Somewhat confused... Someone who is a citizen of a different country attends a US military academy and then goes back to his own country to serve in the military there? Am I missing something? Why would United States spend money and a place in our academies to educate a foreigner ? And is there no obligation to serve for years in the US military?
@asianhawk3033 жыл бұрын
It is with friendly countries only, consider it as an education, or more like a exchange program between military schools, around the globe, open to all, like Harvard etc but prestigious. Difference only being, west point you are taught much more than university level education, you get skilled in combat, tactics and strategies. It is useful both when serving military, or after leaving military.
@plucas93243 жыл бұрын
@@asianhawk303 Do they pay full tuition? Since clearly they're not serving in our military.
@asianhawk3033 жыл бұрын
@@plucas9324 see dude, it works like this, if you are a foreigner and want to go to West point, then first you have to enroll in military in your respective country, and if your country has a military treaty signed with U.S military, then student can be send from your country to West point. So, it will be like this let's say you have joined military, then you have to go through training first and will be send to a military school, were let's say it's a 2 year training for eg. So it would be like one year you would be in your country and final year you would be send to West point for final year, for completion and would get degree from both west point and your respective military school. Only best students are selected to be sent to West point, so you need to be a top candidate in your military school, both study and practical, then you could be given an offer to go to west point. All the expenses will be borne by your own military, and not you, so just you have to study and train well every bit hard in west point and gain experience so that when you return you can be able to provide valuable insights to your own military to develop other cadets much better.
@plucas93243 жыл бұрын
@@asianhawk303 That was a very long answer, full of a lot of inaccurate information, to answer the simple question "Do they pay tuition?" "Yes" would have done it.
@merwinjakegarcia91742 жыл бұрын
@@plucas9324 your country also benefits in our country, why??? Simply they are called exchange students so if we are sending filipino cadets in west point, your country also is sending a student to study here ok? So change your mindset that filipinos are the only benefits in that trade.

Preferential treatment via government ... Politics play a role but they have to be at par or better when it comes to academics, GPA and maturity. Most of these Filipinos finished or under PMA (Philippine Military Academy- patterned similar to West Point) schooling and if their superior sees potential in them and with the correct credentials /proper political connections they usually apply. Usually they go back home and serve. There are some sort of agreement between US and Philippine government. I think some countrie also send their cadets to westpoint. Like cultural exchange
@Jogador966 жыл бұрын
Every year the PMA sends a freshman cadet to USMA. The topnotcher in the PMA entrance exam or top scorer in an exam to qualify for USMA I think. Upon graduation the cadet returns to serve in the Phil. Army and is usually on the fast track to become Chief of Staff or the first in his original PMA class to become a general.

@goodlife86284 жыл бұрын
You cannot be admitted to westpoint unless you're a Fil-Am and has recommendation. For Filipino aspirants who are residing in the Philippines, the only way is through the PMA, meaning you have to be admitted first to the academy as a cadet and in your first year or fourth class year the academy chooses from your class 2-3 cadets or maybe even less and some years none to be sent to westpoint through cadet exchange program of sort. From what I've heared in the PMA admission, the pool strictly must be coming from the top 10 of highest scorer of the entrance exam of the said class or batch.
