@@PinkPopcast The book is a mashup (sorry I'm repeating myself in different comments, but people generally only see the comments they happen to see) of Austen's book with new material, so there are plenty of lines (whole sections, in fact) from the original in the mashup book. @sineadlucas3682
@sineadlucas3682 4 ай бұрын
@jaimicottrill2831 I think because there have already been multiple versions of Pride and Prejudice committed to film. There's the 2005 film, but also the BBC tv series in 1996 (not entirely certain on the date) as well as other, earlier productions. Pride and Prejudice has arguably, in its "original" form, been done to the death. If you want to watch more book accurate versions, then you have those available to you. I love this film because it's different. It takes a story I love in a new and interesting direction. It won't be to everyone's taste, but that's fine. The good thing is that if you don't think you'll enjoy it then you don't have to watch it.

@@sineadlucas3682 Good point about it being done to death, as you say. I'm a bit of a book snob it seems 😅. But the BBC adaption in 1996 will always be the truest and most faithful to the book for me.

@jaimicottrill2831 if you haven't had ever actually bothered to read the source material for this film, which is the actual novel pride and prejudice and zombies, you would know that it is actually a pretty fairly faithful adaptation. Yes, mixed with horror tropes, but obviously written by someone who was a dedicated fan of the original pride and prejudice novel. Complete with pretty standard revenge fantasies held by most of us that love the original novel but never get to actually see in it due to the mores of the time.

The zombies were utalizing the consumption of pig brains as a way to keep from falling into a mindless horde state so they could outmanoeuvre the humans. Thats how they were able to outsmart them during the battle like Mr. Darcy said. Because the humans didnt think that the zombies would be smart enough to actually carry out a strategy. So it wasnt in fact "lame" of Mr. Darcy to feed them human brains .... I put to much thought into this😂

@@PinkPopcast They weren't mindless zombies, that was the problem. They had already used their intelligence to strike Parliament and the Palace, starting the siege of London. The intelligent zombies had struck a pre-emptive strike to take out the human / living leadership. They clearly wanted to conquer and kill the living population. So this now being full out war, Darcy made the very not lame decision to take out the zombie leadership. Best choice he could make to save lives. Living people vs the dead who want to eat you. Not much moral grey area there. At least, that's how I see it.

The book is actually _Pride and Prejudice_ with parts taken out and other parts put in. The publisher had the idea for the mashup, and got Seth Grahame-Smith to write these added portions to the book. I don't think the book is that great, but Grahame-Smith did go on to write _Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter,_ which was written as if it were a biography of Lincoln, and I thought that was pretty good. PPZ did have some sequel books written by Steve Hockensmith. There was a publishing trend following the publication of PPZ to do other mashups of famous works, such as _Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters, Mansfield Park and Mummies, _ and _Android Karenina._

The fight scene with Liz and Darcy is amazing, cuz they can finally exhibit their anger and emotions, instead of internalizing them. When I was younger, and the books first came out where they took classic books ie: Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice etc and added monsters to it, I was all 'Oh this is such rubbish, how dare they!'. it was actually pretty funny when you read the actual text of the books, because they literally used the same sentences, but threw 'zombies' in there in parts. but I definitely enjoyed the movie though. Matt Smith was hilarious as Mr Collins, I feel like he always does the best with whatever ridiculous roles he chooses to pick up. Lady Catherine being extremely badass was also pretty great, because in the original book she has a line about how she would be great the pianoforte, if she had her learned it, but in this one, she actually does stuff, not just comments on it. So much better than you would think adding zombies could do! I didn’t see this movie for a few years after it came out because I was skeptical about it- p&p is my favorite regency era films and I was worried it would be ruined - when I did see it years after release I loved it and was very impressed how they were able to adapt the book so well with the inclusion of zombies. That it could still have the same nuances with the inclusion of the zombies, that the zombie plot did not detract from what makes p&p such a beloved and timeless film! While when it comes to the film adaptations I prefer the 2005 I really liked and enjoyed what this adaptation did with the source material!

As you know, there have been many different versions of Pride and Prejudice over the years, but I personally love this rendition and how they incorporated zombies into the mix. It would never occur to me to do that, but they pulled it off! And I loved all of the comedic twists. I really enjoyed the fact that the Bennett sisters weren't these ignorant foolish simps but rather these bad ass bitches. Did you notice how during the first ball scene where everyone was running out to escape from the Zombies, but the Bennett sisters actually ran in to obliterate them? I loved that! And don't even get me started on Mr. Collins character. Dude was crazy nuts! I was dying when he was making Lizzie carry all the rifles to her aunts house just so he could get there early to get a fresh scone. And the mother asking Lady Katherine if she wore her eye patch for fashion or function? Wtf?! That was super random! Anyway, thanks for taking me down memory lane- I hadn't watched that film in quite a while. Keep up the great work!! 😂😘🧟 🎥

The person who adapted this took Jane Austen’s original book, and had the rule that every page had to have at least one word changed (notated in red) and at least one word of the original kept (notated in black). He said some pages had only one word in red, and some had only one word in black. He did it basically as a dare, but it ended up being a surprise cult hit.

Ok first, loved the call back to Cinderella benji. That was a good one. Second, my random thought about disney descendants. Did anyone feel like the song “Night Falls” from the third one would work in this movie? Third: while this is not my favorite version of the story, I like how they are making it more palatable for a younger audience who may want to start reading Austen.

This is such a guilty pleasure movie for me lol. It’s definitely a movie that you don’t watch to take seriously, but I do genuinely enjoy how they weaved the zombies into the historical aspect. Mainly though, I watch this movie for Lilly James and for Matt Smith as Mr. Collins who is actually one of, if not my favorite version, of Mr. Collins. YES haha I’m so happy my comment and others’ from P&P has manifested into this reaction. I didn’t expect this movie to be a favorite of mine, but it somehow captured the soul and banter between Darcy and Lizzy while still managing to add zombies into the mix… ;-) Also, the fight between Darcy and Lizzy reminds me so much of Will Turner and Elizabeth Swan fighting together during PoC 3 as Captain Barbosa marries them…. This is the only P&P adaptation that doesn’t make my brother fall asleep and he thoroughly enjoyed this movie. Ig you’d have to prepare yourself….

yeah, as others have said this film adaptation is in places more book accurate than the Pride & Prejudice film you reacted to, in some cases even the costumes in this are more accurate, because the director of the Knightely P&P just happened to prefer costumes from a slightly earlier time period and like most filmmakers, refused to work with bonnets.
