This stuff isn’t discussed enough. I’m glad most of them gave actual examples of foods and not just “40 grams of quality carbs”. Examples are always way more helpful.

Gaterade type drinks really make a dif for me.22 oz gaterade gives me less cramping than 22oz of water. All about the electrolytes in extreme sports!

@@m00nchildblues Agree 100%. When I started MTBing, I drank water. Then I tried Gatorade and the difference was staggering. Water does absolutely nothing for me. It can keep you hydrated, but the electrolytes must be regularly replenished to keep the body operating at redline.
@sixstanger004 жыл бұрын
I race XC and to me plain water just doesn't cut it. It keeps you hydrated, but it doesn't replenish electrolytes which are essential for long days on the bike. I also agree that the body seems to go through water faster. I usually keep my bottle full of Lemon Lime Gatorade. I also try to drink a 20 oz before the race starts, along with a Gu stroop wafel. It's imperative that you have your body already saturated with fluids going in; the amino acids in the wafel will help combat muscle fatigue. A couple of hours before the race, I'll eat a blueberry muffin and maybe a little coffee for a shot of caffeine -- but never less than 1 hr before start time. If you go into a race doped up on caffeine, your body will metabolize it quicker during the race and you'll find yourself trying to maintain a race pace while staving off a caffeine crash. The night before is when I go load up on carbs -- pasta like chicken alfredo. Just nothing fried like a hamburger -- anything greasy and you'll feel like total shit 10 minutes into the race.

Ill tell you right now. From a bodybuilder stand point. I have found nothing better than the following. Empty stomach, 5 gooey medjool dates and in 2 Cups of water, blended frothy. Drink it all about 20 mins before the race. This combo will give you endless legs. Best work out ever. Loads of direct clean energy.

None of these “diets” seem all that great or really even healthy. Just carbs and hydration for energy. Where’s the caloric value? Where’s the protein and vegetables and fiber. I’d like to know what they meal prep throughout the week

For 50+km days on the bike and the kind of training these guys do you need to be eating carbs. Pretty much impossible to get in the volume of food required if you're trying to eat low carb. It's also the quickest and easiest to digest which is important during these big days. So what might apply to an office worker who rides only a few times a week might not apply to these guys.
@machyne826 жыл бұрын
Tom Bugler meat is incredibly calorie and nutritionally dense. Watch a few vegan videos, they all complain about digestion. I’m doing carnivore. I can eat 2.5 lbs of meat and feel like I’m water fasting. Sammy Inkinen and his wife rowed to Hawaii on only fats and protein.
@MrCobba1236 жыл бұрын
Why you'd want to limit yourself and ignore the health benefits of all other food groups is beyond me. What a restrictive way to live/eat. Protein is very slow to digest. When you're riding as hard as these guys you need quick energy.
@machyne826 жыл бұрын
CuddlySloth I find it incredibly liberating, I don’t have to think about what shit artificial poison is in my food because it doesn’t have an ingredient label. I have reversed metabolic syndrome and have seen more gains and the best health of my life. That’s why I do it.
@scrumpoxjnr6 жыл бұрын
@@machyne82 You do you mate, it might work for you and your lifestyle, but I very much doubt a meat only diet is going to optimal for people racing all day. Vegans only struggle with digestion because typically they're eating massive amounts of highly fibrous foods like vegetables and legumes. More simple carbohydrate from potatoes, oats, flour, sugars etc goes down very easily and is the quickest food to digest and that's what I and most of these other people are suggesting. Not vegetables and beans. Meat is also very expensive for quality outdoor reared produce and very expensive environmentally too.
