I was at this concert and this is the first song of the encore and the only one where the entire audience sang along with the band, may I suggest that you listen to ' Coming Back to Life, Take it Back, One of These Days and Keep Talking ' all from this concert, anything from 'Pulse ' will blow you away .

@@julienmarquet8612 Oh OK......firstly, I didn't say that it was made for any one person. Secondly, I loved Hendrix, (I saw him a number of times) but he and David Gilmour are/were totally different types of guitarist. IN MY OPINION DG is a far more sensitive and expressive guitarist than JH.

Back in September as David was preparing for a short tour, he popped into a pub where his daughter was playing a gig. He sat down in front of 50 or so people and they played this classic song. Imagine being there for this. Search for this and you'll see it....VR 360 - Romany & David Gilmour - Wish You Were Here - Open Mic at the Neptune Inn - Part 4 of 4

Slight correction, SYD never turned into a monster, he had a mental breakdown supposedly caused by his over indulgence in LSD, he turned into a broken man who was a recluse who did nothing but paint and then he would burn the painting when finished. RIP SYD and may you be in a better place now.

@@kennethcurtis6648 ♥️😁we all know he wasn't a monster monster they just use that as a term because he wasn't the same person she was before all the drugs and stuff like that and that's what they said and I think it was either Wikipedia or another site that I usually go to because all this AI crap takes over and make stuff up all the time and I want to make sure that it was all somewhat accurate or close to it instead of just throwing out this stuff willy-nilly but thank you for that I do appreciate you commenting and letting me know as well

Yes, it is very beautiful. David's composition with Roger's words. And that scat David does with the guitar, is how he writes the music. The music comes first with him la la ing along then words come later. And while Roger has said it wasn't about Syd, it is in part and Roger acknowledged this in the reunion concert they did for Live8 when he says "And this is for Syd" as they began playing it. David says he cannot sing it without holding his memories of Syd in mind - they were childhood friends and hitch hiked around Europe together.... But the real lament/tribute to Syd is "Shine On You Crazy Diamond". Either the studio version or the one from PULSE. Syd was not a monster, he became totally disconnected from reality with insanity. An interesting bit of trivia is found in the names of aviation waypoints for standard instrument departures out of Cleveland airport. Aviation airways are defined by GPS waypoints, which have 5 letter names. And there is a PFLYD departure with the waypoints WIISH then YUWER then HEEAR then SYYDD then the transition is called PFLYD. Interesting as Cleveland is the home of the Rock and Roll hall of fame... Here is David speaking about Wish You Were Here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/b3icYnuHh7h-jZY ( David Gilmour Talks About Wish You Were Here ) And this is unrehearsed and impromptu, but David's daughter Romany, who sings on his new album, was doing a few songs at a local pub on their open mic night and along came Dad and they did a duet of Wish You Were Here, not very polished but heartwarming nonetheless: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y5u8fqWXj8-Dfqc ( VR 360 - Romany & David Gilmour - Wish You Were Here - Open Mic at the Neptune Inn - Part 4 of 4 )

DSOTM release in 1973, Wish You Were Here was 1975, Syd had mental problems along with doing to much acid and the band just quit picking him up for gigs early on. "Shine on " from this album is solely about Syd "Wish you" is also about Syd. "Twilight Zone" moment was while recording at Abbey Road Studio a bald fat man walk in to the studio. It was Syd ( who they haven't seen in yrs ) nobody recognized him ans actually cried.

Wish you were here was released in 1975. Dark Side of the Moon was released in 1973. Also Syd Barrett didn't turn into a monster he more or less turned into somebody who just wasn't there. Too much acid brought on an underlying mental issue possibly schizophrenia and he just kind of switched off such as the lights were on but nobody's home!!

High hopes let’s not forget that one lol… Actually in this concert, they did three encore songs. The first one was wish you were here which led too comfortably numb and after that, it was run like hell that closed out the show.

If you want true beauty in a song and another unbelievably amazing guitar solo do the song High Hopes from the same concert!! David Gilmour shows off more of his genius and playing the guitar plus they play a few more new instruments that most bands don't utilize!!

The song is very wistful. The words are all Roger Waters and carry a double meaning (at the least). They have a general application that dovetails very well with their other albums particularly "The Wall". But the lyrics also point to former band mate Syd Barrett. The first guitar player is Tim Renwick who is from the same home town as Syd Barrett, Roger Waters and David Gilmour. The song opens as an AM radio channel is searching for a suitable station that then settlies on a single acoustic guitar that represents Syd. David then joins in. As the rest of the band comes in Syd's guitar fades out - at least on the album. In their pre Pink Floyd days, David and Syd busked around France one summer. Years later David came into the band and effectively replaced Syd. Soon after Syd checked out of life and became a recluse back in Cambridge. Hardly a monster, really a sad character.

Syd Barrett was the band's front man and lead guitarist, and provided the musical direction for their first three albums. But he suffered from schizophrenia, made worse by his increasing use of LSD. He would sometimes play the wrong song on stage, or sometimes just walk to the edge of the stage and stop playing. The band were all good friends, but this was unacceptable. They asked another good friend, David Gilmour, to sit in on their live shows, to back Syd up, and cover for him when necessary. But Syd got worse and worse, until one night, on the way to a gig, the band……just didn’t swing by to pick him up. Gilmour became their de facto lead singer and guitarist, and the rest is history. Being forced to watch the slow disintegration of their friend hammered the band emotionally, and themes of loneliness, mental health, and alienation from society were present in their music from then on. The title of their masterpiece album, “The Dark Side Of The Moon” is a reference to madness. The Dark Side song “Brain Damage” contains the line “And if the band you’re in starts playing different tunes, I’ll see you on the dark side of the moon”; it’s a direct reference to Syd. Also on their “Wish You Were Here” album, there’s a beautiful nine-part piece about Syd called “Shine On You Crazy Diamond”. Sadly, Syd disappeared off the face of the earth after being fired; even his own mother didn’t know if he was alive or dead. Years later, while the band was in the studio mixing down “Wish You Were Here”, a strange man with a shaved head and no eyebrows, and carrying a bag, wandered into the studio. The band assumed he worked for the recording studio, until one band member recognized him as Syd. Bassist and lyricist Roger Waters reportedly wept when told who he was. Syd spent a few hours hanging out with the band, and then disappeared again. A very sad story. FYI, the guitarist playing the opening 12-string on this tour is Tim Renwick; you can hear him on several 70’s and 80’s Elton John records. On the studio version of this song, the song ends with guitar slowly fading into the wind, because (again, IMHO) at that time Syd was also “in the wind”. (I wore glasses all my life, until recently when I got cataract surgery and new eye lenses. Now I can see most things well, but need glasses to read EVERYTHING! I hate it. Ah feel yore payne…)
