50TH ANNIVERSARY OF PINK FLOYD‘S ‘THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON’. OUT MARCH 24
Announcing the release of Pink Floyd’s ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon’ as a deluxe box set to celebrate 50 years since the release of one of the best-selling albums of all time. Newly remastered, the box set was released on 24th March 2023. Order here: pinkfloyd.lnk....
One of the most iconic and influential albums ever, Pink Floyd’s ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon’ continues to find new audiences globally. The album was partly developed during live performances, and the band premiered an early version of the suite at London’s Rainbow Theatre several months before recording began. ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon’ is the eighth studio album by Pink Floyd, originally released in the US on 1 March and then in the UK on 16th March 1973. The new material was recorded in 1972 and 1973 at EMI Studios (now Abbey Road studios) in London. The iconic sleeve, which depicts a prism spectrum, was designed by Storm Thorgerson of Hipgnosis and drawn by George Hardie. ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon’ has sold over 50 million copies worldwide.
'THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON - LIVE AT WEMBLEY EMPIRE POOL, LONDON, 1974’
Simultaneously, on 24th March, the CD and first ever vinyl issue of Pink Floyd’s ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon - Live At Wembley Empire Pool, London, 1974’ will be released independently. It was originally recorded in November 1974 as part of the band’s winter tour and this is the first time it will be available as a stand-alone album, with artwork featuring an original 1973 line-drawn cover by George Hardie.
ANIMATED VIDEO COMPETITION
The 50th Anniversary release will also be celebrated as Pink Floyd invite a new generation of animators to enter a competition to create music videos for any of the 10 songs on the iconic 1973 album. Pink Floyd has a rich history of collaborating with animators from the beginnings of the band (Ian Emes, Gerald Scarfe etc.), and in some cases the visuals that accompany the songs have become synonymous with the music itself. The 50th Anniversary will be no exception. The band would like to give all animators an opportunity to present a fresh take on these timeless aural works. Animators can enter up to 10 videos, one per song on the album. A winner will be selected from a panel of experts which will include Pink Floyd’s Nick Mason, Aubrey 'Po' Powell (Pink Floyd's creative director) and the BFI (British Film Institute). The deadline for submissions is December 31st 2023. To enter and for more information go to www.pinkfloyd....
PINK FLOYD - THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON: 50TH ANNIVERSARY BOOK
The book Pink Floyd - The Dark Side Of The Moon: 50th Anniversary will also be published separately by Thames & Hudson on March 24, 2023 to coincide with the box set release. Curated by photographer Jill Furmanovsky and art directed by Hipgnosis co-founder Aubrey Powell, this LP-sized volume showcases rare and previously unseen photographs taken during The Dark Side Of The Moon tours of 1972-1975 and was created with the involvement of the band members.
NEW PLANETARIUM ALBUM EXPERIENCE ANNOUNCED
Fifty years on, in recognition of the iconic album and with the help of huge strides in technology, an official full dome experience with stunning visuals of the solar system and beyond and played out to 42 minutes of The Dark Side Of The Moon, will be released in Planetariums around the world in March. Contact your local Planetarium for any screening details.
The show itself will be divided between the 10 tracks off the album, in chronological order, each having a different theme; some futuristically looking forward and some a retro acknowledgment to Pink Floyd’s visual history, all relating to a time and space experience, embracing up to the minute technology that only a Planetarium can offer. It promises to be immersive; an all-encompassing surround sound and visual treat that will transcend reality and take you way beyond the realms of 2D experience.

I had this moment very recently. I’m a huge music nerd, but I’ve always leaned towards metal. A few weeks ago my dad sat me down and we listened to the wall together. I haven’t stopped thinking about it since. I connect deeply with the idea of building a wall around yourself to more or less protect yourself, but in doing so destroying yourself. I felt seen, and the music brought me emotions I can’t quite pinpoint. One of the greatest gifts my father has ever given me.

