Wow, that was a lot of cards from one 6x6 paper pad. I wish one day I will be able to layer and create beautiful cards as you do and have less waste. I loved watching you create each set of cards from the beginning. Then when you used the scraps on the last cards I was simply amazed. You should create classes to teach others. Beginner, intermediate and advanced card creators. I would be the first enrollee. Thank you for sharing.

Andrea Green My card bases are 100# cardstock. The paper I used for the layers varies since I use several different brands.

Have seen many people create cards from a paper pack, but yours has a bit more. The cards are well planned & executed, yet they aren't plain. Each has little extras that dress them. The music was peaceful. Your video was a pleasure to watch and I'm sure recipients will love the cards. I subscribed so I can see more.

I also noticed in the video you did with Penny how she has already learned the value of putting a tool away as soon as she’d finished with it, even if it was needed again soon! Beautiful cards! I find masculine cards difficult probably because I only had girls. Your video has given me ideas for using sketches, layering, and patterned paper to help add texture, color, and pizazz to my masculine and gender neutral cards. I love the idea of making and donating cards, especially to our wonderful veterans! Thank you a great video and tons of inspiration.

This was amazing! A new record for number of cards made (I think). I wasn't expecting the patriotic papers with a "beach" title... that's fine. Can't wait for your next batch of amazing.

Beth Hansen Thank you! Yes, I believe this was the most cards I’ve made from a 24-sheet 6x6 paper pad. It actually felt like the paper was never going to run out. Lol! Even though the collection is called Beach Bum, I could only picture patriotic cards. But that’s okay since I’m going to need at least 90 cards for the retirement home. I’m over halfway there. 😊

Kristie, have you ever thought about doing a live stream and showing other crafters how you accomplish this??? I am sure we all have extra supplies that we would love to turn into cards for shut-ins or nursing home patients who deserve recognition but for one reason or another do not get it. I work full time so the only days I can devote a whole 7-8 hours to a project like this is on the weekends. But if I knew what to gather together in terms of solid cardstock & enough tape runner refills, embellishments, etc I would plan for a weekend to do this with you. Just an idea!!! ❤️❤️❤️

Alice Adler I really haven’t ever thought about it before. Even though actual recording time is only about 5 - 7 hours, it takes me way longer to complete the paper pad. I stop the video a lot while I figure out what stamp, sketch, embellishments, etc to use next. I never know exactly what supplies I will need. The only supplies I know for sure that I’ll be using are the 6x6 paper pad and cardstock. And of course the usual tools, adhesives, card bases, etc. 🙂

Wow Kristie, you amaze me. This is a beautiful set of cards. I never think about mixing patterns like you do. I usually use the papers as backgrounds with other cardstocks and sentiments. How is your piercing mat different than other mats, many of us use to craft on? I always look forward to your videos.
@KristieMarcotte
@KristieMarcotte 6 жыл бұрын
Yvonne Walker Thank you! I’ve always enjoyed mixing patterns. That’s why I enjoy using 6x6’s for cardmaking. The papers usually all coordinate. If the patterns are really busy, I will add solid cardstock to help balance out the cards. The piercing mat I use is just a foam mat from We R Memory Keepers. I don’t like to put holes in the craft mat on my table. 🙂

Weird question, do have to put your left hand down on the cutter to hold it before u lift the blade? The new version I’m using requires that I hold the base down, otherwise whole thing lifts. Seems like cutter arm too tight or base should weigh more. Maybe u just get used to it and always synchronize holding paper on before lifting arm?
@KristieMarcotte
@KristieMarcotte 6 жыл бұрын
Crafting and Relaxing Hello. I had to check because I’ve never really thought about it. I think you do need to apply a little bit of weight with your left hand. But since you’re already holding paper, it’s really not a big deal. If you just switched trimmer styles, it will probably take some time to adjust. Hopefully you’ll soon love your Tonic trimmer. 🙂

As always you seem to take a really busy paper pad and make it work! I'm wondering in your thought process when you're putting this all together how do you determine your solid paper sizes? Do you purchase them in single sheets or solid packs or in coordinating packs. Like Recollections at Michaels or coordinations at Joanns has both solid and five paper packs that coordinate well together? And the same for the 12 by 12 paper? If you don't end up using all of your solid paper do you have a stash for that as well?
@KristieMarcotte
@KristieMarcotte 6 жыл бұрын
Monica Sanchez-Conrad Thank you! As far as what size cardstock I use, I don’t really have a preference. I always look through my cardstock stash first. (I have quite a bit) If I don’t have the right colors, I take the paper pad to the store so I can be sure to find the perfect colors. The stores generally carry more 12x12 colors than 8 1/2 x 11. Most of them time I purchase single sheets. But for a few colors, like black or navy blue in this video, I’ll buy the value packs. I only buy the single color value packs. Any unused cardstock gets added to my large paper collection.

Karen Thompson Thank you! I believe 51 is the most cards I’ve ever made using a 24 sheet paper pad. I wasn’t trying to make that many cards, it just happened based on the sketches I chose. 😊

You did it again now with a Patriotic theme.....that is a lot of cards from one 6x6 paper pad. I notice that you have a lot of layers for each card does it make your cards a bit heavier? Thank you again for sharing this technique...

Terrie Rodrigue Thanks for watching my video. I really appreciate it! 😊 I’ve always loved adding layers to my cards. It’s just my style. The extra layers do add some extra weight. Not a lot though. I also use a nice heavy weight paper for my card bases. It makes a huge difference in the overall feel of the cards. 🙂

Amazing! How many hours of planning before you film the video....or have you made these cards so many times you could make them in your sleep?😊

Pat Hobbs Thank you! Planning really doesn’t take me very long. I choose a paper pad, coordinating cardstock, get card bases folded, and grab a couple stamp sets. Then I just get started and figure out the rest as I go. It has definitely become very routine for me. 😊

B’s Creative Designs with Beka Ratliff Thank you! Most of the cardstock I used in this video was paper I already had. I usually buy cardstock from Joann’s or Michaels. 🙂

And I'm not sure if somebody asked you this already, but how do you keep all your sketches? Do you have them all printed out or do you print them as you're using them?
@KristieMarcotte
@KristieMarcotte 6 жыл бұрын
sophyamary I wish I had an awesome answer for you on how I store the card sketches. Currently, I print them and just keep them in folders by sketch company and in numerical order. I really need to find a better method though since my sketch pile is quite thick.

Hi Kristie! I've become addicted to your KZbin videos! I have a question about your nursing home project. Are the cards you make TO the residents or for them to use for others? And if they are TO the residents, what do you write in them? I have been making projects for a local nursing home and am thinking about starting to make them cards too. I need some input! Thanks so much!

Robyn G Aw, Thank you. I’m glad you are enjoying my videos. 😊 The cards I make for the retirement homes are for the residents. I write a message inside each card. I usually provide about 30 cards every month. (The activity coordinator passes out the cards to those he feels needs one.) But for holidays, I make around 90 so every resident will receive one. I keep my messages short, just a few sentences. But I always keep them positive and uplifting and closing with ‘Sending Sunshine and Smiles’.

Do you have a certain measurements you start with when cutting the 6x6 paper. The camera is going so fast looks like you start off cutting each piece the same way?
@KristieMarcotte
@KristieMarcotte 6 жыл бұрын
Karen Cassels I use card sketches for most my cards. All the sketch measurements are listed on my blog if you are interested. I use several different sketches for each 6x6 paper pad. But I usually cut the background piece first, so the cutting may look similar. 🙂
