@MikeB128002 жыл бұрын
@D G yeah I know, but out of respect I think they should have used a different name. The Doors did it out of respect to Morrison. Creedence went to court and lost cuz Fogerty wrote all their songs. They all contributed to Floyd, and I don’t think Waters should tour under Pink Floyd. Pink Floyd was Waters, Gilmour, Mason, and Wright! I wouldn’t include Syd because they really developed their sound after him.

@D G Yeah, well that's not exactly true. The others have largely kept quiet, but Waters never stops yakking off about what cnts he thinks they are. One of the greatest songs ever, it should be a video for every single reactor on the internet. Few other songs have such a profound effect on everyone who hears it for the first time. I was about to graduate from high school when it came out, we had a listening party for Dark Side of the Moon and you could hear a pin drop as soon at it began. We were stunned and euphoric by the time it was over and it was the main topic at school for weeks afterward. That album was on the Billboard charts for 14 straight years and for good reason, you can argue it is the best album ever made, it is at least in the conversation. Time still gives me chills, I saw it live several times and it was always amazing with other worldly performances. These guys are not of this earth and always take you away to their, alternate, musical reality that only they can create. For more Pink Floyd wonder, try Comfortably Numb, you should hear the studio version first, it's an utter classic but afterward do check out the Live version at their Pulse Concert in1994, it is the definitive version with perhaps David Gilmour's most famous guitar solo and one of their very best light shows and special effects surprises to go with it. Thanks for trying Pink Floyd, they are a very deep rabbit hole but also one with much wonder and many musical surprises. Enjoy! 🎵

Great reaction and great read on the song. Nick Mason, the drummer, really sets the tone on this piece (he's a bit underrated as drummers go, and he even says he doesn't think he's all that great--but he's a solid drummer who, along with Roger Waters on the bass, sets the backbone for the band's music). David Gilmour is one of the guitar greats, but he's really underrated as a vocalist (the softer voice on this song is Richard Wright, the keyboardist). A lot are rightly suggesting "Comfortably Numb" (studio or live are great), although I'd also suggest the song that comes right after "Time" on The Dark Side of the Moon: "The Great Gig in the Sky." There's a lot of great music by Pink Floyd, and the rabbit hole is worth going down. Their songs tend to be deceptively simple sounding on the surface, but, as you pointed out in your observations, there's a lot going in--musically and lyrically. Thank you for getting to Pink Floyd. This fan appreciates it (and the work you do as a reactor)!

Thanks Angela! First time landing on your channel and now sub'd... Enjoyed your reactionalisys and simply dropping a Floyd track will bring a flood of their fans, with all kinds of advice, guidance and suggestions. There are MANY great tracks by this world class band. And every track has it's share of fans... but one universal truth they all agree on... COMFORTABLY NUMB performed at Earl's Court during the Division Bell Tour in 94 and captured on the P-U-L-S-E DVD is one of, if not the best, Floyd experiences ever recorded. IMO, it should have been the closer, but what do I know? The visual production, the sound recording and engineering, and the performance are stuff of legends.... again, my opinion, but much like the album, DARK SIDE OF THE MOON, the complete packaging of the P-U-L-S-E DVD was years ahead of it's time and definitely stands the test of time.

Yes, the lyrics of this song (and really the whole _Dark Side of the Moon_ album) are deeply and universally meaningful, and the music itself is peerless and sublime. But the lyrics of the song _Breathe,_ which comes before _Time_ and which the last part of _Time,_ labeled _Breathe Reprise,_ is reprising, are directly relevant to the lyrics of _Time:_ Breathe, breathe in the air Don't be afraid to care Leave but don't leave me Look around and choose your own ground [Chorus] For long you live and high you fly And smiles you'll give and tears you'll cry And all you touch and all you see Is all your life will ever be [Verse 2] Run, rabbit, run Dig that hole, forget the sun And when at last the work is done Don't sit down, it's time to dig another one [Chorus] For long you live and high you fly But only if you ride the tide And balanced on the biggest wave You race towards an early grave My suggestion for the next Pink Floyd song to react to is _Comfortably Numb,_ which is from the Wall album, and which features perhaps David Gilmour's best guitar solo. If the solo in _Time_ impressed you, you'll be floored by the TWO even more powerful solos in _Comfortably Numb._
@MikeB128002 жыл бұрын
“No one told you WHEN to run” not “where” to. I hate when lyric videos mess up the lyrics! They have one job to do!!! And yet they get Breathe Reprise right, the ending of the song is actually a continuation from an earlier song on the album.

I'm amazed at all the "Dark Side of the Moon" t-shirts I see teenagers wearing. Kind of cool that so many people keep discovering Pink Floyd to this very day.
@smallblockchevy10222 жыл бұрын
I kind of think it's cool too, but I honestly think that probably 90% of the people you see wearing them don't even know who Pink Floyd is. I think it's just trendy for a lot of kids. You see the same thing with AC/DC shirts as well, among some select others. There are a minute number of kids who actually like these bands, a small handfull of them who vaguely know the bands but pretend to know them better to be cool like the minute number of kids who really do like them. And then finally there are the majority of them who are like I described, who know nothing about the bands, and only wear the shirts to be like the few who actually do. Of course I could be wrong, but I strongly believe this is the actuality of the situation.

This song is from the album, Dark Side of the Moon (DSM), one of the greatest rock operas ever made. Rock operas were fairly common in the late 60s, early 70s. It's takes xtra songwriting effort to put one together. That is probably why they don't exist after the early 70s to my knowledge. The opening instrumental track of DSM previews sound appearing throughout the rock opera and each track flows into the next track seamlessly. Only break is after the last song on side 1 (Great Gig in Sky) and first song on side 2 (Money). This break was necessary because the original vinyl had to be flipped on the turntable back in the day. Along with The Who's Quadrophenia (a double album masterpiece), DSM is my favorite rock opera.

I called him…“The Master Of The Stratocaster” He smiled. I told him his music will stand the test of time with anything from Beethoven or Mozart. He smiled even bigger. I asked if I could shake both his hands that make such great guitar solos, he smiled bigger and said “Sure” and shook both hands at the same time, making a cross between us, I smiled HUGE. I asked him to describe his technique of playing guitar, he replied… “I strike a note, bend it, shake it and then release it”…. Yes, he does that quite well, better than any other guitarist I know.

You certainly caught the gist of the song that time never stops and before you know it it's gone by. But I also like to point out that I believe there was another message that Pink Floyd was trying to convey, and that is that it's NEVER TOO LATE to start living your life! You can be 20 or 40 or 75 and you can still enjoy your life and embrace it as much as you can. So yes, time rushes by whether you are ready to live life or not, but you can ALWAYS start!

For those of us still breathing air beware the "Time" and find a way to cherish each and every day!

Young lady, first of all I am 62, I love your channel. You have a lifetime of discovery ahead. I was 12 when Dark Side was released. I was already a fan. From start to finish this album will change your life. So, sit back, relax and let this wave wash over you. I look forward to more of your posts and reactions.

You really should react to their song "Great Gig in the Sky" from the same album! It will take you to another dimension, trust me!

This song never motivated me. I was there in 1973. I was sprawled across a bean bag chair completely spaced out.

Me too, and I wasn't even stoned, it was just the music.
