I’m a big fan of St. Joan of Arc too, and a great book on her rehabilitation is Regine Pernoud’s “The Retrial of Joan of Arc.” The king opened up a rehabilitation trial 25 years after her death and called witnesses of people who fought with her, grew up with her, etc. it was this retrial that got the truth out of her amazing holiness and purity, and opened the way (ultimately) for her canonization. It’s a very good read!

This was special. Thank you! My daughter (young adult) just went to Paris. I am thankful that you talk about some of the special Holy places. I actually asked my daughter to go to the church where Catherine du Laburé is, and asked her to please buy a Miraculous medal in gold! So sorry that Cameron didn't finish her story regarding when she herself bought one Miraculous medal there herself, it was very special for me to hear this. How the Holy Ghost works is just beyond words. I filmed Cameron in that part when she shows her gold Miraculous medal and starts telling the story where she bought it. I am sending it to my daughter today, Wed. 29th of December 2021. Pray that she buys the medal for herself (I am giving it to her for her birthday the 16th of January). Please pray for my daughter, that she converts to Catholicism, and that she is protected, that would mean so much for me. Thank you. God bless you Matt and Cameron and your children.

So there is a female version of Exodus 90, called Magnify 90. My old church did a pilot group last year. It’s not as extreme as Exodus 90 but it’s more geared towards things women struggle with. Things like snacks, alcohol, appearances, buying unnecessary items and products, praying and leaning more into Mary, etc. There is also a version for pregnant and breastfeeding women as well.

I love Matt's comments about wanting to get rid of the car or not use it anymore. Electric scooters and e-bikes are becoming more commonplace, lightweight, and easy to use. Some electric bicycles can go 100 miles on a charge and have cargo space for groceries, or extra seating for children. Life is so much better and more meaningful when you can slow down and experience it directly, and not watch it pass by through a windshield, which just feels removed from life, like one more screen separated from reality.

"I'm more aware of things that other people aren't aware of" - you know, Matt, sometimes I feel exaclty the same. And I am not bragging myself either - I just look at myself as I was on the outside and think that perhaps God made some of us more sensitive to some issues than others. It's like a call or a gift to prevent us all to go "down the road" - But definitely I feel that way. Regarding your smartphone "thing", my husband is the same. He has a small Nokia, with keys (I just told him about your wisephone!). I do love a quote atributted to Chersterton: Every season is saved by a small handful of men who have the courage not to be current. Much love from Portugal :)

Proposal for Matt: If you want to do what's hard, maybe do what's hard for _you_ and go only partially in, rather than all-in, to certain practices. (E.g. limited car use.) With all respect and only mentioning because I think you might find it interesting to reflect on too: It was interesting to hear you switch from talking about how men have it too easy these days and need to embrace more challenges, to saying you'd rather undertake an all-in version of discipline than a moderate version of discipline because the all-in version is "easier." Maybe your next area of growth in terms of discipline could be in learning to do what's more challenging for you -- which is to undertake a discipline in moderation, rather than all-in. (I'm speaking as someone inclined to "all-in" approaches myself. While yes, it's easier to commit to total abstinence from something than from partial exposure to it (because partial exposure tempts our weak wills to excess), I'm trying to grow in taking more moderate approaches that prioritize balance in the here and now, every day. It might not seem as 'impressive' on the outside -- but God, and I, know what it costs me to try to align with the balance point between extremes, to try to prudently navigate the different priorities at play.) Anyway, again. Just offering this thought with respect, for whatever it's worth. Appreciate your work and earnestness, and I love listening to you and your wife chat!

The quick reflection that might help your kids embrace dressing nice for Mass is that our exterior appearance reflects our interior disposition. It's most important that we prepare our interior to receive our blessed Lord. As we go along and grow, our exterior begins to reflect our interior piety. It is good for the two to be congruent. I've explained this to my husband and five older kids. And it seems to resonate with them. My two littlest children are too young to understand still. But I know they will catch on. Much love.

In Switzerland church and state in most cantons are more intertwined, like the state employs the priests and pays them - same goes for the bishops. So when Covid hit, the churches had to follow the states rules and we couldn’t go to Mass for 3 months. Was a hard time…and bishops proclaimed that Sunday obligation was suspended for that period of time

The discussion about church attire...such a great one! I look at it this way: yes God loves us no matter what we wear, but it's a sign of our love and respect for HIM that we dress up for Mass. If you were going to go to meet royalty, or some other world leader, or the Pope, you would probably dress up out of respect for that individual. Should we not have infinitely more respect for GOD than for any human head of state? If you dress up to go on a date, or to go to the theater, or for a nice family dinner, is it really that hard to also dress up to go to church? Obviously there still might be some education needed on what sort of "dressed up" attire is appropriate, but I don't understand the general concept of being opposed to dressing up for church. And of course I'm not talking about someone being unable to afford expensive clothes - dressing up just means the best you can do with what you have (and there is a lot of pretty affordable "church" clothing to be found in many places, even Goodwill or other thrift shops).

Cameron was absolutely right about Canada, only bummer is that it's not that they were just TRYING to shut down the Church's, but they DID for some time. I don't remember how long they were supposed to be shut down for as at the time I was still away from my faith, but my Mom had to deal with it all of that. The Catholic Church in my town didn't stay closed as long as they were supposed to, and started doing the mass in the parking lot, but they still went a few months without mass which is super sad. I'm just glad things opened up more for a while before my Mom got sick with cancer. She never got to see the day where the mask rule was lifted as she was too sick to go to Church by that point. Unfortunately I was forced to get the jab, because once my Mom was too sick with her cancer, I was the only one in the position to see my Dad as he was in a care home for his dementia, and without the stupid jab it meant not being able to see my Dad which if I didn't get the jab I wouldn't have seen him alive ever again, and already wasn't allowed to see him for a year prior to the vaccine coming out. Ultimately, I want to leave Canada. I don't like this country anymore, and since both my parents were foreigners to the country I don't have any strong connection to this land. While the US has its issues too, I'm thinking about moving there since I have duo citizenship, and I'd like to move to a state that has a reasonable Catholic population. I'll never meet a Catholic woman where I live anyways.
