On 2 July 2005 Pink Floyd performed at the London Live 8 concert with Roger Waters rejoining David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Richard Wright. It was the quartet's first performance together in over 24 years - the band's last show with Waters was at Earls Court in London on 17 June 1981.
Gilmour announced the Live 8 reunion on 12 June 2005:

True. Some bands can be a bit disappointing when they play live later in their careers. But they nailed it here, especially Gilmour who was fantastic, but everyone else too. Even the cash register sounded fresh.

Money was actually recorded using another guitar. The fender only has 21 frets, he needed at least 22 for Money since he does a bend in the solo from the 22nd fret. I think the one he used actually had 24. Compare the original solo to what he does here at 4:31 , he can’t reach that high bend on the black strat.
@BrotherDevious
@BrotherDevious 4 жыл бұрын
@@OddityDK Interesting suggestion. Maybe he just didn't want to bend up to that note at a live gig: "ping!" - not what you want a string to do in front of a live audience of millions :-) Or have you read somewhere he used a different guitar in the studio? To me, the studio solo sounds more like a Tele, but that would have had 21-frets back in the '70s too.

David Gilmour's vocals are fantastic. We hear these tunes as kids, and don't really realize the level of talent we are listening to. We covered this tune in our band, and this is what brought me here. It looks like he still has to think about playing and singing this particular tune. This is not an easy one to just pick up and play. The timing has to be perfect on the vocal. If you you miss one spot you have to start it all over.

Nonetheless though your'e right he did a fine job here and clearly had a crazy amount of fun playing this song!!!!!

I have been a musician for most of my life and I have had my disagreements with other band members but as I get older, I realise that Life is way too short to hold onto anger and angst. I have made peace with those whom I have fought in the past and my life is better and more fulfilled because of it. I don't want to be on my death bed (stage) regretting not having made peace with those who helped shape who I am. Pink Floyd were and still are pure musical genius, regardless of who won't talk with whom.

Mr. Walton, That was one of the most beautiful statements I've ever had the privilege of reading. Thank you so much for putting into words what I've been trying ti drill into the heads of all these fools who insist on playing the "that guy was wrong, My guy is right" game to the peril of truly enjoying great music regardless of who wrote which lyric, who played what instrument, or who stood on which side of a disagreement. Thank you, may God bless you, and PLAY ON! DRL

It's so sad. Looking at Richard Wright, throughout the whole performance you can really see how much he was enjoying this. Don't even have to say anything about Nick Mason, that man is always happy while playing with the guys. Such a shame this was one-off. Glad it did happen though.

Roger and Rick did not get along at all. Rick being willing to work with Roger for charity, like Roger being willing to work with Rick for charity, was gentlemanly. It was the only time they did in a 27-year span.

@Sara Jaleh what do you mean?
@thecontrarian426
@thecontrarian426 5 жыл бұрын
@Sara Jaleh I said the other three, not four, and I am quoting David. After they split you must have noticed that David, Richard, and Nick frequently performed together. Never with Roger. Who do YOU think was the problem? At any rate it it's indisputable that Gilmour was (and still is) the best overall musician. Roger is a showman and a fine one, but he is nothing special as an artist imo.
@MaelstromMephistoPEM
@MaelstromMephistoPEM 5 жыл бұрын
@Sara Jaleh I understand. But in my opinion it was a change for the god. We wouldn't have gotten "Learning To Fly", "What Do You Want From Me", "Coming Back To Life", etc. If they haven't happened. And there is no idea of a "real fan". It changes from person to person
