Hi all welcome back to another video Dereck Reacts back at it again! This time around we take a look at another Pink Floyd reaction with Speak to Me / Breathe as I start my way from the top of the album "The Dark Side of the Moon." Pink Floyd has David Gilmour this time lead on vocals and wow, its a soothing but important entry to this album , see my reaction now!

About the cover. Something not mentionned. This is the Newton Experiment in Cambridge... And the band members were student at Cambridge... So although not "official", this is a direct reference to Isaac Newton. At least to me :). The original cover of the double album was fold. On the front face you have the classic design you see everywere, while closed, if you flip the album back side, another prism re-composes the rainbow into white light. So the closed cover is an endless "light loop". BUT... When you open it, you "split" the rainbow, and the Green color is showing a heartbeat. Note that the only colour named track on this album is "Any colour you like"... But, on a 1969 More album (also movie soundtrack) they had a track named "Green is the colour"... Not sure if it's a direct reference, BUT for me (again) it is :).

I think the sound you thinking be a piano is a Slide Guitar from David Gilmour.... Se live, from PULSE 1994 Remasterized 2019 (in this concert they played all Dark Side of the Moon in sequence) Or David Gilmour Remember that Night 2006. In this concert he plays the Slide Guitar (not in PULSE)

If you really love the smoothness of David Gilmour's vocals, there's a song they do called 'Fat old Sun' on the album Atom Heart Mother. It's a very strange record but there are a few good songs. They got it on Amazon Prime if have it.

The heart beat not only starts the album but also ends it. There's also a recorded voice right at the end saying "there's no dark side of the Moon really, matter of fact its all dark" However The original recording left off the album went on to say "the only thing that makes it light is the sun" This was left off the album release because at the time they thought it "too upbeat".... personally I think the missing words are a perfect little secret 😉

I never knew that little fact. Thanks. I always thought that last line on the album never really made sense considering the far side receives as much sunlight as the side that faces us. I supposed the "dark side" is supposed to be more of metaphor for aspects of the human phsyce rather than something literal.

I don't mind as you will listen to it "for you". This is the best album in Space Time... You have to try it "on your own" with a complete immersion setup. But having a "preview" of the songs, just to know what it's talking about is great. WHEN you'll do the real experience, you'll enjoy it more.

Ce qu’il faut voir avec cet album, c’est toute la technique derrière les morceaux. La stéréo était présente, ce qui n’était pas le cas à cette époque. Celui qui achetait une chaîne hi-fi, se devait d’avoir the dark side of the moon pour donner toutes les capacités de son engin

Suggestions for pairings of this album...Speak to me/Breathe ..... On the run .....Time / Great Gig in The Sky (hard to pair On the run with anything and Time and Great Gig are really part of the same thought. Money, Us and Them, Any Colour you Like ...those threee songs could be played as individual songs but the finish to the album Brain Damage and Eclipse should be played together.

I think that the best way is to listen to the complete album, it’s pure genius. Great Gig In The Sky is on another level entirely for me, the live version is simply incredible.

you are very correct. you're getting a brief little montage of sounds and things to come in the album right there in the intro. you seem to appreciate great musicianship and instrumentation. boy have you hit the jackpot with this band!! and as you pointed out, the vocals aren't to shabby either. pretty iconic as a matter of fact.

Speak to me (the intro) is an "overture" where all of the themes (and sounds) of the album are briefly introduced. Chopper from "on the run", clockwork from "time", Cash registers from "money" and etc. I think you are mistaking the "Piano" for the "Sliding guitar".

Actually, "speak to me, breathe,on the run" live consecutively is the best to react to. Again the live version is the best to react to.

You shouldn't be listening to a song individually with this album. The album is intended to be listened to in its entirety. It's a musical journey. A real musical experience in which both your ears and what's in between (e.g. your brain) actively participates. Did you ever tried to make live or podcasts for full-album reviews to get around YT limitations ? BTW, may the 4th be with you Dereck.

Do yourself a favour and always have the lyrics drawn up when listening to Pink Floyd. Many reactors have done this album in two parts...side A and then side B with no problem at all.
