Richen it up a little with the main jet, it seems lean. Look up cameron niamelas video on plug chops and do one. You'll get your jetting spot on very easily. A plug chop would make a great video too
@mikelwmc

I agree plug chop is the best way to get the jetting on. I've recommended this to him a number of times also leak down test. ThIs TRX isn't running right
@mikelwmc
@mikelwmc 4 жыл бұрын
@@jaydensdream714 what does the existing iridium plug have to do with a plug chop? Jet kits are trash. Always use genuine jets. Definitely difficult to tell if the jetting is proper without knowing the complete setup, premix ratio, type of fuel, elevation, temperature, ect. Knowing these variables you can get it close but a plug chop is the way to dial it in.
@mikelwmc
@mikelwmc 4 жыл бұрын
@@jaydensdream714 Dude, troll much? My advice and recommendation is pretty standard when it comes to tuning two strokes and it's just to help Joe. I never mentioned iridium plug I believe stock plug is br8es NGK which is like $2 a piece. Small price to pay to avoid catastrophic engine damage and a piece of mind to know the jetting is right. Also I have no idea what his conditions are each is different. I don't know his setup, elevation (where he lives), or many of the different variables that will factor in proper jetting. All's I know is what I recommended leak down test and plug shopping again is very standard and what I would do with any 2-stroke I'm tuning. I don't mind you disagreeing with me I'm just giving advice based on my years of experience in what any other engine tuner would recommend. All good man.

You go burning down the road almost anywhere else in the US like this, the cops will be there in a couple minutes. Living out in farm country in Wisconsin is the only reason he's able to do this. Even if it's legal to ride a dirt bike or quad down the road in other places, you have to have permits or stickers and stay on the shoulder, and stay under 35mph, blah blah blah. They're probably required in Wisconsin too, but I've never seen any evidence of one on a machine, so I'm not sure. Honestly, I can't believe his neighbors don't get fed up with it, and call the cops just because of the noise, and "wreckless driving". I feel like all the houses around there must be relatives, or else they're just super cool neighbors. I'd be pissed if someone rode through my yard like he does. I ride my bikes through my yard, but i'm ripping up my own yard, not someone else's.
@TEKKYTWO
@TEKKYTWO 4 жыл бұрын
@@stevebussard That sounds more than reasonable. Yea that's what I was assuming that he's allowed to ride like that because of where he lives (not in the city). Here is London noway you'll get stopped in 1.27 minutes. Wait so you're allowed to ride a dirt bike in some states if going under 35mph?
@stevebussard
@stevebussard 4 жыл бұрын
@@TEKKYTWO rules are different depending on what state you're in, and what county within each state. I'm from Michigan. Some areas (generally more rural) have rules where you can legally ride on the shoulder of the main roads, even with a non-street-legal bike or quad. The purpose is to allow you to get from one trail to another. In order to do that legally though, you have to purchase a ORV sticker. You also have to have a trail sticker to legally ride the trails. It's like $40 a year, and all the money from them pays to maintain the trails. Michigan has some of the largest and best trail systems in the US, so I'm more than happy to pay my fees every year. Again, regardless of stickers, doing what Joe does in almost any area in Michigan, there would be cops all over the place. You'd probably get away with a "flyby", but never the back and forth, and racing etc.

It sounds like the jetting is off. When you take off it sounds like it’s still cold I know it isn’t after running it like that. It will depend on where you bought it what was the altitude and what is your altitude where you live. Altitude plays a big role in that. I run an 88 and 86 and the jetting is changed a lot because of the altitude. My 88 is flat track and is geared. I was hit by a police officer’s radar 86mph on the 88 it’s port and polished geared different etc. every time we go race we have to jet it. Sometimes you can turn the screw and get it tuned in. You can change the sprockets and run a 20-22 rear tire you will go faster. My 86 don’t have a lot just a pipe and little bore. I was hit by cop at 73mph. The 86 has 6 gears the 88-89 have 5 gears

Sounds like rider error. Read any dirtwheels magazine and it'll tell you the 250r doesn't have the same top speed of a banshee. Banshee hit 77 mph and I believe the trx250r was 72 mph. On low end power the 250r was matched with the banshee being a single cylinder. But the twin cylinder revved higher and made more power.

It most certainly does NOT NEED another gear. What it needs is another chain to the front axel, locker rears, clutches to lock the front hubs and slightly larger tires with good grip. Higher speed on this is not necessary but better traction on the trails is needed with slight rollover protection and in difficult conditions would be light enough to get unstuck fairly easy. Powder coated frame is good but better would be a button for 4X4 with front clutches being so light it would be a great off road Machine. 70mph is not anything for use unless through the trees in 4 wheel drive, then exhilarating through the mud.

Dude... The bike will go over a hundred mph... IF... that's what you want it to do, but it's NOT meant to be fast on top end, it's built to get it, and get it as fast as it can, especially off the line and coming out of corner's! It's sounds sick, like it's loading up a little bit. It would probably be faster and sound a lot better IMO if it had a good FMF pipe on it. I'm not sure what you have, maybe a DG or something, IDK, but it sure doesn't sound like any FMF I've ever had the sweet pleasure of listening to and gunning it. IMO, it would make a big difference, especially after you rejet it, which could be why it's cutting out in the first place, that thing should be smooth as silk and not sound like it has a cold. Just saying.

None of his 2 strokes have ever run right. I don't think he's really interested in learning how to fine tune them.A bone stock 86 5 speed breaks 70 no problem.

As other have said, if you dont know if thats not a forged slug, warm it up a few minutes longer and get a new plug in there for some accurate readings. Still lean on bottom and sounds fat on top(assuming your thumb and carb are actually wide open). Who's saying running this engine wide open for extended periods is unsafe for anything but the rider? These are near bulletproof. Speaking from an 88 with fewer parts, lots of hours but correct jetting, yours is not putting out what it should. Document whats in the top end and mag, research it, verify settings and fuel requirement, jet and walk mild banshees(I have both).

I thought you told John this thing would smoke a banshee!!! Wishful thinking but no, still a nice quad though and it didn't blow up. Kx500 next project, since your buying all 2 strokes

I realize I missed the boat by 2 years but the silencer desperately needs to be repacked. It will sound way WAY better and you’ll pick up a little bit of performance for a few bucks.

Throw a smaller rear or bigger front sprocket. It will stretch the gears out abit and power band out longer. Gears seem short with the power it has.
