This is Pink Floyd at their most experimental period. However, this is usually considered one of their weakest efforts. As you probably know, this is more a solo album than a group composition. Each member was given half a side of the LP to his own music. Richard Wright contributed with is classical inspired «Sysyphus», Roger Waters with one pastoral track («Grantchester Meadows») and the bizarre «Several Species...». David Gilmour did the more country-rock oriented «The Narrow Way» and Nick Mason closed the album with the experimental percussion «The Grand Vizier's Garden Party». Maybe the biggest merit of this album is showing how Pink Floyd are far better than the sum of its parts.

Have rarely listened to this, I have it on Albumn and on CD 💿 But of all my 38 Pink Floyd , probably least listened 🎶 🙄 My Favorite is The Wall, and Meddle and oh hard to choose...😂

Obviously not an accessible album at all and perhaps too experimental. When I first listened through it I thought it was scary and horrible, the second time I was laughing and having fun because I said this is hilariously bad. Third time listening I think this is not bad at all, perhaps an underappreciated gem in their catalog (even if it has Several Species, it's a great crossover seeing Roger and Alvin and the Chipmunks doing a rap battle and a historic event that will never happen again so gotta respect that). Sure you need to have a really specific and weird taste, but if you like stuff like this you're in for a wild ride! I used to hate it, now I really like it; So I'm trying to say that if your first impressions on this album are not great I do recommend giving it a chance again later, but honestly you need to be prepared for this weirdness by listening to the first 2 (3 technically if you count More) albums before this one. Imo PF have no bad albums, they just have some unsung masterpieces!

god i hate this thing so much but i have to listen to it so i can say ive heard all of the albums all the way through. literally put this off for 2 years bc i hated several species edit: yeah this album makes me long for the whale part in echoes, sysphus pt 3 is so fucking bad i cant even edit pt 2: it gets worse
