It’s been going on for decades, but the feud between Roger Waters and David Gilmour hasn’t slowed down one bit; in fact, the war of words just reached a new brutal milestone, now that family has even joined the fray! What put Another Brick in the Wall between these Pink Floyd icons? How personal did things just become?

Yes two massive egos who produced massive music! One needs to recognize that without ego not much gets accomplished/ Don't hate on David Gilmore for his ego. SOMEONE in the band had to stand up to Waters because if not he would have ran roughshod over the others. The problem with Waters is his attitude which was developed due to his immaturity, selfishness and lack of intelligence. Of course he was a driving force in the band. Which was recognized not disputed. I believe that any doubt about that was in Waters own mind and therefor he had to keep asserting his value and dominance in the band. His fundaMENTAL problem was his (if not failure but intentional refusal) to recognize that ALL members of a band are important and that they should ALL be equally paid and recognized. I also believe that Roger Waters will be remembered as someone who can't get along with his bandmates and destroyed a large part of himself in the process. When I hear the name Roger Waters the only thing that comes to mind is MR. ATTITUDE. When I hear the name David Gilmore what comes to mind is an absolutely dynamic musician and creative and driving force of Pink Floyd whos cohesiveness kept the band together and without him would have disbanded long ago. Every Pink Floyd fan owes a debt of gratitude to David Gilmore!

@@ms8596 Roger's solo albums, especially "Amused to Death," far outstrip anything Dave's fake Floyd put out. (And the critics agree.) Hell, Roger's "What God Wants" suite blows Dave's whole post-Roger catalogue straight out of the water. Roger's re-hash of DSOTM was probably unfortunate, but I never much liked that disk anyway. More importantly, however, Roger has remained true to his vision, whereas Dave has proved himself to be a sellout and an Establishment hack.

@@chicklets4ever51 amused to death is just a redux of The Final Cut, Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking, etc, etc, etc. He even sampled sound effects from prior albums. @@ms8596 All the main reviewers (Rolling Stone, Village Voice, etc.) preferred Roger's albums to Dave's fake Floyd, with some caveats. Just do a little research instead of relying on your rank partisanship. (I don't even like most Floyd production after "Meddle," but I can't stand ignorant internet bots like yourself continually dumping on Roger, who was the main force of the band from the moment Syd was gone, and the only one with any principles.) And if you think Amused is a redux of the Final Cut, etc., you haven't got ears. As for recycling sound effects, that may be so, but those were at least Roger's own sound effects, whereas Dave recycled them and pretended they were his own and even had the gall to call one of his fake Floyd performances "Pulse," recycling a Roger theme that dates way back to the early Floyd, the pulsing bass of "Eugene," etc. Case closed.

There really wasn't anything that strange in the band, many others were far worse. This just keeps going because Waters and Gilmour keep going back and forth. Just can't help themselves. They both can be equally stupid in this although most garbage media like to paint Gilmour as some sort of victim. Even Nick Mason has said that he was upset with how Gilmour lied about how Roger hurt Mason's confidence. Mason said it was complete bs and he didn't like it, but since he wanted to keep playing in Floyd with Gilmour he had to just go along with it. Gilmour lies far too much in his promotion of his Floyd to be looked at as any kind of victim. Only Gilmour shills could disagree.

I'm am a lifelong musician - of no great ability - who is now seventy. Back in the day I was an absolute believer and fan of Floyd from Meddle onwards and also appreciate a lot of what went before that pivotal album - when you're twenty, stoned and tripping even Ummagumma sounds amazing. Dave Gilmour is without doubt a an incredible guitarist and excellent musician. But........ He is not and never was a Songwriter of any note. With the loss of Syd, Waters stepped up and became a truly great songwriter and without that, Floyd would almost certainly have remained little more than a very popular cult band. The four of them TOGETHER made the magic that was Pink Floyd. Over the years I have heard gatherings of very competent musicians do live performances which almost perfectly reproduce the Floyd tracks and albums. But those four people together WROTE those songs and music and that is the very hard part. The world is full of amazing musicians, especially guitarists but they pass by unnoticed except for some local reputation. Without songs to perform to and about there is nothing to lift them to wider attention. Waters always was an outspoken and somewhat abrasive character and I have no difficulty believeing that after the immense success of Dark Side and Wish he became so arrogantly overbearing that he became near impossible to work with. At that point he had come to regard himself as the band leader and main creative force. I do feel that he was fairly justified in that view. Not only was he the writer of the lyrics and core melodies of the songs themselves but he was also the originator of a lot of their presentation ideas etc, The Wall being the most startling example. The random spoken bits on Dark Side are another example of his outside-the-box creativity. As such, he WAS effectively the mainspring of the band. Unfortunately, he lacked the social manipulation skills to make that work and tried to simply enforce it on the basis of it's obvious truth. The other guys and especially Gilmour were far from happy with that situation, especially when confronted with it in the stark way Waters no doubt presented it. ( ...... what do I know ...... I wasn't there. I formed my opinions from their own words in interview videos over the years ) I was utterly appalled at Water's treatment of Rick Wright and equally appalled that the other two allowed that to happen. Asking Wright what he actually contributed and what was his value to the band was shameful and kicking him out was a big mistake.. They soon found out his value when they tried to use substitute keyboard players! As with most keyboard players, he was largely in the backgound but he was the glue which stuck it all togther and made it work in the way that produced the magic. At the very least he created "the atmosphere" within which all the rest could spakle. I'm not surprised that Wright found little to point to and say "I did THIS" as counter argument. But he was nonetheless essential IMO (especially at the very beginning when no-one else had any substantial knowledge about music in the broader sense and he was a trained jazz musician who could guide them and solve musical problems.) So they split. It is very obvious that the majority of the Floyd catalogue i.e. the SONGS that Waters wrote are even now the mainstay that keeps the current Pink Floyd juggernaut rolling. It is equally obvious that Waters on his own still writes great songs, but without the other guys contributions thay rarely reach their full potential. These guys NEED each other to produce the actual Pink Floyd magic. So what we have now is two Cabaret Bands, both performing the same back-catalogue of wonderful music and songs. They are entitled to ...... they did create it all. But only occasionally can either alone produce new material which holds a candle to the combined chemisrty of their heyday. It is sad. I no longer listen to either Floyd or Waters to any great extent.

