This and Grantchester Meadows are my favorite songs on the studio side. These songs are so meaningful to me Grantchester Meadows reminds me of my grandparents place and the Narrow Way Reminds of a nice summer day relaxing in a field under an oak tree

Following the path As it leads towards the darkness in the North Weary strangers' faces show their sympathy They've seen that hope before And if you want to stay for a little bit Rest your aching limbs for a little bit Before you the night is beckoning And you know you can't delay You hear the night birds calling you But you can't catch the words they say Close your ears and eyes be on your way Mist is swirling creatures crawling Hear the roar get louder in your ears You know the folly was your own But the force behind can't conquer all your fears And if you want to stay for a little bit Rest your aching limbs for a little bit Before you the night is beckoning And you know you can't delay You hear the night birds calling you But you can't catch the words they say Close your ears and eyes be on your way Throw your thoughts back many years To the time when there was life with every morning Perhaps a day will come When the lights will be as clear as on that morning And if you want to stay for a little bit Rest your aching limbs for a little bit Before you the night is beckoning And you know you can't delay You hear the night birds calling you But you can't catch the words they say Close your ears and eyes be on your way

Part 2 and 3 are the best experience I had on LSD ever.

I had this experience just the other day in headphones. Don't think I've ever heard on headphones before and it seemed like it was mixed with that in mind... or maybe I was just tripping. Side story; the first time I heard this album was my first time using mushrooms. Tis the soundtrack to my psychedelic lifestyle.

Needed a change up from art. Started playing acoustic. Learning all my favorite Floyd/Gilmour acoustic jams from my early teens as a little tripper. Pt.1 and 3 are nice

that's actually a very valid opinion, i think gilmour's probably the most creative member of pink floyd, and that's not that hot of a take

David Gilmour says he regrets writing "The Narrow Way". No need for him to do that; it's classic, vintage Floyd. Like all of "Ummagumma"
@claudebuysse7482 Жыл бұрын
He was not at ease with psychedelia sounds . He prefers blues. I disagree because he was so inventive . He had problems with lyrics too and Waters does not want to help him...

He shouldn't regret writing the Narrow Way. It's the point of attention the eye of the needle the keep the mind focused on the straight and narrow in tune with life to avoid a nervous breakdown.

Could this have been influenced by the dark night of the soul? Starts strange like a party out of bounds on L and ends in that arms of God thank you for saving me I'll never touch the stuff again blossoming of Warmth and light. Thank you for posting,haven't heard this in years.

David is so talented😍he wrote played all the instruments and the production is his as well... Só every member of the band did the same for ummagumma... David was the ONLY One thoug who came up with a "multi instrumental" tune being That the part 3... Drums bass overdubbed guitars synthetisers and organ and of course his beutifull voice... Grantchester meadows is the ONLY tune near this and a great One also but ONLY on guitars and voice... Davids playing on all the instruments is só effective That we almost could think That all the band is playing on this... No its just David

Ummagumma at the time seemed like the first existential crisis that Pink Floyd experienced after the departure of Roger Rabbit. That they survived as long as they did, and as well as they did, seems incredible now. Still amazing. Slán.

it reminds me of that musician friend, also an esteemed man who told me after ingesting three balloon glasses of Gigondas that he very much believed in arrogance, hated the idea of submission, humility and that if we had to endure a form of coercion or dictatorship, he would always prefer it to be exercised by the crowd than by the musical or social elite. We can negotiate with the masses because Musical elite is too arrogant.. Otherwise this sonorous piece by Gilmour is enticing 👏

I would always imitate these drum fills and say how 'Nick influenced my playing' Then 40 years later I see it's all Dave Gilmour on all instruments. (but Mason has still also been an incredible influence e.g. Great Gig)
@Poseiden2 Жыл бұрын
David Gilmour's never been fond of his lyrical abilities or this 3-part song, but I think it's underrated and one of the highlights of this album: you can even hear hints of Echoes in Part 2! It's interesting how much the band changed from the democracy of this album taken to extremes - Roger Waters refused to help him with the words to this - to the increasingly Roger-run era of Animals, The Wall & The Final Cut.

After the manner of what could be called music/written expression simultaneity, this music, very Dionysian, is extremely much like The Three Steles of Seth, Gnostic! Seth, the son of Ask (Ger-Adamas) and Embla, not of the middle-eastern amber caucasian but the nordic white, was a Mahavatar,; such can be thought of as Saviours. which the Gnostics appreciated. Dionysos was a Redeemer. The "Creature From The Black Lagoon" section in the music seems to evoke the appearance of Samael Yaldabaoth, an evil one who tempted and persuaded Three of the Five avatar couples to go against instruction, partake of the potent aphrodisiac herb and reproduce; their descendants were called Children Of The Serpent- this did not happen in this Reality, but in a Parallel Reality. They were obedient here, and so these forbidden, evil race lines didn't appear. As for Mani, or Manichaios, the music is more Sethian. Florentine School- there is relatedness, with this term as well... There actually isn't a god, Christ, in hierarchy anymore, anyplace, neither Barbhelon, the Maha-Devi who incarnated as the Christ Avatar's mother...
