It’s interesting though that in a way he was correct, the substance of both a magnet and iron comes from elemental fusion in a Star’s core.

One cannot fully understand the meaning of the 7 sacraments, the 7 sins, 7 mansions of interior castle and many others realities of christian faith, if doesn't understand the cosmic sphere symbolgy. Theology deals ultimately with things we can´t see, and therefore the symbolic approach is the most proper way to express these realities. Just remember: "The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands."

The theory about people being more active when a full moon is out due to the light carries merit. I was told by a police officer that they patrol the beaches of our town during most full moons as that’s when they’ve found criminals have been more likely to burgle from the beach huts there!

I agree. Things get weird on full moon. Don’t know why. But, as a woman, if our menstrual cycles are affected by the lunar cycle... I mean, that alone is saying something. What if this legend comes from men being more likely to be out of the house to get away from their hormonal wives or something? 😂 There could be all sorts of explanations. But through one correlation or another, for whatever reason, the lunar cycle and other cycles (seasons etc) seem to have some influence on things down here. Murder rates go up around Christmas and summer time. Researchers have suggested it’s due to holiday season during Christmas, and the increased heat during summer. Could be! Is it a coincidence that they peak and cluster around the solstices? Could be. Who knows!

It is important that the premodern world did ascribe such significance to astrology because it makes dating historically significant events much more precise. So while the omens off the stars may not have been important, their documentation was incredibly important for our understanding of history.

Before I came to Christianity I did notice peculiar links between my own habits and the phases of the moon. After this I followed a lunar astrologer and found an undue level of accuracy. Definitely non-random. It was one of the first strings to tug at as a scientist that showed something was going on that my fellow skeptics dismissed but I wouldn't necessarily call supernatural. Rather, I think the overall motion of our universe and galaxy and solar system simply does have more subtle effects on mood than we think as scientists. We already know that they do but the other thing to consider is that perhaps as factors influencing personal development complexify, these effects of astrological proportions diminish too. Anyway, I came across more evidence of the supernatural, God communicated with me, God told me the Bible was His word, and I stepped awaaay from the astrology. But it works and God made it. I just think we have to be careful about what power we seek to employ over nature that God did not tell us. It can get prideful and even idolatrous. I would like to know if this verse has any bearing on that side of things or is it just for the obvious. Then God said, “Let lights in the expanse of the sky be for separating the day from the night. They will be for signs and for seasons and for days and years. Genesis 1:14 TLV

James Randi, among many others, has already demonstrated that astrology is absurd: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aXXTY42noJ2pftk&ab_channel=hocobo There is no evidence that astrology actually is real, and there is plenty of evidence that suggests that astrology can be practiced by people who claim that astronomy is not real, like a stage magician. For that reason, any person with any reasonable amount of skepticism should reject astrology as the pseudoscience it is.

@@kevinoconnor3859 Yeah I was at several TAMs and QEDs. I've never been afraid to follow the evidence regardless of emotions, convenience etc. I wish all skeptics actually lived up to their own standards but too many just spout arguments from authority. Try putting your own life on the line in your search for truth and we'll talk. But take my advice and fact check everything. When you spot a few lies (see Jesus mythicism for example) then you'll start to lift the veil. Many of the best scientific minds accept the supernatural for good reason. Nature cannot create itself.

@@colmwhateveryoulike3240 I'm not sure what Jesus Mythicism or the supernatural have to do with astrology. I'm not trying to argue in favor of either of those propositions, I am trying to argue that astrology is demonstrably absurd. Here is an scientific journal article from the University of Chicago: www.journals.uchicago.edu/doi/pdf/10.1086/psaprocbienmeetp.1978.1.192639 Here is an article from Berkley: undsci.berkeley.edu/article/astrology_checklist Both conclude that astrology is pseudoscience. Do you have any scientific journal articles, or any compelling pieces of evidence to prove that astrology is True? Or are you relying on personal experience and anecdotes?

@@kevinoconnor3859 As I said, I was familiar with those arguments beforehand. I first heard of astrology via skepticism. And yes, what I experienced was not explicable via that model. It was too non-random. Now I'm simply talking about the moon, which is an obvious and readily-observable phenomenon. The only reason I started paying attention was because of the uncanny frequency with which I noticed my own behaviour coinciding with lunar phases. Friends in the field of mental health corroborated that the behaviours of their residential clients in psychiatric hospitals would very clearly act much differently at full moons. Then I put some lunar astrologists to the test and sometimes I would preread predictions and sometimes I would read them in hindsight after making my own remarks about my moods in each period. It was too accurate to be random. I am a scientist and my innate scepticism makes me stubbornly unwilling to jump to conclusions but over periods of years clear patterns of evidence do emerge. People are too complex to be very predictable by such patterns but it is undeniable that we are still in motion according to largescale patterns of cause and effect so a certain base-rhythm isn't as unlikely as sceptics claim just because we are not in the locality of planetary bodies. As a biologist I learned about several organisms with extreme rhythms based on the moon so it would not surprise me if the lunar astrology is far more readily assessed. It was all in the format of emotional regulation. But to be honest, knowing what I discovered since then, I would direct anyone seeking the supernatural to begin by seeking out truth/love itself, which IS a single entity that defines all natural reality and meaning and is a person who answers back those who seek with all their hearts and are willing to go beyond the subset of objective scientific realities authorities agree on at any one time. Forget astrology. If you can sense truth itself or love (that thing we use those words to describe that "connects all the parts/dots/people") then you are sensing God and God will do the loving thing and reveal the truth you need in exactly the way you need it. Then you can experience all the proof none of us can figure out on our own. Others will call it subjective as if that's a bad thing rather than exactly what you should expect from the deepest level of existential truth. Words are just signposts. Life is for following signs. ;)

+$0.02 While I can acknowledge the possibility of a causal relationship by the moon on a given human being's psychological state, since there is manifestly a mechanism for such an influence as demonstrated by the tides, it seems improbable that any such natural explanation could be possible on such a scale as the interplanetary, let alone the interstellar, contrary to what these comments appear to insinuate. ...Sorry for the long sentences, but I don't really know you and therefore can't tell if a flat denial of the general claims of astrology, whatever they are, would merely "turn you off" (as the kids say), which outcome I intend to avoid.

Regulus = Star of Raphael. Fomalhaut = Star of Gabriel. Aldebaran = Star of Michael. Antares = Star of Oriel. The closest thing to God in astrology is the Galactic Center. Guess whose Sun is on the Galactic Center? Yes, it's Pope Francis. I rest my case.

As far as I could tell, Jimmy Akin was only representing what Aquinas believed, he was not actually describing what he believed, right? I sure hope that Akin does not believe in astrology, which is probably the most easily disproven "sciences". The first section of the Wikipedia page on astrology says as much: Following the end of the 19th century and the wide-scale adoption of the scientific method, researchers have successfully challenged astrology on both theoretical[8]:249;[9] and experimental grounds,[10][11] and have shown it to have no scientific validity or explanatory power.[6] Astrology thus lost its academic and theoretical standing, and common belief in it has largely declined.[12] While polls have demonstrated that approximately one quarter of American, British, and Canadian people say they continue to believe that star- and planet-positions affect their lives,[13] astrology is now recognized as a pseudoscience[14][15] - a belief which its advocates incorrectly present as scientific.[4][16][17][18] Check Wikipedia's sources if you don't trust Wikipedia. Those sources count the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy and studies from the Astronomical Society of the Pacific, among many many others .
