Skelter Kaito I love Floyd and I love this album. Been listening to Floyd since my age was still in single digits. But just like the guy above with his comment on how Time is Rock's masterpiece, comments like these kind of annoy me. It tells me y'all don't really know much about music. See to me, I love damn near every Floyd album equally and never do I listen to just one when I put them on. And there's just so much great music out there by amazing artists that to claim a song summarizes the essence of genre is ludicrous. What if I was to say Yes' Gates of Delirium was Rock's masterpiece? Well, it's certainly my favorite epic track of all time but to make statement like that is really not doing justice to all the other stuff I know too. Poor Hendrix, Zeppelin, Rush, Yes, King Crimson, Genesis or my more modern stuff like Tool, A Perfect Circle, Smashing Pumpkins, Coheed and Cambria, I mean the list goes on. Nah, it's best to just appreciate it all for what it does to you instead of comparing it to all the others.
@freshpow215 жыл бұрын
VitoGuido it seems marginally fair to assess his/her statement as exaggerated or hyperbolic. However, it doesn't seem unreasonable to gather that folks commonly use hyperbole simultaneously with a tinge of sincerity to emphasize their opinion on things loved and despised. When you suggested that this person should just appreciate it for what it does for them, you're asking them to do precisely what they've done. That is, appreciating DSOTM exactly as they see fit. For that guy/gal, DSOTM is on another level, not requiring additional, overwrought analysis. Or it could be as I pointed to earlier, they could agree with you to some degree and just wanted to show that LP love. Is this person overly appreciative of the album? Perhaps or perhaps not. In the grand scheme of all things in our lives, music opinion is largely subjective and trivial. Let's allow folks to opine as they wish just as you did. It's more enjoyable that way and we can get back to enjoying the music. Cheers! 🍻

I'll never forget my first listening to this album. I found the record in an attic of an old abandoned house along with hundreds more, original press in mint condition aside from some scuffs around the corners. It wasn't until months later when I bought a record player , hooked it up to an old receiver I got handed down to me. I was only 15 and just recently started smoking weed and learned about all the hype around the album so I toked a few bowls, plugged in my headphones and laid in bed and closed my eyes, feeling like I was floating on clouds drifting with the wind. I feel so blessed to have had this experience aty age cuz most kids born in the mid 90s get all their music online . I got to feel that ritualistic nature of flipping the record , that dusty static from an old vinyl, the pure essence of having a physical copy of music at such high fidelity. This alb never fails to give me the level of emotion it did to me that day. What an absolute work of art

Born in 2002 but do prefer a good stereo or surround setup to a soundbar or smart speaker for music online. I had the original 1973 vinyl and that sounded great on a good hi-fi but the CD versions from 1990 onwards always sounded a bit compressed and "muffled". There's much more to *Quadraphonic System* than *Stereophonic* can offer our ears! Wonderful sound, isn't it? The additional *virtual rear channels* are formed by two channels separated by *+45°* and *-45°* phase shift, which adds to the global sound an incredible realism!...

The best for me was listening to this album on my cousins 8,000 watt stereo in a building he was working out of. The stereo’s name was ‘Smaug’. Smaug featured two speaker stack that stood 7 feet tall. 8 12” subs, 8 10” subs, 6 8” midrange, 4 4” tweeters and 2 super tweeters. It had a couple of AMPs to drive it to 8000 w. A total beast from the 1970’s. You more felt the heart beat in the beginning than you heard it. Side one was just incredible to hear on Smaug. I told my cousin, when he died, Smaug was mine. Well my cousin did die in August 2017. Sadly no one knew where Smaug was. Lost to time. Like so many things in life. Still it was cool to hear Dark Side of the Moon on Smaug once. I think it's alternatively another good way of listening to these GREAT (!...) Pink Floyd tracks. And, moreover, seeing this vinyl record playing on the screen adds some *feeling* to this pleasant act of listening.

This must be a DECCA Recording, German vinyls are the very best. Sounds like if you’re in the recording cabin. Excellent bro. The cartridge and the turntable are awesome. Reminds me my old technics. Enjoy it guys.

Can you imagine a band of today making music of this quality?..... Neither can I.
@circattle Жыл бұрын
Yes, I can. Decent music has always been buried in a heap of shite. When this album was released, people were hell bent on sending Donnie Osmond to the top of the "hit parade"

Alan Parson's mix is 10 times better than the 5.1 mix. You have not heard this album until you've experienced the Parson's quad mix on a good quad system. Not only is the mix better than the stereo mix, but there are also bits and pieces added on the quad mix. ie, the saxophone intro on Us & Them. Money is probably the best quad mixed song ever, in my opinion.

I bought the German Quad pressing in 75 or 76 and used a Shure V15 Type III Cartridge on my TT, through my Marantz Receiver into Koss Pro4AA headphones. Boo Trippin! Magnificent! I became an audio snob that day! Claire helped make it so!

Thank you for sharing this version. It sounds very good! Especially the clarity of the vocals in the mix. Actually, the clarity of everything. I bought a standard-issue vinyl pressing of DSOTM in stereo in the U.S. in my teens, but I can't speak to the quality of its sound since I have not listened to it for decades. When things went digital, I bought the album again on CD, but this time it was the gold-plated disc version mastered by Krieg Wunderlich of Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab, and made by JVC. To my ears, this version also has great sound quality, and it's the only digital version of the album I've known. I understand now this disc is somewhat prized by sound enthusiasts.
