I just picked up a pink toe tarantula from PetSmart. I absolutely love it. It's about 3" and I have it in correct enclosure now. They had it in wrong enclosure. And called it a curly hair tarantula. I now have a love for the new baby I got.

I found that adult Avicularia did very well with several layers of reptile carpet on the floor of the enclosure. A hide siliconed vertically in the back corner. With the hide it’s a half hollowed log type that’s made of resin. A resin water bowl at the bottom on the carpet (they will come down to ground for water often). That is basically it. Nothing can rot, there’s no mites, no hygiene problems & the best part is the carpet can be put in damp for humidity & changed every few days, then washed with antibacterial that’s safe for spiders of course. This way not only is the cost cut on substrates but it’s literally zero maintenance. The glass can be wiped clean on a regular basis & uneaten food & remains of eaten food can be removed easily. This means the tarantula never need cleaning completely out & you will never destroy their web. Do refreshed your web regularly if left. The log That is silicon they will always make their web home in that. All Mine live 12 years plus! I also found that high humidity wasn’t as important when they reach their adult colours. So I found putting reptile carpet in slightly damp & letting it dry & repeating every week.

I know cross-ventilation is important, and maybe over-misting can be an issue, but as for me personally I’ve found Avics and Caribena sp. are very prone to dehydration if they don’t have constant access to water, unlike more arid species, so I personally think worrying too much about too much humidity can be potentially dangerous. Then again, my tarantula room is quite dry and relatively warm, so your mileage may vary. I just think in the hobby we might have gone from one extreme to another in terms of care for these guys. Just an observation, great video!
