training staff in "happy thoughts" as their third skill is extremely useful when you, for instance, may have an objective to increase average staff happiness and you can't afford to be permanently raising everyone's wages every few years

I love when my level 4+ security janitors still fail to catch the invaders, meanwhile, my level 1 janitors are over there, sending them back super easy. This randomness is so annoying, especially when you start getting 9+ invaders

I found that it was beneficial to have one janitor lvl 6 in security and a couple level 1. If you prefer to micromanage. The lvl 1's can distract and then you can pick move the lvl 6 to each one and always one shot them. This works because the animation is longer than the task so they actually clear it really quick and can move to the next before another invader can cause mischief.

Would you mind making a video about how you set up the layout of your campus? For example, do you have specific buildings for specific purposes (i.e. dorms, lecture halls & labs, entertainment & study halls, etc.) or do you just pepper one of each room throughout each building or is it somewhere in between. That seems to be what I am struggling the most with at the moment, trying to make a campus that feels real while also having it be somewhat efficient for students and staff. Love the videos thus far!

He has talked about timetabling, class size efficacy and stuff, but there were known bugs with it, so he was waiting on a patch before he dug into that topic. Dunno if the recent patch fixed those issues... but I had students telling me library orientation was too far away... when they were right next to a library... and were walking to the other side of the campus to the other library for no apparent reason.

Note that when your janitors fail at fighting an invader, they mope for a bit before they reengage and look for another invader. But if you pick up that janitor and place it right back down, it instantly reengages. This prevents the invader from moving further into your building and reinitiates a fight right away. By doing this, even a level 1 security janitor can eventually wear down a higher level invader and defeat him. Also note that sometimes the invaders are difficult to spot. If you hold your security janitor in the area and position it for a second or two above a crowd, the game tells you if there is an invader close by. If so, you just place the janitor and it fights. If not, keep holding the janitor up and moving it to a new spot and hold it "still" there for a second and the game will tell you if there is an invader there.

Excellent video as always. Great archetypes and delivery. I just have a question. I'm working my way through Spiffinmore. How would you train teachers and janitors, considering there is a staff happiness requirement? Is it worthwhile to train them in Happy Thoughts, and if so what skill is worth sacrificing for it?
@TheEternalVortex422 жыл бұрын
You can wait until that's the only requirement you need, then just max everyone's wages at once.

In the "Tips and tricks" guide by Freiya on Steam, it notes that Comic Timing "doesn't seem to trigger in the library at all when an assistant has it." Since you test things so thoroughly, I was wondering if you could confirm that it does in fact trigger in the library?
@Arashi0092 жыл бұрын
Do the staff expect higher wages once they are trained or can the player get away with cheaper wages by training vs hiring? If trained staff expect their wages to be more or less on par with staff that are hired directly then it seems that the player might as well just cycle through the hire list most of the time.
@gwahli96202 жыл бұрын
Expected wages are relative to skill level indeed - regardless where those come from. Thus you can just hire and fire though there is a fee for that too. I try to aim for personnel with desired untrainable traits like "iron bladder" and the like and no detrimental traits. The importance of those traits varies between different jobs of course. Pinstar might make a video about these traits even.
@freddiekeen10192 жыл бұрын
Hey Pinstar, great vid. I notice you didn't mention salary increases in all of this. Given wages is like the main outgoing fee, do you think its always beneficial to be leveling staff or will there be roles that just don't pay it back in happiness/learning boost etc?
@rodh14042 жыл бұрын
Personally, I find that the first couple of years are the most difficult financially, and that's when staff wages are at their lowest. After that the money starts rolling in even though I have more staff who are demanding higher wages, so leveling them up usually isn't an issue for me. That said, I have used Money Wrangling or Archaeology to boost the income of my campuses, and they help generate ridiculous amounts of money.

So is it not worth filling in the last spot for assistants? I tend to put aerodynamics on the assistants that I dont have working at a library cause they tend to work at random spots that can be further away. And on my librarians I put happy thoughts to keep their happiness up. Wondering if that is worth it.
@runaravenscraft53142 жыл бұрын
definitely in the long run, as you can get end-of-year rewards for most satisfied staff . and you can save (a lot of) extra cash from not having to raise their wages so much

although this way at least you can schedule training for all your staff at one go - with the various levels and types - and they'll just wander off to get it in order.

Have you tested how much Happy Thoughts can lead to a lower salary expectation and save money on salary overall? I had a janitor recruit with 7 levels of only Happy Thoughts that was $250 per year cheaper than a janitor recruit with 1 level of security.
@Pinstar2 жыл бұрын
In order to really capitalize on happy thoughts, you need to make sure their pay is never increased. The main point of the skill is to allow you to keep training a person up higher but never increasing their pay to match the new skills. Unfortunately, when you hire someone with happy thoughts, their starting pay already reflects their skills. The other issue is, and I need to test this further, it seems you can largely get away with not raising salaries when training employees, even without the happy thoughts skill as long as they are happy with everything else (needs/environment etc)

In respect to tuition training, is this really only useful to teachers trained in 2 courses? On the surface it reads as if it will just additively increase the teaching say from 70% to 75% thus only giving value to multidisciplinary teachers for the 5% boost to each. If there is some separate functionality it would be nice to know. Otherwise it IS simply for dual trained teachers. So far I have single classed 5/6 of the maps that I've cleared.
@baschmii2 жыл бұрын
One question regarding this though, I am always scheduling my teachers for training, however they are too busy with all the classes going on to actually attend the training. How do I solve this problem? Do I hire an extra teacher to reduce the workload and they have time for training or is there another solution?
@Pinstar2 жыл бұрын
Hiring an extra teacher is the best solution. You can chain-train the teacher then either chain train another, or fire the untrained extra.

If they are private tutors ( can help students from both subjects) or researchers ( can research things from either subject) yes. Otherwise you are paying for extra skills that will never be used simultaneously. More skills = higher salary demand.