@@MykeLewisMusic I am sorry but I respectfully disagree. There are countless memorable and great songs that the lyrics are simple or even completely meaningless but it is the music that burns into your brain. Think about almost any Rolling Stones or Deep Purple song. I know you know them in your head right now but the lyrics are certainly not poetry. What about YES? Does anyone have any clue what Jon Anderson was saying in most songs? Alternatively, since the day "The Final Cut" came out [yes, I am that old] I have struggled to listen to it in its' entirety. It seems like is 36 hours long per side. [Not arguing with you or your opinion I am just voicing how I hear the music for discussion sake only. There is no right or wrong in music.].

I don’t agree with either one I believe it is so sad the feuded just denies the world of their excellent music. I love the fact that he donates so much of his money to charities like building homes for the homeless & feeding the homeless. He has done so much to help others I believe that he deserves to make the same amount. It’s a band which means each members donate their time & talent to make the amazing sound of their music. They need each other to make their final sound of music. No one better than the other! Writing is just as important singing, and playing. You can have the ability to write something but if you have a horrible voice no one wants to hear it. Just like if you can’t play an instrument no one going to want to listen. Writing, singing and playing together is what makes up a band & their final sound. You all need each other to have a great product of music. In other words they all need each other.

Now much as I disagree with a lot of Waters actions he was not responsible for the situation at the time regarding Royalties, It was an industry standard that the song writing took the credit , which meant the royalties as well. Gilmour /Wright wrote Echoes at over 20 min , which recieved the same royalty as a 1/2/3 min input on some records by Waters. Now that seems crazy to me that a 20 min song receiving the same as a 2min. All Gilmours /Wright/Parrys solos could be longer than the actual singing and receive nothing. Waters could easily have decided to give them a "credit" on many songs, so ask why he did not ! Your absolutely right about the equality of the inputs , even though it was an industry standard Waters could have ignored it for the sake of unity. The Wall is totally owned by Waters, the others get nothing, yet Davids 2 solos on Comfortably Numb are the highlite of the album. Now did Waters actually write the solos for David to play ? I just cant imagine he did.

The solo section chord progression from "Comfortably Numb" was written by Gilmour during his writing sessions for a solo album. It was an unfinished piece of music he came up with in the studio after finishing the album. It became Comfortably Numb. Check out the demo. It's just Gilmour on guitar. I’m actually sick of hearing about the feud between Gilmour and Waters. When I saw the reunion videos of The Wall performance with Gilmour and Mason rejoining Waters for a special one off performance, I thought the feud was finally over. Unfortunately, that was a short lived sentiment. And, sadly, even though I like Gilmour’s first 2 solo albums some of Waters’ solo material, I still feel the better music they wrote and performed was when they were together. @@liveBasschannel Friend, everyone knows that it was the lsd kicking his schizophrenia into overdrive that lead up to Floyd's leader & visionary being fired. Actually, just never picked up for practice again after too many times just standing on stage in a wordless haze leaving the rest of the band scrambling to somehow finish the set. But the period between Piper & Dark Side of the Moon was spent trying to find & develope their own style without Syd. Gilmour 100% helped carry them & without which, Floyd would've been done, no doubt. But it was Waters who brought them global fame when he almost single handedly wrote Dark Side. He writes on guitar, bass, im sure can doodle around on a keyboard & drums, & writes lyrics, which without, no matter if Gilmour the GOAT guitarist, hardly anyone would know who they are today. Now I also can't imagine being in a democratically ran band for years that came together as brothers to triumph over the tragedy of losing one of our own to drugs & schizophrenia only to have a member write our biggest albums, consequently try & take over & dictate the formula we're expected to use from now on. I'd be gone too, no matter how successful. So i see both sides. Without Gilmour Floyd never would've survived losing Syd. But without Waters writing Dark Side of the Moon, the #2 album of all time, & last I checked still on billboard charts some 50 odd years later they never would've hit the big league & be just another cool band some liked back in day for 5 minutes.

I loved Pink Floyd Music. My music professor saw me wearing my Pink Floyd shirt. He said to me how can you listen to that crap when I introduced you into the classic music. I told him if you really listen to Pink Floyd music it’s an amazing opera of it’s time. Pink Floyd’s has more than four notes Melody being played over and over again. It’s way more than that it was classic music of their time frame. Beethoven and Bach were classics music of their time frame. I hate Beethoven 5th Symphony the reason is my ex-stepfather was bipolar & he played over & over again when he was in his manic phase. Besides being bipolar he was psychotic. He wouldn’t take his medication so it was a roller coaster ride living with him & not a good kind. That why I went to live with my Dad. He went into the mental hospital & wouldn’t take his medicine their either he was paranoid that it make him sterile. They ended up giving him shots of his medication. A wise nurse told my Mom he would never change & she divorced him.

A bit long winded, but your point isn’t missed. Unfortunately, like many classical works, the music is palatable, but not danceable. It’s not relatable. It’s just TOO structured and not enough of a fun way to go. Most simply don’t wish to think about their music. They want to be able to dance. This is where Floyd runs into trouble. Well structured, deep meaning, & strong messages = not appreciably rewarded results. They’re fortunate to get their accolades as it is. Ah, well. “C’est la vie!” 👍
