"Shine On You Crazy Diamond 1-5" from the same album speaks to the subject even more intimately imo. Masterpiece.

The album cover is to convey how the music industry takes advantage of the artist , as in 'getting burnt' . The stuntman was really set on fire for the album cover picture. 2 tracks on the album are about the music industry , the other 3 tracks about Syd Barrett , especially Shine on you Crazy Diamond. Nice reaction

during the recording of this song Syd showed up at the studio after not seeing them for years . he was fat , bald and bloated and his eyes showed emptiness. After realizing who he was Roger and David broke down in tears. there is a famous picture on the internet of Syd in the studio thatday.

This brings back so many great memories I had with my husband when the album came out. Both of us huge PF fans and our children's 1st concert was the Pulse concert with PF. He passed away few years ago and miss him dearly. Thanks for the reaction, love your videos and praise God one day we'll be together again!

Syd Barrett was a founding member of the band Pink Floyd along with Richard Wright, Roger Waters and Nick Mason. He was initially the driving force of the band and the lead composer. He was an extremely talented musician, composer and lyricist and music experimenter. Without him, the band as we know it today probably wouldn't exist at all. And all its members were always aware of that. Of course, David Gilmour, who joined the band at the time of Sid Barrett and played together for a while. This kind of trauma from Sid's premature departure has been borne by others for a long time - and perhaps to this day. That's why they dedicated a memory to him in many albums. And this album "Wish You Were Here" is dedicated almost entirely to Sid Barrett. Not only the title song but mainly the first and last "Shine on you Crazy Daiamond" part 1-4 and part 5-9. I consider it a musical gem and I rank it among the best that Pink Floyd has ever produced. Listen and get to know ...

Every once in a while a song comes along that really doesn't need an interpretation of the lyrics, because the lyrics are so powerful, they mean something different to everyone. Wish you were here is one of those songs. Can you guys and girls think of another one?

The Wall and Dark Side of the Moon are like the album you just listened to. They are concept albums (have a theme all the way through). The songs go from one to the other sometimes without even any stops and start of the next ones.

The only thing my 12 yo granddaughter asked from me for her birthday was a Pink Floyd T-shirt that read, “We’re Just Two Lost Souls Swimming In a Fish Bowl, Year After Year” Needless to say Nana got it for her 💖💕💖

Unfortunately, the song is only a small part of the album. If you ever have time, listen to the album in a dark room with your eyes shut and let it take over your room and eventually it just captivates you until it ends.

For more on how they felt about their band mate Syd Barrett check out their song " Shine on you Crazy diamond " perhaps the longest instrumental lead-in In history but well worth every second IMO Pink Floyd is a genre unto themselves ✌️♥️ by the way even though he was kicked out of the band they made sure he kept receiving royalties from the music they created !!!

To be fair Syd was a user of psychedelics himself. There is a story in a biography on the band I read that talks about after Syd left and losing touch with him they went in to record and some work and went into the studios for about a week recording. They all noted that there was an quiet, heavy set balding man sitting on a couch in the engineering booth the entire week who never said or did anything else than sit and listen. They came to find out later it was Syd but they hadn't recognized him due to the effects of the mental illness and drug use.

I don't know when you'll next be doing a Pink Floyd track but when it happens you should give The Great Gig In The Sky a listen. It has, in my opinion, one of the best vocals of all time.

David Gilmour was messing around with an acoustic guitar and the music for this song dropped out of it which is how David explains it. Rodger Waters was sitting in the nearby and heard the music and stated "hey that sounds pretty good" he got an idea for lyrics for a new song "Wish You Were Here". So this is one song where David Gilmour and Rodger Waters actually got together, collaborated and wrote a great meaningful song about loss, loneliness and absence!! Rodger definitely had Syd Barrett in mind when he wrote the lyrics for this! So-in retrospect, David Gilmour wrote the music Rodger Waters wrote the lyrics and they collaborated for one great song! The picture on the album cover with the gentleman on fire represents the musicians getting burned by the record company who is represented by the guy shaking the burning guy's hand! The songs "Welcome To the Machine" and especially "Have a "Cigar" also on the "Wish You Were Here" album, are scathing sarcastic swipes at record execs and record companies!!!

A real classic great album. The album Animals is also a must hear one. Dark side of the moon Pulse, is an more than epic live concert. Echoes, the b-side from the album Meddle is imho their best ever song. Listen first to the studio version because all the subtle things get lost in the also very good live version. See Wikipedia for everything you want to know about Pink Floyd.

I could be mistaken about this but I thought the story was yes Syd Barrett did get dosed with LSD the first time he ever did it but then liked it so much that he continued to do it and that's what eventually causes his mental breakdown!!
