Just about a week ago I saw a band perform this whole album and when this song came on, they had this group of kids run to the stage and sing. It was so not expected from a band who weren`t even a tribute band(Their words).

Man, i remember when my father gave me this CD, about 10 years ago, and istill have it, it was the thing that made me interested on rock music, i will never forget the first time i heard the solo for this song, it was something magical! brilliant! They should never have ended up, they are too fucking great to get old just like us, mere mortals.

The great Snowy White. Not as good as Gilmour of course, but he certainly is a big part of the Floyd family. Toured with them in 1977 and 1980, before joining Thin Lizzy for a few albums. Has some great solo albums, have toured with Waters since 'The Wall 1990' show and Gilmour appears on a few of his solo albums as a guest. Destinctive sound!

The bass player is Roger Waters, the man who wrote most of the lyrics to The Wall and was the album's main creative force (at least as far as its lyrical/thematic content is concerned). He has more or less stated in the past that this song, along with others on the album, was inspired by past life experience, and reflects his opinion that society indoctrinates and neuters young minds through an authoritarian educational system that is designed to churn out complacent conformists rather than nurture inquisitive thinkers.

I was lucky enought to be in a band that were on the same bill as Floyd on Feb 17th 1967 at the Californian Ballrooms Luton UK. Couple of years later they came out with 'Dark Side of the Moon and I wondered, 'How the hell did they do that?' Well they did! In 1980 I was again lucky to see tham...Free at Earls Court! Awesome!!!

J'ai vu (et entendu) ce concert à Dortmund en février 1981. Comme dit l'ami qui m'accompagnait durant cette aventure : "c'était ma messe" ! On a voyagé en train spécial entre Bâle et Dortmund et ils passaient une version live de "The Wall" dans les hauts parleurs, je vous dis pas l'ambiance. Le concert lui-même était époustouflant ! Le son était incroyable, le visuel était magique ! On a rien manqué car tout le public était assis, places numérotées. Je n'ai plus jamais vécu un concert d'une telle qualité, même si j'ai revu Pink Floyd plus récemment et assisté à des tas d'autres concerts (Yes, Genesis, Supertramp, ..., tous excellents). Alors revoir cela, même avec une qualité d'image pourrie, me fait rêver.

@musicalearth The first solo is Gilmour, the second solo is Snowy White who played backup guitar on several of Pink Floyd's tours. Starting in 1987 the backup guitarist was Tim Renwick (I believe).
