well i hope it climbs well, at that price i would not have low expectations, its 2023 and the bikes have been looking the same since 2017-2018. All they have been doing is changing a bit of geometry and paint colours... MTB world needs to add some spice to their ridiculous price tags because its going to go back to what it was before covid hit. Well its already well on its way there.

Agree with the video commentators, great analysis. I bought the same model as tested (Evo, Elite, Alloy) in part, based on their assessment. Almost 3 months into bike ownership and I’ve gone back to re-listen and contrast my own experiences. I found the comments spot on and love this bike. The technology and performance is far, far superior to my great at one time but aged 2007 Cannondale Prophet. Making a financial commitment like this is a big one but I’m finally glad I did. I’m enjoying the sport in a way that was simply unattainable with my previous ‘rig’ and riding with the confidence and inspiration I haven’t had in serval years.

I have a Evo carbon that I built up and it's the dreamiest (Sam Pilgrim voice) bike I've ridden. It climbs so well and is a riot going down. I don't see me needing a new bike for a long time, especially since the evo has such modern geo.

I bought this frame and put all Enduro components on it and it is a super sick bike… I feel like this is specialized’s “quiver killer”. Don’t be afraid to change your GEO often, in 15 minutes with a torq wrench I can go from the setup for a pedaly 20 mile epic, hit jumps, race enduro, or go slack the shit out of it and throwing a 27.5 rear wheel on it for bike park laps!! My only issue is when I take larger hits, big high speed drops, it eats through the travel somewhat quickly, but I think more VOL spacers will fix that nicely. Specialized get a lot of shit from the ‘cool’ kids who think they’re edgy and “don’t do mainstream”, but they are absolutely killing it at the moment; they have a bike in every category that is class leading or very close to it. Their S Works builds are still ridiculously priced but everything else is not a million miles away and no worse than many others. 👏🏻

When I heard "Horst Link" I must admit I was a little surprised. Although it's functional and proven, they've been using the same name for 20 years. Is that the pinnacle of rear suspension design? It may be (I admit to not have been following their evolution recently), but the name wouldn't indicate it. Don't mean to be petty, but in today's market, being on the cutting edge is important.
@Mockle07
@Mockle07 3 жыл бұрын
@@dudeonbike800 Most suspension systems have been around for ages, they have just been refined over the years. It’s very rare that a completely new suspension concept comes along and even then they tend to be simply ‘different’ rather than better. Having a Horst link hasn’t held the bike back, but they are not afraid to drop it where it makes sense to (like the non-Evo Stumpy).

I want the fork and shock from this on my Trek EX 8 gen 6. Can't afford it right now though. This stumpjumper is on sale right now for $4700 but it is over $6k normally. Great bike for the price if you can get it on sale. Travel though is getting a little close to Enduro with 150 rear and 160 front. If the fork was 150 front this would be perfect for me since I prefer an all around bike. This bike looks like its supposed to fit between an all around trail bike and an Enduro bike which is probably a good thing for all those jumpy ridders. This bike will give you a hard workout going up because of the travel. Not a good XC bike in anyway for sure, but thats the purpose of the bike.

I completely agree, and after a few years of brand seeming to completely forget about alloy, it's awesome to see again; if the current trends are too be believed, every new Canyon and Transition will be offered in both alloy and carbon going forward. One new trend I'm loving is brands like Specialized and Transition offering not only base model alloy builds, but also high end alloy builds (like this one), for people that still want high specs, but either don't see the need to spend an extra grand on carbon, or want to avoid carbon for environmental reasons.

Agreed 100%. The last thing I’m thinking about when descending rough technical terrain is “gee, I’m sure glad I bought a carbon frame” as I’m much more focused on picking the best line, braking, looking ahead, etc… As long as the frame is stiff enough, and the shock, fork and tires all do their job, it does not matter at all the material of the frame.
@Mockle07

Got the last Stumpy Evo - this allows up to 160mm travel - so if you think about upgrading the fork internals to get n extra 10mm... definitely possible. In my eyes it climbs really good. If you upgrade the bb and hub for better friction some day, it becomes even so much more fun. From the last to this version they went a bit bigger on the rear suspension which is a perfect change (the last had 140mm in the back). After all I feel like all the upgrades they did to the frame totally make sense. It has also become a bit more expensive but it´s still at a good price.

