I will NEVER be able to figure out KZbin - I have seen other people react to this with the video - it seems so random when one channel gets blocked and others don't. I feel bad for those who do get blocked

Pompeii... Everything exists! In 79 AD It was completely buried by pyroclastic flows and ash from the volcano. So it has been incredibly well preserved exactly as it was on the one terrible day.

It was the directors idea to ask Pink Floyd to do a concert in an ancient excavated Roman amphitheater with no audience. The sculptures and all are from the parts of the city which had been excavated by archeologists. The crew had run a cable to the venue from the now partly inhabited town but it didn't have enough capacity so another couple days were wasted running a larger cable. It resulted in little time to film. That's why the band had to do some finish up playing in a studio later.

Pink Floyd didn't have a "front man" like other bands. So they would almost hide behind lights and keep themselves in the shadows. So really, getting to see them at all at this time in their career was pretty amazing.

I like when bands had multiple singers - made for more variety - some were mostly dominated by one singer like Supertramp, while Styx had a bit more balance, and then there's the Eagles where everyone could sing

Roger Waters is the bass player. He is also the primary lyricist. Left the band in '84.

Adrian mabon is the director for the movie Pink Floyd live in Pompeii. He came up with the idea when he forgot his passport at Pompeii at the arena and had to go back and get it. He came back to the arena and found his passport and got the idea like one of those light bulbs going off of doing a concert in the theater with the Pink Floyd guys. The reason there is nobody in the audience is because the idea that Adrian maybin pitched to the Floyd guys was the total absence of people completely opposite of giant concerts like Woodstock!

I also wondered about electricity. Generators would have made too much noise and would be heard in the recordings. I read years ago that Pink Floyd had special permission to arrange power cables from a power source not too far from the amphitheater.

It was a long way from the ampitheatre. They joined a truck load of extension leads together and tapped into the closest farm house......over half a kilometre away, but probably longer.

Nel 2016 solo DAVID GILMOUR il chitarrista e cantante della band ha tenuto un memorabile concerto a Pompei come solista. I Pink Floyd si sono sciolti da tempo. L'ultimo concerto è stato una reunion con Roger Waters il bassista durante un'evento benefico il 2 luglio 2005 a Londra...un breve concerto di circa 26 minuti . Nel video del live at Pompeii i 4 membri passeggiano nella zona vulcanica attiva dei Campi Flegrei distante qualche chilometro da Pompei e da Napoli.

@@AceofBadeReacts beh...Richard Wright è morto nel 2008 , David Gilmour ha tenuto l'ultimo concerto a Pompei nel 2016 da solista , Nick Mason fa carriera da solista pure lui. Nel 2022 Nick e David si sono riuniti insieme al bassista Guy Pratt per realizzare un brano di sostegno all'Ucraina che era stata invasa da poco. Ma dei Pink Floyd che ormai sono degli ottantenni o quasi ci possiamo godere i fantastici album perché insieme non li rivedremo più

Okay, a couple of things about this movie. There was the original release, which consisted of all the songs recorded at Pompeii, and (I'm not sure, as I never saw THIS version), may have included some of the behind the scenes stuff. Then they recorded some stuff later on, when they were doing tracks for the Dark Side of the Moon. This was added to the movie, at a later date (probably 74), and THAT is the version I have always seen. And that is also why you will always hear different release dates, because it was actually released twice.. Roger Waters is playing bass. Richard Wright is doing all the keyboards. The fact that they were allowed to play in an excavated, actual Roman theatre is incredible. Also explains why there is no audience. I always like to think that the spirits of all those poor souls that lost their lives so long ago, are who the show is for.... At this time, early 70's, a couple of movies had come out of live concerts, with some back stage footage, so that was another reason Pink Floyd did a 'live' show movie with no audience! I bought the dvd and found out that they had to use physical wires to connect to the amount of electricity they needed. All those bubbling, boiling mud pools are actually near Mt. Vesuvius, which is indeed the volcano that buried Pompeii way back when.

3 of the 4 guys seen in Pompeii performed on the 1994 Pulse Live collection (Wright, Mason, and Gilmour). Roger Waters left Pink Floyd around 1985.

Roger Waters on bass, Richard Wright on keys. Usually PF videos aren't blocked, but LZ vids are. That's a bummer you had to put writing over it, but glad you got to see it; one of my absolute favorites. There are more vocals at the end of part 2, btw; David and Rick again harmonizing.

We really didn't have "green screen" back in 1971. It was actually hand cut from film and lay it over other film. Also, the film "Pink Floyd Live at Pompeii" was a movie like film. This song is merely a part of it. Over the course of the film you see the band play their instruments quite a bit. Just trying to point out that this was not a music video. This movie, much like many of their albums, were meant to consumed as one piece of art. Not broken up into commercial sized bits.

Roger is on Bass… You’re right though, at the beginning before he picks up his bass, he is responsible for the ping on the keyboard

They show it from the beginning with the slow pan, you just have to watch closely

All the way through is was Rick on Keys and Vocal. David on Guitar and Vocal, Roger on Bass only and Nick on Drums. Roger would never play keys. Watch the video closely and is moves in at the begining and you see roger pick up the bass. David is playing slide guitar to get that spacy sound. Rick is plucking on the Piano to get the echo plink sound. You will see him move to the Organ just as it starts kicking.

Production was plagued by problems, including the lack of sufficient electrical energy within the archaeological site. This problem was eventually solved by stretching a cable for more than a mile from the modern city of Pompeii to the filming location. It took 3 days to solved the problem. So only 3 days left to film.

I was wondering why some reactions to this don't get blocked and yours did. It might be the version or copy you are using. That site might have some copyright interests in that 4K version, while the other version, not the 4K or whatever else, is why it has happened.

Part 1 opens the film and part 2 finishes the film and there is more singing if memory serves, as for what we see it's due to the fact that a lot of the footage was damaged and they just had to make do ,strangely Nick's stuff survived and if you want to see a drumming tour de force then you have to watch ' One of These Days ' from the same film, the man is an absolute animal on the drumming and this shows him at his best.

It's one thing to just watch something. But to sit through something that's over 12 minutes and analyze it takes a lot more effort than you realize. And then for KZbin to slap a copyright claim or outright block causes issues that sometimes detract from the longer material
