Yes it's kind of a common theme with them. The gothic sound. But in reality those guys were really funny. They kind of poke fun of that whole genre with their lyrics and stuff. Black number 1 is a song about a Gothic chick who dyes her hair black to fit in to the gothic scene LOL. And unfortunately the lead singer Peter Steele has passed away years ago.

Enslaved by Vegetables I've always thought it kind of funny that so many people reference this song as being such an amazing gothic song when they were really kind of poking fun at the concept and just ran with it.

May Peter Steele rest in peace. He was such a beautiful soul. Struggled with clinical depression his whole life. Loved too much. Hurt too much. He left some truly gorgeous music behind. PLEASE go back and listen to their entire discography. The man will steal your heart I swear. He was a true poet and artist and a huge influence on me...

A little late but I just bought their first six albums after seeing the music video for Black Number 1. I was a child of the 80s and 90s and somehow missed this. I even bought the two Carnivore albums before Peter Steele formed Type O Negative. Good stuff.

I miss him so much. Type 0 was always a favorite. I could make you a list a mile long to check out as far as live performances etc. Peter was a complex guy, but I knew him for awhile and always kind to me. Sarcastic/self deprecating humor that was off the chain. Major loss not just personally, but to music and the world. Anyway, please do check out more of their music. I have my favorites, but some are quite long and probably wouldn't do well as a reaction video. I'm sure those commenting will give you good advice on what to react to. Please do give them a proper listen, because they did some beautiful music together.

They are quite gothic with the dark vampiric and romanticism that's prominent in their songs. The lead singer unforunately died in 2010, which was very sad. He's known for his unique baritone voice and vampiric effect in general with the eye rolling and due to his tall stature (he was 6ft 7). A lot of the songs he wrote about addiction, loss of loved ones, and romance and it really all comes together nicely to fit the gothic aesthetic of the band. I'd recommend Christian Woman by them where you hear him sing really low notes in the chorus :)

Harambe the Sweet Prince I heard Christian Woman, back in 1997. I lived in Pasadena, CA, back then; that was the very first time, that I've heard of Type- O Negative, & I went to Poo Bah's Record Shop, looking for the album that held that song. Slow Bloody Kisses was the name of the album & I've been hooked on them since. Okay, Pete Steele was a hardcore badass. I've met him, in back of Slim Jim Phantom's Poker Room. That night, Type-O had Tairrie B, & her band Manhole, open up for them, but they cancelled at the last minute, because of an emergency, in their immediate family. We talked a bit, but he really turned out to be a really cool dude. Sad to hear that he passed away, but his haunting style of singing, as well as his dark etheral vocals & lyrics, & his bass playing, will be felt by all of his fans. Now I'm going to listen to T.O.N.'s Christian Woman, lol. But Petrus "Pete" Steele may be gone...but him & his band will never be forgotten. 🤘✌

My fav band! Yes they are a dark, tongue-in-cheek band. Sing about society, girlfriend who passed away, suicide, and also have some humorous songs like "I like Goils" because too many men were hitting on him after his playboy spread:) I've listened to them since mid 80s before they were Type O and called Carnivore. I agree w others there are so many amazing songs but this song fully encompasses what Type-O was about. Lord Petrus Thomas Ratajczyk I miss you so much and will never get over your passing. You guys got me through a lot of tough times and am so grateful to have gotten to see you perform twice. Your loving disciple- BD.

Saw them live! Peter Steele looked like a giant on stage, (standing at 6'8"). As the frontman for Type O Negative, Steele was known for his vampiric affect, towering stature, rich bass-baritone vocals, and a dark, often self-deprecating sense of humor. His lyrics were often intensely personal, dealing with subjects including love, loss, and addiction. Type O Negative was an American gothic metal band formed in Brooklyn, New York in 1989 by Peter Steele (lead vocals, bass), Kenny Hickey (guitar, backing vocals), Josh Silver (keyboards, backing vocals), and Sal Abruscato (drums, percussions), who was later replaced by Johnny Kelly. Their lyrical emphasis on themes of romance, depression, and death resulted in the nickname "The Drab Four." The band went Platinum with 1993's Bloody Kisses, and Gold with 1996's October Rust, and gained a fanbase through seven studio albums, two best-of compilations, and concert DVDs. On April 14, 2010, lead vocalist, bassist, and principal songwriter Peter Steele died, reportedly from heart failure brought on by an aortic aneurysm. Members Kenny Hickey and Johnny Kelly stated in a November 2010 interview with French music magazine Rock Hard that the band would not continue. RIP Peter Steele...

Type O was one of the truly great, underrated bands that came out in the 90s. Their songs have lots of wonderful little contrasts (vocals/rhythms, uptempo/dark & depressing tones, jokey & sarcastic lyrics/insights into the meaning of life and love, etc.) You can listen to this band for 20+ years and still find interesting little gems in their songs. I only saw them live twice, which now seems like not nearly enough. I miss Peter Steele.

Great idea for a channel. Love watching your reaction and I think you nailed your description of the song / band. I remember when this video came out, I was about 14. It was completely different than just about everything that was playing on MTV at the time. 'Profits of Doom' is an epic song with lots of melodic changes :))

The genius of Type O was SO overlooked. The way they would change the tempo and feel within a single song much the way the Beatles did on the Sergeant Peppers album. And did it WELL! Seemless. One song would feel as if they smashed 2,3 or 4 songs into one!

