Guy Pratt is Roger Waters replacement on bass guitar in this concert. This concert was done in 1994, and Roger left the band in 1985. Guy also sings vocals along with keyboardist Rick Wright (who is Guy's father-in-law and who passed away in 2008)! Of course, the main star is the legendary David Gilmour with main theme vocals and the iconic guitar solo. The spinning device appears to me to be a spinning speaker/amplification system. Roger Waters was suffering from back pain (others may correct me if I'm wrong) before a live concert. He was given a strong pain killer, and despite the affects of the drug, he went on with the show and the crowd didn't notice. That experience was his inspiration to write these lyrics. My enduring memory of seeing this show live, was looking over at my brother shortly after the disco ball made its appearance. He was standing there holding his head together. The song is mind blowing.

Roger Waters did have that experience, in Philly while on tour with the band in 1977. But that’s not what the lyrics mean, as part of the story of “The Wall”, Floyd’s double concept album. “The Wall” is the story of Pink, a fictional young lad who wants to grow up and be a rock star. At this point in his story, Pink is very successful, but also terribly lonely. Unable to escape his life, he turns to drugs to numb his pain. One night before a concert, Pink is found too stoned to perform. The greedy promoter, not wanting to have to give refunds, calls a local doctor to get Pink sober enough to perform. The song lyrics are the conversation between the doctor, trying to assess Pink's condition and what he might have taken, and Pink, trying to answer him as he’s able, before his mind wanders off again. The doc mixes up his best all-purpose sober-up shot, injects it into Pink (“Just a little pin-prick…” *chime*) and pushes him out on stage. David Gilmour is a pre-eminent blues guitarist, who can wring emotion from a rock. His first solo is while Pink is still stoned, and it is pure musical bliss. But his second solo is after Pink has been forced to sober up, and confront the life he hates, on stage. Gilmour pours Pink's aching loneliness, his rage, his self-loathing, his frustration, and his unbearable pain into his second solo. PULSE was actually Floyd’s tour to support what turned out to be their final studio album, “The Division Bell”. I saw it with 65,000 friends, and the concert was even better than it looks. The concert was simply spectacular, the best concert I’ve ever seen and it isn’t even close. Floyd were musical perfectionists, so the sound is immaculate. As for the visuals, well, you’ve seen them. Every song that night was like this. “Sorrow”, with Gilmour’s amazing feedback effects, “Coming Back To Life”, and his ethereal opening solo, “Run Like Hell”, usually the concert finale, with that incredible stage in full-throated roar…… My personal choice for a better idea of what it was like to actually be in that audience is the PULSE version of “One Of These Days”. Oh, and if you’ve ever wanted to react to their masterpiece, “The Dark Side Of The Moon”, on one leg of the tour they performed the entire album (those lucky bastards). So there are live PULSE versions of all those classic songs as well. Pink Floyd brought their own reality, and for three hours that night they let us visit them there.
@triadmadАй бұрын
@@yelnikigwawa1845 Thank you for fleshing out the meaning of the lyrics with regards to The Wall story line. That scene in the movie is rather disturbing. And we were among the poor saps who missed out on the full Dark Side of the Moon performance.

David Gilmour might just be my favorite guitarist (and I love a lot of guitarists!). He has such a singular style; one bend of the strings in his bluesy style and you instantly know it's him. I was fortunate enough to see David Gilmour in concert on his solo tour in 2016 when it came through Chicago. I had just become a Pink Floyd/David Gilmour fan the year before, so it was surreal to hear those songs in a live setting. Pink Floyd's classic era was in the 1970s to the early 1980s. Roger Waters, the band's lyricist and bass player, left the band in 1985. David Gilmour then basically became the band leader, however reluctantly. :) In this Pulse concert from 1994, the three classic Pink Floyd members are: David (lead vocals, lead guitar); the older drummer, Nick Mason (the second drummer is a touring musician); and the gray-haired keyboard player, Richard Wright (who sadly passed away in 2008). All of the other musicians onstage are touring musicians for the show, which represents latter-day Pink Floyd. The song itself is from their classic era (the 'Wall' album from 1979). You mentioned the live version from Pompeii in 2016: That's the tour I saw and it was excellent. David was 70 years old that year and still shredded the solo, although it sounded grittier and bluesier than this version. David Gilmour just released a new solo album, called 'Luck & Strange.' It's been getting rave reviews. One of my favorite songs from it is a song his daughter, Romany, actually sings, while David plays guitar. It's got a beautiful music video and it's called 'Between Two Points'. The song itself is a remake, although I'm not familiar with the original. Anyway, it's a haunting, gorgeous song and I highly recommend you react to the video sometime to see what David Gilmour is up to currently. (He was also just on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon). :)

The spinning thingy's are Leslie speakers. Originally designed for Hammond (electric) organs and keyboards but they work great for guitars too. Both the low frequency and the high frequency speakers rotate. By varying the speed of rotation various (3d) sound effects can be achieved.
@artbagley1406Ай бұрын
PF's performances are always accompanied by lots of visual candy, from strobes, to smoke and explosions, to lasers, and more. Those spinning apparatuses are just another weapon in PF's "anti-sensory" arsenal. Yes, Mr. Gilmour's guitar solo is a prime attraction to this performance; however, I'm mesmerized by the driving, deep-deep bass motif throughout the last half of the song. P.S. -- I detect a certain heartiness in your sound reproduction for your reaction; the fidelity seems stronger than in many other reactors; Great Job!

La différence des solos de David Gilmour c'est qu'il ne cherche pas pression fer mais à transmettre des émotions et à faire chanter sa guitare c'est pourquoi il est l'un des meilleurs

You got on a one-way trip with no return, to fully understand the lyrics you'll have to take the time to watch The Wall, the full movie, and you won't stop watching it, I lost count of how many times I've seen it, and each time you find something new, you can react to any song in this concert, to get out of this concert I recommend In Any Tongue David Gilmour Live in Pompei in 2016 kzbin.info/www/bejne/n4CkdKFtq5KSjKs

1994, yes! But David is in his mid-40s here. Not really his prime, but definitely not lacking in his talent, either!!

Of course, they wouldn't exit without Floyd, Zeppelin, and Rush, but TOOL is today's culmination of what these bsnds started. More TOOL🔧 🌀

This performance, David Gilmour on lead vocal and lead guitar. The doctor vocals are by Richard Wright, lead keyboards, Jon Carin 2nd keyboards, Guy Pratt Bass. Do your self a HUGE favour and check out the entire PULSE concert. It's not without reason that PF are considered the best live performers ever. Apart from a few "specials" PF stopped live shows after Wright's death in 2008, though Gilmour still performs PF numbers live as does drummer Nick Mason still perform

Don't know if it was explained - Roger Waters was sick so he got a shot from the doc so he could make it to & through a concert show . This made him feel like when he was sick as a kid with a fever .

Os it just me or after that blip in the 14th minute is this a different recording if Comfortably Numb and no longer the one from Pulse? I've seen so many reactions to the Pulse version and this one sounds different.

It totally could have been a different recording, if it was I am sorry as I only heard this for the first time here🙏🏼
