Cool tutorial. I would say that the difficulty in understanding what is actually going on with the guitar parts in this tune has less to do with the song being "old" and more to do with the idea that he had at least 3 or 4 acoustic guitar tracks playing simultaneously. Mostly in open G tuning...though some people say the high E string is really brought down to mimic the neighboring string at "b". The 1970's were a golden age for studio recording. That doesn't mean that things sounded worse. It was actually the best that could be done in an analog sense. The next decade brought music into the digital realm and there are different opinions on whether or not that this has "improved" sound quality. Not trying to preach... just showing why this song is challenging to decipher. Nice work!

I'm 54 and just took up guitar for the first time four months ago. I already suck way less than when I started. My fingers still do their own thing and the harder I concentrate the worse it gets. Practice every day, even if it's only for 20 minutes -- that's my rule. I"ve missed a total of four days since October.

no... that's not true, every time you pick up the guitar you do your brain a service...whether you improve a lot, a tiny, immeasurable bit, unnoticed, maybe even worse than last time...is still better than watching TV or most other things...pick it up.. go ahead. play something, anything that you like...it is only for your experience, don't get down, don't think you have to make progress on somebody else's program...just play music and be happy. Climbing...climb the hill in your own way.

There is a different lesson in open G here on KZbin, but I believe this one sounds more like David Gilmour's guitar playing . Of course David has the advantage of multiple tracks. So, on the album recording you are hearing about 6 different overlaid guitar pieces .

Dude you even have the right guitar. From my research and that of others, Gilmour used a Gibson J 45 on the early Floyd songs.

i just foujnd this :P no idea you did a lesson for it but i liked a lot of your lessons on stone temple pilots hahah love this though. I've seen a lot of people tuning the E up to G for some reason but i like your way of playing it with the bends on the acending part of the intro. Sounds more prominent like on the record, while others play it a lot more subtle which i find not as nice as it's a really nice part of the music.
