It was 1970,I had just moved to Southern California age 17, doing the tourist thing in Hollywood and there it was…a huge billboard with a spotted cow and the words Pink Floyd. What the hell is a Pink Floyd and what does it have to do with livestock? Fast forward just a few days in a record shop in Pasadena and there was the cow on an album cover. Of course curiosity got the best of me so I bought it blind. I loved it! Fast forward again maybe a year or two to the region of my birth, western NY state, got to see them perform live in Niagara Falls. I’m 70 now. Still appreciate theses guys…

I saw them play this live in Shepton Mallet in 1970 for the first time ever when Roger waters came on stage and said they were gonna play this under the tentative title of The Amazing Pudding! One of the greatest moments of my life. It was about 1 o'clock in the morning and I will remember this forever, til I get dementia or whatever. Thank you Floyd. Btw it is one of the greatest way to bring someone down from a bad trip is to play this album. Us old hippies never die we just slip into the cosmos....

I tried listening to this several times when I was younger. Couldn't do it. Floyd is one of the few groups I could sit through an entire album without flipping through tracks. I've sat through every last one of their albums but I could never bring myself to sit through this one until today when I was working in the garden. Chalk it up to impatience and the ignorance of youth I suppose. Finally starting to appreciate the finer things in life.

Perhaps some of the dislike originates with jealousy from the contribution of Ron Geesin on the title track. The main themes were his creation. I was passionate about this album the first time I heard it, around 1978, a satisfying mix of invention and pastoral.

In 1972, as my brother and I were buying tents to live in at Sears, this was playing on a demo cassette player by the door. Why, I don't know. I guess they were demonstrating the cassette player with a tape they thought they couldn't sell. They were wrong. I immediately fell in love with it so we bought it. I think it was because of the beautiful wailing guitar in "If." Unbelievable guitar work with amazing guitar harmonies! AMAZING. It pulls your heart. It is the true "Transitional" work between the Syd Barrett years and subsequent material. By what I understand Meddle was recorded by the band as they carried forth. This is a very unique sound as many were in those days. Velvet Underground, Lennard Cohen, Emerson Lake and Palmer, the Moody Blues were all very worthy of praise and the music from that period will forever be ingrained in my heart.

I bought this on vinyl as a kid of maybe 12 years old. I was totally into Prog and hard rock/heavy metal. I would relax to this and be taken to another world without drugs being necessary. I do not listen to conventional heavy metal anymore but I listen to and always will listen to progressive rock such as this. This is a timeless masterpiece and one of my favorite Floyd releases. Now I do listen to and enjoy progressive metal. I started with Prog and am going out with prog. This album brings back good memories as a child. They do not make music like this anymore. 1970 was a magical year for music.

This is funny, back in the winter of 1974, my friends and I would crank this on a mono boombox in the pitch dark, with the wailing voices part at night. At the time I was more Dark Side of The Moon and Yes Close to the Edge but these chords progressions are creations of true genius.

Yes history is the past but I still carry those times in my minds eye as I still sketch out ideas pencil to paper in my Jurasic Phuket Thailand looking garden every day of my aging life . Lol ........... Wishing you where here...... Despite my decades of experience as a former journeyman Animator Production Designer / Overseas Director Animation Supervisor for the big Hollywood Studios eventually, 3-D Animation replaced my 2-D Animation business in time forcing me into early retirement against my will. This is my IMDB link for you to see at this link .......... My College Animation Instructor Mr. Jim felt so Sad and Terrible for me hearing my story of how his recommended studio treated me in such a bad way. And then he said these words on the phone that I will never forget. Barry just calls this number and mentions my name." Ask to speak to Bill Kyle and tell him that you graduated from Sheridan College in Classical Animation and this is all that you have to do and say, OK Barry ?" YES SIR was my reply "OK goodbye and good luck " And I quickly dialed the number as next door a song on the radio started to play. I have no idea why this fateful event in my life was playing out this way but the song streaming out of the open next office door on the radio was by the Mamas and Papas entitled "California Dreaming" !!!!!! So when the lady's receptionist voice answered my call these words I will never be forgotten ever that entered my listening ear. "HANNA BARBERA PRODUCTIONS can I help you ?" Yes, I said " I would like to speak with your Director Bill Kyle please " Yes, of course, Barry hold on please, " the receptionist said and I waited and waited and waited " Hello Barry this is Bill Kyle and our receptionist just told me that you graduated from Sheridan College for Classical Animation! And can you work right now for us as an ANIMATOR we need you in the studio right now. I Paused and asked Bill what show I would be Animating on and listened earnestly for his reply.

Yes “Silence in the Studio” at 19:12. Classic! The violin afterwards is eery and beautiful. I love the super mellow strat solo afterwards too. Gilmore uses the slide guitar next. He played some of the best slide guitar. Then comes the beautiful chorus/orchestra singing. If is a beautiful song. So honest. If I go insane please don’t put your wires in my brain. If I were a rope I’d bend. If I were a good man I’d understand the spaces between friends. If I were alone I would cry. If I go insane will you still let me join in with the game.
