It hit me in prayer that I must be more merciful with my boys as God is merciful with me. I broke down into tears knowing that fatherhood is not only justice and law. But love through mercy. Then this video comes up. It is a phenomenal idea. My wife and I will pick a Jubelee day and pray for our children ahead of time so that the holy spirit helps them prepare for it.

Parenting is about learning to love unconditionally as Jesus does with us ! I've learned it recently when my oldest child did something bad , something so unlike him( something that implied lying to us for almost a year ) . I clearly heard Jesus telling me Love him anyway . That's what I did . I 've prayed a lot the Holy Spirit to guide me and it worked so well . 8 months after our relationship is as trustful as it used to be before . " Be merciful just as your Father is merciful " . 🙏🙏

A careful man I ought to be, A little fellow follows me. I dare not go astray, For fear he'll go the self-same way. I cannot once escape his eyes, Whatever he see me do, he tries. Like me, he says, he's going to be, The little chap who follows me. He thinks that I am good and fine, Believes in every word of mine. The base in me he must not see, That little fellow who follows me. I must remember as I go, Thru summers' sun and winters' snow. I am building for the years to be, This little chap who follows me.

We have 7 kids all have turned out well but we had trouble with them around 14 I knew that they were becoming adults and becoming independent so I had a serious talk with each one at that time and said you are now responsible for your own decision but always remember there are consequences with what you decide to do and then I let go, and prayed ❤️🙏🏻

Great conversation ! God has the biggest dysfunctional family . Mankind. So we are not alone in the struggle . The devil waged war against every sacred good , God has. That’s the family. Parenting is tough, not for the slightest coward. There are things you can control and things beyond your grasp but always give your children fully to God and pray for the best.

He was so relieved and follows up with the Sacrament of confession and it has been really a beautiful thing.

It’s amazing how all these examples show how attachment is completely God’s design. How He is with us through our hard feelings/moments and we are asked to be with our children through their hard feelings/moments. Also, how even though parenting/marriage/family can be so unbelievably hard-it continually calls us to be more saint like, humble, reflective and loving.

I love this idea, but I'm worried about implementing it some day when I have kids. Are there ever times when a child confesses something, but absolutely needs to still be punished? Or what if it's a situation where the kid needs to remedy the chaos they have caused, but they feel that it would be hard or embarrassing for them to fix it (like if they need to confess to a teacher that they cheated on a test)? Would it be punishment for me to make them fix it?
@whitevortex8323
@whitevortex8323 10 ай бұрын
well I think Scott Hahn's basis is that they are never punished since it is supposed to be an imitation of God the father. Remember the parable with a man who owed a great debt and did not forgive someone who was indebted to him. Maybe, there are other ways not so extreme to remedy it, like doing some act of penance, perhaps restitution can be like giving to charity or smth or in the case you propose, helping fellow students, and making a firm resolution not to do it again. I don't know, I don't advise doing it if there isn't mercy in the absolute sense, at least I wouldn't go to confession, if I thought one day I could commit a sin so heinous that the priest might spill it to the court or whoever.

@carisahimes512

I think it depends on the severity of the deed. For example, if they cheat on a test or steal, they should have to make reparations and face the consequences. If not punishing them. It's teaching them to be accountable for their actions.

What kids need to be good is humility, charity, and compassion, they also need to grow up surrounded by a loving community of people who share a culture..... unfortunately you're not gonna get any of these things in the USA, unless you lock yourself up in some kind of locked down isolated place which is a terrible way to raise kids. My advice: move to rural Europe where strong interconnected communities are still flourishing within western culture, and with great social services and excellent schools, and very little crime compared to the US.
