One of the most iconic and influential albums ever, Pink Floyd’s ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon’ continues to find new audiences globally. The album was partly developed during live performances, and the band premiered an early version of the suite at London’s Rainbow Theatre several months before recording began. ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon’ is the eighth studio album by Pink Floyd, originally released in the US on 1 March and then in the UK on 16th March 1973. The new material was recorded in 1972 and 1973 at EMI Studios (now Abbey Road studios) in London. The iconic sleeve, which depicts a prism spectrum, was designed by Storm Thorgerson of Hipgnosis and drawn by George Hardie. ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon’ has sold over 50 million copies worldwide.

Simultaneously, on 24th March, the CD and first ever vinyl issue of Pink Floyd’s ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon - Live At Wembley Empire Pool, London, 1974’ will be released independently. It was originally recorded in November 1974 as part of the band’s winter tour and this is the first time it will be available as a stand-alone album, with artwork featuring an original 1973 line-drawn cover by George Hardie.
*ANIMATED VIDEO COMPETITION*
The 50th Anniversary release will also be celebrated as Pink Floyd invite a new generation of animators to enter a competition to create music videos for any of the 10 songs on the iconic 1973 album. Pink Floyd has a rich history of collaborating with animators from the beginnings of the band (Ian Emes, Gerald Scarfe etc.), and in some cases the visuals that accompany the songs have become synonymous with the music itself. The 50th Anniversary will be no exception. The band would like to give all animators an opportunity to present a fresh take on these timeless aural works. Animators can enter up to 10 videos, one per song on the album. A winner will be selected from a panel of experts which will include Pink Floyd’s Nick Mason, Aubrey 'Po' Powell (Pink Floyd's creative director) and the BFI (British Film Institute). Fifty years on, in recognition of the iconic album and with the help of huge strides in technology, an official full dome experience with stunning visuals of the solar system and beyond and played out to 42 minutes of The Dark Side Of The Moon, will be released in Planetariums around the world in March. The show itself will be divided between the 10 tracks off the album, in chronological order, each having a different theme; some futuristically looking forward and some a retro acknowledgment to Pink Floyd’s visual history, all relating to a time and space experience, embracing up to the minute technology that only a Planetarium can offer. It promises to be immersive; an all-encompassing surround sound and visual treat that will transcend reality and take you way beyond the realms of 2D experience.

And this is coming from someone who considers Dark Side of the Moon one of the best albums of all time. The Immersion box set in 2011 was a better package IMHO. I'm glad I could get my faulty blu-ray replaced.

I will second the criticism in the comments, this box should've had all what the Immersion box had, including the vinyl, and more than anything else: a new remix treatment as the latest ones like Animals. I suppose a vinyl solo release will come out, but it will be just the remaster and probably the same James Guthrie one I already have so it doesn't entice me to buy it again just for a fancy sticker.

Apart from the Dolby Atmos mix, there is hardly any difference to the Immersion Box. The live concert also only contains the pieces from Dark Site of The Moon, but not the encores played at that time. Another rip off, enough people will buy it anyway.

Yes, you are right. But the main fault here lies with Gilmour. Because he is completely unreasonable in his position. He turned out to be completely unaware of what is really happening in Ukraine and who really stubbornly provoked this conflict since 2014. Even Mason said in September that he no longer wants to fight Russia. It's obvious that David just dragged Nick into recording this embarrassing April single.

Among the over a dozen versions of this I have including the last 3 anniversary editions and the immersion box is an old import quadraphonic version, haven't pla it for such a long time and only ever played it on a decent normal stereo but i remember it sounding vastly different to any other version.... Bit disappointing there's no more film discovered than already available and they could have put more live stuff on it similar to the King crimson Road to red box set with 12 or so shows leading up to the studio album.... And the price!!!

It's so hard to believe that the album is 50 years old! I was 13 when it was released. It really stood the test of time and nobody can get bored of it.Every song moves into the next one and the soundscapes are really freaky and they're highly listenable! The last song Great Gig In The Sky was sung by a British girl named Claire Tory. Everyone thought it was a black girl singer but it wasn't ! Allan Parsons brought her in the studio and she did it in one take only!🇨🇦🎸🍁

You can get the live album on its own. The vinyl version is edited so that it fits onto the LP - both "Money" and "Any Colour You Like" aren't as long on the LP as on the CD.

Crazy price for everything we have already seen and heard, the same Immersion box was much more interesting and three times cheaper. Such a wasted opportunity, nothing to add or complain about the music which is for me the best album of all time. As an avid PF fan I do buy most of the releases but this compared to the Immersion box set I already own. Why not do a special audiophile press with demos or early takes of the songs just like the beatles revolver set. 2 dvd? Are we in 2001? The 7 inches same songs as the one on the record. Why don't put demos or b sides. I really dont get who is deciding this content. I guess Mr Mason needs some cash to get the new limited edition Ferrari. Very disappointed