My kids never had to ask me that they grew up listening to it both of my boys are 41 and 42 the 42 year old just walked by and pointed out i was watching the last concert Gilmore did at pompil also one of the first videos pink floyd did. The sax player wasn't as good as the original one. I think Ive got a bike was the first song i heard with Sid it played on the radio back in the 60s all the time. But Dark side of the moon My older brother brought it home on reel to reel i got to listen to it in my bedroom i was 14 at the time. Deep purple played at arrowhead that year and my brother took me to that concert. I went to many concerts in the 70s but 2 bands i never got to see was Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd. What made Darkside of the moon so good is Money because its timeless like the rest of the album. Money stands out because it puts down society and how things work. We the people should be paid by our worth, not by the business owners idea of how fat his wallet is. Your most important part of a business is your staff. They are who make you money.

The Great Gig in the Sky is an anti-religious pisstake. Don’t let the other person who replied to your beautiful comment get to you. Whatever one’s beliefs (and I know you weren’t promoting any), Pink Floyd at their best resonate with them. That is what great music does. Roger Waters of all people knows the pain of losing a father. I hope your dad is jamming with Richard Wright while I write this. Even if he isn’t, you are. Bless you and your dad.
@raynehell1217
@raynehell1217 Жыл бұрын
@@rachelleonard9994 Waters' was de facto denied a dad, seeing how he died mere months after Roger was born. So his pain is more over what might have been, rather than loss like M Griffin suffered. My Dad (who died an awful death after yrs of decline due to dementia) was virulently anti-religious and atheist, so I guess that fueled my above response (echoing Waters). As Waters had nothing to do with Great Gig I guess I spoke out of turn; sorry

I first heard this album at age 17 in a friend's car. It blew me away, from the opening heartbeat to the final fading outro music and 'see you on the Dark Side Of The Moon' lyric. When I 1st heard this album, 1979, I was stuck! In a good way. My girlfriend n I would stay over each other's house on the weekends n 80% of those weekends we spent listening to this album over n over. Since then, Pink Floyd has been my absolute favorite band, dark side of the moon my favorite album n TIME has 4ever been my favorite song n always will be! If u walked up to someone today, who knew me, n asked them what my favorite band album n song was, they would tell u. I was 16 yrs old back then. I'm now 60 yrs old n still play the hell out of the album...cd😂 . I like ALOT of songs but, like most, after listening to it a few times, learning n understanding the lyrics, it's time to "move on". Another new song is released n so on. But listening to DSOTM, I'm literally in a trance, mesmerized. It takes me to far away places. There's so much meaning n truth to every song. Thank u Pink Floyd! U guys rock!!!! Love u all!!!

It's profoundly beautiful how all of their individual creativity was a perfect fit for their band and the music they made. Sure they've since all done their own solo thing, but for that time in their youth when they could have been or done a million things, these four men came together as Pink Floyd and created some of the most amazing music ever conceived, and nobody else could be swapped in for any of them. What Roger, Dave, Rick and Nick created together was something only the four of them could have done, and we should all be grateful for each of their contributions because they all added into the iconic mix of instruments we're familiar with on one of the greatest albums ever recorded in rock history.

The tunes, the songs, the transition from song to song, the lyrics, the guitar, the drums, you name it, every tunable musical instrument, every line of words written into that album was just absolutely amazing from start to finish. This album shaped the way I listened too and viewed music. Some music is generic while other is sophisticated and while many have lyrics that inspire, others compel the mind to deep thought. Whether sitting in a small dinning room listening to this album for the first time, or sitting on the floor of The Cow Palace in San Francisco experiencing the music live...I am and always will be taking a ride on each chord, each note, each bit of sound effect, each visual accompaniment happening far out of my being. And I find myself riding "The Great Gig in The Sky", and am the moon. There I sit emersed in a universe of perfection still wondering where on this Earth is my own painting of 'Time'.
