (When we met my husband worked 6 days a week. I only saw him on Sundays for years. But they were damn good Sundays)! Age 54 - My husband passed away in 2019. Just now is the first time I've actually been able to listen to the whole song without having to turn it off. It wasn't easy, but at least now I have my song back again. 🥲 Thank you for the memories... #pinkfloyd😘

To my shame, I heard this version for the first time. I liked it! It has the right to exist, as well as any creation of these great musicians. I love them!!!

Love the emphasis on the strings towards the end of this really good version of an iconic track.

This makes me sad. Rick is gone, Syd is gone... I miss them and I didn't even know them personally...

Great stuff when that Violin kicks in, nice mix (august 2020, alive in the U.S.)

This song fills me with emotions I can’t describe. No other band has moved me as much as Pink Floyd. U2 songs move me also, but they are a distant second.
I LOVE this version. I played the violin, maybe that's why

British bands has technical artistry In creating outstanding music. High quality production value. Very dedicated and passionate. True craftsmen of the trade. So much clarity in their songs. But those days are gone. Hip hop shittified the day it appeared till today.

The great thing about Pink Floyd is you don't have to be from a certain place to understand it. It applies to life at its simplest forms. I've lived in both a congested environment and a rural one, and this song and every Pink Floyd song applies to my life in both locations.

Love this! The violin or fiddle, almost gives the song a ‘Waterboys’ sound