Side note, I had to replace the shock with a Float X2 Factory because no matter what I did (200psi and largest spacer), I couldn't keep from bottoming out and I'm only 135 lbs. Suspension Syndicate said I could tune the shim stack in the DPX2 (it comes "Trail Tuned"), but I was afraid it wouldn't work and I'd end up buy the X2 anyway so I just did it. I'm actually considering ending my 27 year hardtail streak for this bike. I'm currently riding a large Fuse, and I love it. My fuse has a 150mm Zeb ultimate and full SLX/XT on it with the stock wheelset. I was going to just buy the frame, and possibly pick up wheels later, since that's what the budget allows. Am I nuts to think I can go from a hardtail to 150mm travel? My last full squish bike was a 96 Zaskar. It was bad enough to make me not want to ever ride a full squish again. Folks have told me to rent a bike to see if I like it, but I won't know in a day. I'm a fairly aggressive rider on the Fuse, and spend a lot of time tailgating full squish bikes down most of the trails around WNC. I've been threatening to do this for a year now. Just not sure what I'm going to get out of rear suspension that I don't currently get out of an aggressive hardtail.

I use a Trek DS3, light mountain bike, and i never bought it that kind of mtb (trail/enduro) But, as I readed on the one of the best bikes website, no matter the extra money, I must have that one (the Evo). 🤷‍♂️ Snob, capitalism, expert journalist advice, I don't know, but since frebuary I will I have a stumpjumper EVO Comp Alloy 23 S4 satin black

I wonder what it’s like to ride with 63 degree head angle. Does it make the seat post angle too slack and the reach too short? I mean there must be a reason why other manufacturers just offer adjustability within a relatively small range. 🤔
@hannes6114
@hannes6114 3 жыл бұрын
Wouldn't the seatpost get steeper? When the bike gets lower in front? I think other brands don't offer that much adjustability since it takes a lot more engineering and make it easo for themselves with only a flip chip.
@mattes3183
@mattes3183 3 жыл бұрын
@@hannes6114 Nope. As long as the front triangle stays as it is. Usually slacking the head angle makes the saddle move back while the bottom bracket moves forward. In case you use an adjustable seat stay (maybe flip chip) the BB also drops.
@adamcline121
@adamcline121 3 жыл бұрын
@@mattes3183 The reason specialized was able to achieve such great adjustability was because of the headset cup. By changing the angle there it will essentially isolate the head angle and not affect the other geo numbers. Most other manufacturers only offer flip chips in the linkage seat-stays etc... which will intern slacken the bb and shorten the reach when the head angle get slackened and that is why when using those adjustments it has to be done in small increments. Hope that helps!
@DavidFoundCo
@DavidFoundCo 2 жыл бұрын
Headset cups in the slacker mode do steepen the seat tube angle bc the front center gets lower. You can also slacken it by putting a longer air shaft in the fork or flipping the chip in the back but those two methods do make a seat tube angle slacker

@@wernerprost6624 sorry, I kinda miss understood your post earlier. Im ultra surprised too TBH. Been trying to figure out why that might be the case. A thought I have is that on the propane, pedaling actually had a shock extension affect (anti-squat > 100%) which gave the feeling while seated of being thrusted forward in their seat. Another thought is the test methodology. The test is done on a road with likely a 3-4% grade. Lots of MTB climbing trails are double that. That could change the weight balance of the bike causing more rear suspension sag. I don't know, I'm just happy because I was hoping the stumpy would be efficient climber. Building one up for next season. 😁

I doubt that with a travel very close to an enduro bike. If I wanted to travel I would get last generation or one of specializes all around trail or XC stumpjumpers. This bike will make your legs explode trying to go up. This bike going downhill should be allot of fun with all that travel.

All these people calling this an all mountain bike even though it has enduro travel. Would like to see some times comparing it to other all mountain bikes. I bet that extra travel they gave it this generation is going to take away from its ability to go up hill. Really wish people would review and sell this bike properly, its starting to get misleading how this bike is being pushed.
