And the look at 5:14. He is so over it 😆😆 It would have been hard to step into the psychedelic nonsensical playground that was Syd's mind and just take up the mantle of fill-in vocalist/guitarist. Yup, nor was it mine (and a whole lot of PF fans I know). The spacey psychedelia of Barrett is weird, creepy, and kinda boring. The entrance of Dave steered the band away from it into more introspective melodic territories, and combined with Roger's powerful lyricism, social commentaries, and progressive overtures, made up for the massive success of Animals, up to The Wall. From that point on, Rog was unhinged and his lyrics and music had taken over, with their increasingly self-absorbed and self-indulgent whininess that the other members of the band became disenfranchised--until Gilmour rescued and re-styled it to his vision: more melodic, melancholic, with lyrics that are more existentially themed. Which is my fave era of PF!

@bradjohnson5813 жыл бұрын
I agree that Gilmour is a genius, I have learned much from studying how he plays. Pink Floyd would not have been such a musical phenomena without David. However, without Syd Barrett, there would be no Pink Floyd - he was their original main songwriter & frontman (He even came up with the name 'Pink Floyd'). Syd was a genius as well, which all of the band members attest to. It's such a pity that Syd disappeared one day, then came back later to the studio, whacked out of his mind. No one knows for sure what happened, but he probably took one too many psychedelics. Pink Floyd needed both Syd and David - Syd to start it & David to keep it going.
@baberoot19983 жыл бұрын
Agreed. The members of Pink Floyd...fit together just as well as The Beatles, and Led Zeppelin did. One can only imagine, what Led Zeppelin would have been without John Paul Jones,, or The Beatles without Ringo Starr, or Pink Floyd, without David Gilmour. Surely they would have gone on to record epic music...but maybe on not so grand a scale. Chemistry amongst band members, should never be underestimated. I just find it hard to believe...that The Beatles...could have been...'The Beatles', without Ringo. Each member of these bands..seem to be a necessary ingredient for their incredible output. We all are so lucky for them to have all found each other, at the exact...right...time.

Syd Barrett's songs,if it weren't for him, writing practically all of the piper at the gates of dawn, Arnold Layne,See Emily Play, getting them noticed, into the chart's,he came up with the name,the rest of the band owe a great deal to Syd Barrett, that's probably why they did the Wish you were here album,c'mon and shine on you crazy diamond.
@gabrieldomingues63223 жыл бұрын
If Syd was with them they would never came with Dark Side of The Moon, I dont like Syd era at all, just another band trying to sound like The Beatles, i know he was important into later inspiration specially DSoTM, but more like a mental inspiration for lyrics not a big musical influence, thanks god. The only song on Syd era i like is Set the controls for the heart of the sun

I've heard that even at the most bitterly angry times between Waters and the rest of the band in the '90s, they still got together every few years to make sure that the monies were being handled correctly and ESPECIALLY that Barrrett was getting his cut.

Awful? I love this tune . It was different back then, everything didn’t have be quantized and polished, no pitch correction, Everything analogue, I like it better than now. Glad I didn’t grow up in the Times of Jaylo and singers that sound perfect through tech shit. This is the time I started listening to Pink Floyd and the first guitar tune I learned of theirs. Great stuff.

So true my friend. I'm 68, I wouldn't trade the time of the year's I've lived. Even if I were offered to trade my 68, with 20, in today world, by some kind of magic. They'll never get it. They know it all already.

Roger waters loved to create sounds from different objects which lead to floyds unique sounds. He had an argument with Richard Wright because he wanted to get household objects to make exactly the same sounds as instruments. Wright came back with “then why not just use the instruments?”

David Gilmour...is...soooo...damn...young. Lol. They look fantastic. All of them. Amazing to think...within in just a short amount of time...they would go from this, 'psychedelic noodling', to epic and all time great rock concept albums. Pink Floyd did just as much for rock music as The Beatles, The Stones, and Led Zeppelin. They are indeed...the Big Four.

Take the noodling over that overplayed non-stop 24/7/365 dark side blah blah blah. Those overplayed Floyd and Fleetwood Mac songs probably did more to turn people onto AM radio and encourage inventions like Pandora and Spotify where at last one could escape yet another Dark Side or Rumors song. Not even that they were bad tunes, more that the programmers of media stations just couldn’t stop playing the songs long past were able even fans were beyond sick of hearing them. Went on for 30 frikin’ years.

*_"to epic and all time great rock concept albums"_* Waters' conceptual crap was to Pink Floyd what Rudolf Hess conceptual crap was to Germany. In Prog, Pink Floyd isn't in the Big-Four : they're too low skilled on instruments. The Big-4 are King Crimson, Yes, Magma and E.L.P. In rock, you have Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath and Zappa and the Mothers... Pink Floyd was in the Big-4 of Psychedelics with Hendrix, Gong and Grateful Dead before Waters made the Floyd yet another cocaine snorting pop-music band. Beatles were doing pop, so did Abba or the Stones... Abba did better disco than Pink Floyd...