I love this band. Always have. I was always drawn to their darkness. It seduces me. Peter Steele, the lead singer passed away a few years ago. Also, unrelated to their music, he was the only rocker to grace the pages of Playgirl with a full hard on.

Type O Negative were really into the Beatles, so much so, that they called themselves the Drab Four... They did a medley of Beatles songs on their album "World Falling Down".

Check out the album version of this song. It's like 11 minutes long and just overall, better. They had to edit it to make a short enough music video for MTV back in 1993. Peter Steele, born in Brooklyn, New York, was 6' 8" and 260 lbs of solid muscle. (A lot of women used to just gush over him.) And lol, he posed for Playgirl back in 1996. So have fun with that. He was intimidating as hell, but actually a pretty nice guy and FULL of humor. He was a raunchy man's man a lot of the time. He liked to work on cars and his house. He built a custom 1985 Pontiac Grand Prix for himself. Here's a pic of him and it. bit.ly/2MXBVHw He was on cocaine for a while and got paranoid, putting cameras in his shower head, light switches and stuff like that. He assaulted a love rival back in 2005, so he spent 30 days in Riker's Island prison. Unfortunately, Peter is no longer with us. He died back on April 14, 2010 from an Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm, aged 48. I never truly got into Type O Negative because I wasn't into the goth scene, but I always liked their music. I never disliked anything I heard from them. It seems like I get into bands after someone dies. It's unfortunate for me, but that's the way it is sometimes. I do remember hearing about his death right after it happened.

Pete Steele dies like 2 years ago i remember seeing articles..but a few Type O Negative songs speak to me..like Glass Walls of Limbo because the choral baritone in it reminds me of some Conan the barbarian-like movies

Wow your channel's growing pretty fast congratulations! You should definetly consider reacting to either ''Soup'' or ''No Rain'' by Blind Melon they are easely one of the most underrated bands of the 90's and they definitely had one of the best vocalists ever Mr. Shannon Hoon he also sings backing vocals on some of GnR songs and he also performed live and appeared in their music video for ''Don't Cry''. You won't be disappointed ;)

type o negative is more of a Gothic type heavy metal band. Peter Steele was the vocalist and bass player. pretty unique taste and some of their songs have a dark sense of humor. checkout a band called Danzig, preferably their older stuff, kind of similar in style. good track though.

You should do My Girlfriends Girlfriend , as a goth guy coming of age in 1997 this was the soundtrack when I was hooking up with a goth girl especially with the subject matter with two bisexual goth girls it was perfect for a threesome exploring our sexuality and Type O Negative along with Seplutera and Ozzy was my first concert at the age of 10 in 1995

Been a TON fan since early '90's. Peter Steele had a voice that could just make you feel every emotion, often at the same time. General dark romance, gothic vibe. Some have said that their music is depressing (Red Water [Christmas Mourn], Love You To Death, September Sun, Everyone I love Is Dead, etc. are some of my favs). But let's face it, life isn't always peaches and cream, the band is just realistic in their views and emotions. Also many songs with a strong sexual feel (Be My Druidess, My Girlfriend's Girlfriend). One of my all-time top 3 favorite bands ever!

this song was actually very tongue in cheek. written about an ex of the singer who dyed her hair using 'black number 1' , you can tell the jokeyness of it during the finger snaps at the end, its the theme to the Addams Family

I love this band!! The lead singer passed away quite a few years back! Type O Negative definitely has it's own sound. Very dark sound! He had a come to Jesus before he passed. Which I love! In April 2007, Steele revealed that he began identifying himself as Roman Catholic in recent years, after decades of self-professed atheism.[16] In an interview with Decibel magazine, Steele explained: "There are no atheists in foxholes, they say, and I was a foxhole atheist for a long time. But after going through a midlife crisis and having many things change very quickly, it made me realize my mortality. And when you start to think about death, you start to think about what's after it. And then you start hoping there is a God. For me, it's a frightening thought to go nowhere. I also can't believe that people like Stalin and Hitler are gonna go to the same place as Mother Teresa."[52]

Thank you for finally doing a reaction for Type O. Lord Petrus Steele is sorely missed. He wrote ALL of the music to his songs, but shared the royalties evenly with his band mates. He self deprecating humor is unforgettable. His intellect remarkable. And his musical genius one of a kind. Unfortunately, like many musical geniuses, he lost his battles against his demons. Even though it's said he was sober for a number of months, his life style perhaps caught up with him. One thing, it is a mistake and a widely spread one, that he died from aortic aneurysm. He actually died from his colon bursting. One of his beloved cats was sick and dying at the same time he got gravely ill. He thought he had food poisoning but it turned out much worse. So, instead of taking care of himself and going to the hospital, he cared more for his cat which is loved like his children. If only he could have gone to the hospital and had someone take care of his cat, he would possibly still be here. Miss this dude so much. Please do more reactions to Type o. May I suggest World Coming Down live. Everyone dies live. You can't go wrong with any of it.
