This movie had an English dub all ready done but then they decided to go back and make the best casting ever with Pauly Shore as Pinocchio! With Napoleon Dynamite as his horse and SpongeBob as Geppetto!
Let's take a look at both version of this weird version of Pinocchio that barely wants to do the Pinocchio story!

I know Phelous does videos on animated mockbusters these days, but this has got to be the most... unorthodox film Phelan has ever reviewed. Sure, he's done stuff like that Mondo TV Christmas in New York film, and Grandma got Run over by a Reindeer special. But this Pinocchio movie with two weird dubs that make it entertaining dreck... is one of the most "out there" Phelous has gotten. Which I don't mind... I do like it when someone thinks outside the box... once in a while, that is. Also I do have to give Lionsgate credit for billing Tom Kenny for their dub of Pinocchio: a true story. More voice actors should be given top billing... or billing in general... But then again, it IS Tom Kenny, the most well known voice actor out there...

Despite being called "Pinocchio: A True Story", the characters are actually based on Aleksey Nikolayevich Tolstoy's 1936 book "The Golden Key, or the Adventures of Buratino". Pauly Shore's performance here is sadly an example of why celebrity voice acting tends to get a bad rep. Which is worse in this case because Shore DOES have some experience voice acting as he voiced Bobby in "A Goofy Movie" and its sequel and he did a fine job there... though then again the character was basically designed with him in mind because he's a stoner.
@mightyfilm
@mightyfilm Жыл бұрын
Exactly. All he had to do as Bobby was his normal 90's movie schtick. Here he basically does his normal inflections, but with dialogue that doesn't work well with it. And they didn't so much as rewrite any of his dialogue to end with "Buh-UHHH-ddy."

@@ditzyhere3138 It's just a weird casting decision on both counts. Jon Heder does work as the horse, though. It feels like something in his wheelhouse, being goofy voiced, dorky character and all. The Disney pinocchio did the Pikachu tear thing MOSTLY because they did it in their Tangled movie, with the use of the song and everything... except Tangled gived good explanation about why it would work, seeing it's all about her magic healing powers, where the pinocchio one, there no reason to focus on the song and we never introduce that Pinocchio could done this... hell, it's actually worst than with pikachu, because the pokemon movie at least do some forshadowing to prepare to this scene.

The girl with the blue hair makes me think of Malvina from Russian version of Pinocchio called-Adventures of Buratino(Golden Key). She had blue hair too tho in the animated movie(and story) she had escaped the circus and lived in a cottage and tried to teach Buratino manners and alphabet and stuff. She was a love interest to not for him but for Pierrot. And in Buratino his nose actually DOES NOT grow when he lies. and his behaviour is actually rewarded and he becomes a non-conformist. The story cut out A LOT from it's inspiration prob bc Tolstoy's book was written in 1930's so A LOT of the...19th century moralizing and outcomes would've been seen as way too harsh. Edit: It's got to do with terriblness of everything else but Bella's song is kinda nice. I mean it's nothing overly original...but it's ok.

Not brutal as original Pinocchio tale. And there’s a girl puppet named Malvina who has blue hair. She had a poodle Artemon and emo simp Pierro (I honestly love him the most). I guess Russian creator made this Bella girl have blue hair as a reference. But I don’t think she was originally Buratino love interest. She was just a elegant girl all about good manners and tried to teach him some. P.S. after that bit of useless info I want to thank you for the review it made me laugh and I haven’t laugh in a while.

If the tent canvas was treated with linseed oil to make it waterproof, it would indeed be extremely flammable but I don’t think the filmmakers know that.

I think what's so weird about this is that Pinocchio is already a barely connected, barely coherent story when you're trying to deal with the original tale. So there's plenty you could cut out or change, because so much isn't connected to anything else. And yet, they seem to have assembled the story beats seemingly at random? Like so much comes out of nowhere and just... happens? It's so strange.

Possible theory on why they changed the horse's name for the international version: "Tybalt" is a prominent character from Romeo and Juliet, so it's possible they wanted the name to be more SEO-friendly.

@@juliamavroidi8601 I know KZbin comment sections are of course the appropriate place for this debate, but I will not stand for this defamation. Tybalt’s only crime was trying to shelter his naive young cousin from someone he had every reason to believe would screw her over (in every sense). I mean even aside from family feud thing, Romeo was an older guy with an infamous reputation. Would YOU trust your cousin to a guy like that?

I have no idea why a horse can be compared to a violent antagonistic Romeo and Juliet given that the movie‘s Tybalt does not kill someone for the sake of upholding family honour.

You know, this isn't really a Pinocchio movie. It's based on a russian fairy tale, where the only similarity to Pinocchio is that a wooden doll comes to life. In russia this movie isn't even called Pinocchio.

What baffles me is that despite being a russian movie, this does not even try to base the story on the actual russian book "knockoff" of Pinocchio, called Buratino (also called The Golden Key in western translations). That'd have been actually interesting as opposed to what we got...
