Living in Burlington, VT the summer it came out, I could hear it unadulterated on a Canadian radio station CHOM, 97.7 in Montreal. Startling, right, making you wonder why we retain the quaint and antiquated rules for public airwaves that we've had for, I would suggest, too long.

@kevinr.3542
@kevinr.3542 5 жыл бұрын
Gabriel Calderon or one could argue they DIDN'T want another the Wall and instead they got a watered down, less impressive, all Waters version of the Wall. There's barely any of Gilmours amazing voice or guitar. There's zero Richard Wright; no funky organ, spaced out synths, perfect high harmonies.. Just more of Roger singing about politics at the top of his vocal range. Like the Wall it lacked many of Floyds staples that many fans grew to love and expect (virtuoso solos, space funk, stoner rock, tight grooves). But unlike the wall, it didn't have an interesting story, or the Gilmour collaborations. It had no cool packaging. Just boring political nonsense which has been present in Waters solo career ever since. (He even found a way to make The Wall a statement on Trump politics). I was obsessed with Pink Floyd, and I bought every album and marvelled at the gems hidden inside. Each one had a different set of characteristics that showed their growth and talent. When I got to the Final Cut (and to a lesser extent the Wall), I could sense it was a different band. I miss the days of WYWH when the whole band was firing on all cylinders. And then even Animals had a certain sound to it that made u realize they were a tight, badass band. But the material dried up so Rogers had to start writing songs like Vera.
@flacidhouse350
@flacidhouse350 5 жыл бұрын
Gilmour's voice is substantially lessor than Waters. Richard Wright is the weak link. The reason the Wall and Final Cut have better keys is because they fired that clown and got a better player. Vera is better than anything in Wish You Were Here. "virtuoso solos" I scoff at you sir.
@kevinr.3542
@kevinr.3542 5 жыл бұрын
Flacid House well I scoff at your definition of what good Floyd truely is. Are u saying Gilmour had the weaker voice? His vocals are smooth as honey! And the way he constructed and played melodic solos on DSOTM, WYWH, Animals, and Comfortably Numb (arguably the best song on the wall) is indeed the contributions of a true virtuoso. Floyd fans had come to expect the long, exploratory solos. And Richard Wright was no slouch. Listen to live versions of Sheep, or Shine On. He added a ton. The boring, session musicians playing grand piano on Nobody's Home can't hold a candle to Richard Wrights contributions. His vocal harmonies, and subtle layering of his synth and keys are a huge part of what people love about Floyd. I'll take a long jammed out version of Echoes, Shine On, Dogs or Sheep (with blistering organs, Spacey synths, atmospheric keys) over Waters and his session musicians any day. I'm a fan of the band and their TRUE collaborations. They all had a lot to offer. The chord progression of Great Gig In The Sky is a true work of art. If you can't refer to that as the work of a virtuoso, than what is? Waters by the way, is by far the least accomplished musician in FLOYD by his own admission. So the fact you can even pretend his writing on Final Cut is superior is the true scoff worthy remark. Obviously it's still cool and better than a lot of crap, but seriously..Not Now John doesn't even rate above the WORST songs on anything recorded between DSOTM and Animals. Seriously even instrumental jams like Any Colour You Like are way better. Because it's a cohesive effort between 4 good musicians. That alone makes it better than Final Cut and anything by boring old, political, Margaret Thatcher obsessed, talk-singing, depressing, WW2 reminiscing Roger Waters. I say that all in good fun, I still love Waters and Floyd. But come on you can't be serious.
@gabrielcalderon5765
@gabrielcalderon5765 5 жыл бұрын
I disagree in that, Roger Waters was the main brain that made possible masterpieces likes DOTM or The Wall. For that reason A momentary lapse of reason from 1987 was not that good, Roger was missing. The solo albums of Roger are good and I like them, but the others three members are missing. For that reason, thet are not that great. The four together are magic and perfection. I still like Roger over David, is a more interesting personality for me. Even The Final Cut, is still a goog quality album today comparing it with the crap music made today with autotune.
@flacidhouse350
@flacidhouse350 5 жыл бұрын
Smooth is not a quality denoting strength. Watch the recording of Darkside of the Moon. Waters runs him through several mediocre solos to get to the good ones. Gilmour is bitching and saying "Isn't that good enough?" The truth about those solos is that they are made by what happens around them. It's the chords and arrangements that make them sound so good. That's why Gilmour's solos never sound as good without Waters. Solos wandering around the blues scale are not exploratory. Wright is a slouch. It's his defining characteristic. Listen to live versions of those songs Water did without Wright. Their better. Nobodies Home is a better keyboard performance than anything Wright ever recorded. If people prefer Wright so Much why is the album he was fired on widely considered their best? You don't know what a virtuoso is. Wright has shoddy technique. Not Now John is Better than anything off animals and just abut every one on Darkside. Waters is by far the most accomplished Musician in Pink Floyd. I scoff at your scoff.

So. I just bought the new Apple earbuds and I’m listening to this with noise reduction on. Filtering out all outside noise. And this song is mind blowing.. I’m hearing things that I haven’t ever heard. It’s amazing

A Fox On The Internet Final Cut= Leftover bricks from The Wall. Still has some hidden gems, but one of the lesser Floyd Albums. It will NEVER be regarded as a classic, but it's part of the band's history.

Ganhei de natal o The Final Cut no ano de lançamento, em 1983. ''Not Now John'' tinha tomado de assalto as FMs naquele ano, me lembro como se fosse joje. Essa música é uma verdadeira paulada nos ouvidos com os vocais do David Gilmour. Bons tempos que não voltam mais.

Isn’t The Final Cut full of songs that originally didn’t make it onto The Wall? This and “Young Lust” are both great rock songs. They’re both so energetic and lively compared to the more somber tunes on their respective albums.

If you heard any song ever...With no words, only instruments playing.... Gilmour's guitar is enough to distinguish it as exclusively him and no one else. For it just has that special uniqueness that sets him apart, and above all others. It's simply poetry in acoustic heaven ✊🏼
