True, i want more multiplayer fps to have the movement like titanfall 2, the freedom of movement is just jam. But that wont be pleasant for the low filthy casuals that cry at any high skill technique that separate normal and good players and corporate greed wont be happy if their stock go down. It suck but thats the modern trend for fps now, overly competitive unfun meta abuse circle.

Akshually, it's not out of bounds. Just outside of the intended playable area. 🤓🤓🤓 OOB is the black void where you can't even move. But yeah, technicalities aside, it is surprising indeed.

@@namesurname7665 "Out of bounds" refers to escaping the intended playable area, it's the same thing. The black void is any area where you don't have geometry, including the spaces under and outside the map which Pinsplash enters a lot in this video (1:00 for example).

@@peacemaster8117 his confusion comes from how the definition kind of varies and is wiggled a bit from game to game for speedrunning purposes. for certain games, speedrunners consider certain areas where you're in a spot where you're clearly intended not to be at still "in bounds" while in other games a similar location may not be considered in bounds. this definition is wiggled a bit for certain games because it just makes a "no glitches" speedrun way more interesting.

Whenever they try to fix bugs, it just creates more. In an attempt to fix bhopping, they introduced ABH, ASH, and AFH, which are arguably 10x more OP

This game is very resilient to softlocking with things like how determined the vehicles are to fall the right way up but that just means players have to try harder!

The minecart softlock at 8:15 may be the most problematic one because I can see that happening to a player just messing around. The other problematic one was in that secret vortigaunt area at 4:04. Since you’re still in-bounds, getting stuck there could be considered a lack of forethought...maybe. The extra health was clearly there for getting back and not as a bonus, since you lose it heading back anyway. Also, you'd have to be crazy to venture into that tunnel in the first place and expect to get back safely. The ravenholm ones seemed easier to pull off, especially 7:31, but overall, 99.9999% of players shouldn’t experience any problems. Well done designers!

The best way to fix the secret vortigaunt softlock would be to give the vort the ability to heal the player. They already have an animation for giving suit power.

underneath the scrapyard isnt technically a softlock because you can grab a barrel from under the ground and toss it over then prop climb back up

Huh, I knew the game was easy to break out of, but I never thought it was that obvious and easy. I suppose in some way it's a testament to valve's own confidence in their design given most people never found these easy to escape areas

In Follow Freeman if you shoot a painting in the ceiling turrets room to trigger the turrets you simply get locked out of the room forever - Probably the easiest softlock in the game, I guess VALVe should've made a timer for the room to reset after a minute. If you blow yourself up to escape the turret room without disabling the turrets you also get soft-locked for pretty much the same reason.

I found one, but I'm not sure if this can be called softlock. When the Poison Zombie grabs the headcrab before throwing it, stand on its back. The Poison Headcrab will bite you and you will be stuck in one place. Killing the Zombie will free you. *remark: killing the headcrab (sometimes become invisible)

Half Life 2 is fun to play in the intended way but also fun to break. I wish more games were like this :( The quicksave system is also amazing. Even if a normal player somehow runs into a softlock, because there are enough autosaves and because manual and quick saves don't overwrite autosaves, it's basically impossible for a normal player to ever lose progress. I find myself questioning whether some of these are softlocks because it's so easy to get out of them, but yeah, they are: a softlock = you can't get out without loading a save (and would be screwed if you don't have a save). (Although IMO 1:38 is a bit ambiguous: you could still escape without a save if you die, but then you still have to load a save to retain your progress. But then since dying is not itself a softlock, a situation where you can die should also not be a softlock… I'm not sure.)

It really is a bummer that like 90% of these are just "prop jump out of map and then tuck yourself into some corner". I get the point of the video and all that but I was expecting creative ways to get stuck or just learning something, so when most of these are just "use the same glitch to go out of bounds" it just isn't interesting anymore, because I haven't really learned anything or found any new interesting thing, instead it's just "obviously you will get stuck out of bounds if you go somewhere you aren't supposed to go." It would've been nice to see a complete compilation of ways to get stuck without the prop jump glitch though, instead of one for every single map. The videos would've been shorter but at least it wouldn't just be a compilation of you prop jumping out of every map

I’m not sure if this is the best way but I just bind Jump to mouse wheel up and down and spam pick up and scroll wheel while looking down with a item also for accelerated back hop I jump while sprinting and turn around and crouch mid air and scroll mouse wheel up and down. hope this helps

Softlocks are only escapable by restarting the game or loading a previous save. This is not the case for the 1st map (die to drowning), 3rd map (die to gunship), and the 8th map (die to goo (quicksave will always spawn you outside of the tunnel)). Also, in a few clips where you are trapped, you could still escape via death with spare grenades. I think there are a couple ways you can turn these into actual softlocks, but the proper setup isn't demonstrated in the video. In the 1st map, do the same thing but standing in a more shallow part of the water. The 3rd map can be made into a true softlock by guiding the gunship to a future part of the level, and going back to the area in the video. The 8th map can be truly softlocked by doing what you did in the video, but filling up the saved states catalogue with manual saves. Also, if you have grenades then it likely isn't a true softlock since you can just die to them. If you want to know more just reply to this comment and I can clarify anything.

I like the videos, but I'm just not understanding the content. You just get out of bounds and say it's a softlock? Like you might as well noclip out of the map and say "I'm softlocked ¯\_(ツ)_/¯" It's cool how many maps you can get out of though, I enjoy watching your videos, but I was just genuinely curious about what is meant by "softlock" in the title.

I think, in this case, a "softlock" is any scenario where you cannot progress without dying, restarting, or cheating. I'd personally like to see more soft locks that can be achieved _without_ going out of bounds- things like standing in front of the door in d1_trainstation_01 so it doesn't open. Those are far more interesting than just going out of bounds, in my opinion.

@@griddori Like all of Pinsplash's videos, these are novel details to Half-Life 2 die-hards. It's interesting to know that a player can softlock themselves by grenading the airboat over a wall, for example. Not everyone knows that.

I would like to see more unique ways of softlocking over just getting out of the map and being stuck without using the console. If I remember correctly he said he uses softlock as a broad term, but this is pretty much a "areas you can get out of bounds" video
