The percussionist was having FUN. Man, hes always a blast to watch and hear. I enjoy seeing people proclaim to be metalheads and then do first listen Floyds… I laugh cause its like a new horizon or plane of existence opens.

Just a master-class in lead electric playing. The way Gilmour chooses notes to emphasize the changes is stunning, and he always seems to know when to lean in, and when to hold back.

There's a lot of depth to Pink Floyd's music and depth in their sound as well. I've seen them four times live in three different decades and seen about 100 concert with everyone from ACDC to led Zeppelin and in between alphabetically! Nobody sets up a sound system like Floyd!!!!! They put speakers on the stage behind the audience on both sides of the audience and above the audience! They basically put you inside a giant set of headphones. Then they pipe over 200,000 watts of power through their lighting and sound systems but the secret is they only turn them up a little over halfway for zero distortion!!!! Nobody has ever sounded better live and even with today's unbelievable new speakers still may not sound better!

Missed the concert in Oakland. I had the opportunity but, life got in the way. I believe it was the Pulse concert. There are few things I regret but, this is on the top of my list.

Pink Floyd in concert were about as close to musical perfection as you will ever see.

Listening to Pink Floyd is a spiritual experience. I find the same can be said for other British groups from this era -- Moody Blues, Genesis, Emerson Lake & Palmer, Procol Harum, Jethro Tull, and Supertramp to name but a few. But no group was any more creative with instrumentalization, moods, and effects than Pink Floyd, and their live concerts were the most spectacular of the spectacular.

I will agree with you about the expiritual experience! Also, thank you so much for giving me those bands as a close suggestion to pink floyds!

I got to see that tour in two locations in California San Francisco and Oakland and it was definitely a spiritual experience for me. The number of talented musicians that were on stage blew my mind and they were all needed to play the complex music that Pink Floyd makes.

Those amazing vocals are from Durga McBroom, Rachel Fury and Margaret Taylor. They all three sing like Angels. It would be great if you could react to the"Great Gig in the Sky" from the "Delicate Sound of Thunder" video. There's none better.

Yes, but the incredible Margret Taylor with that 'insane' high note at 11:44 is out of this world.
@davelindstrom60054 ай бұрын
The original Great Gig (studio version)is a better vocal performance. I say this because in the album version there is only one vocalist for the whole song, as opposed to three in the later live performances. That said, I still give MAD props to the ladies on that stage for their vocal prowess!

It seems that way back in late sixties and seventies, bands had more freedom to explore musical adventures. Nowadays, pressure by music industry seems tougher, and concerts and merchandise are the way for many bands to make money, instead of the albums.
@Rassskle4 ай бұрын
In the 60's and 70's the bands had more freedom to explore and experiment......but they rarely got paid. A 15,000 audience at only $20 a head gave a $300,000 take. The usual break up would be about $50,000 to the manager, and maybe only $500 to the whole band...4 to 6 musicians and singer. Most nights, the bands cut was less than the cost of their shirts.
@rmyikzelf56044 ай бұрын
Pink Floyd, somehow, early on in their career, had negotiated unlimited studio time. Plus, they were a band that dared to experiment live. They started out playing long improvised pieces in alternative night clubs in the early/mid 1960's.

The song changes time signatures often, which is why you sensed the "off" beat. A great deal of the "music" of Pink Floyd arose from David Gilmour (guitar) and Richard Wright (keyboards). Richard passed in 2008, but David is still going strong, about to release a new album and here is a pre-release track that you should check out - This man continues to be very gifted musically, and he is 78 years young! kzbin.info/www/bejne/nX7VZnqmeNV-r6M ( David Gilmour - The Piper's Call (Official Music Video) )

"On the Turning Away" _is_ a spiritual song! Whether people recognize this or not, this song is telling you to do what God tells us to do--love our neighbours as ourselves, and to look out for the needy. That any societies should have to be _told_ to do this is simply a shame on our societies. But if we do this God will look out for our own needs when hard times roll around, and they _will_ roll around. Thank you for reacting to my favourite Pink Floyd song! That guitar solo is so beautiful I must have listened to this song 1000 times and never get tired of it. 🎸🎸🎸💖💖💖

That’s funny. David Gilmour doesn’t believe in God. It’s well documented . And … David said this song is about government . This is also another direct statement from an interview . Well documented That’s it . Please don’t make stuff up because you want it to be . Don’t speak for other people , like you spoke for David .

@@michaelforsythe8682 Oh my, another self-righteous and snotty atheist! Will I ever be able to bear his scorn? Look at what I wrote again you God hater. "Whether people recognize this or not, this song is telling you to do what God tells us to do--love our neighbours as ourselves, and to look out for the needy. That any societies should have to be told to do this is simply a shame on our societies." If that makes you want to whine that you are offended, then too bad. Go soak your small minded head. 🤣😂
