Yes, you understood the point of the song! Roger is playing the malicious doctor as described by the lyrics and the movie. The doctor is meant to sound malicious and contriving, and Roger perfectly portrays that, whereas in the earlier takes where David sang the verse, it didn’t sound as good in the storytelling and lore of the album. The chorus is the inner monologue of Pink, which is much clearer and more angelic and pure, partly because of David’s tone, but because David doesn’t actually have to try and augment his voice, where Roger is clearly trying to make his voice sound more malicious.
