The Pinz did pull a Defender out of the mud yesterday, as well as a bobtailed Disco and a Vauxhall Frontera (at the AWDC drive round, Slab Common 26-06-2011)

Where was this "near disaster" again?. I didn't see anything that a pinz isn't designed for. I've had mine it many worse situations, and it doesn't even know that it's not pavement. Oh, and only the 6x6 712s and 718s more frequently came with winches. They are heavier and service critical...like ambulances, radio trucks, fire rescue etc. the 4x4s don't come with a winch for a reason. They are designed to not get stuck. If you do...well then good job.

I didn't get many views with the original video title so changed it. A bit of hyperbole and the view count shot up! As you say, they're so capable off-road that it becomes almost boring at times. Wish it was still working but she's sat in the barn awaiting repair and has done for several years now :-(

It's a Pinzgauer engine! An air cooled flat 4 petrol (gas) engine - made by Steyr Puch specifically for the vehicle

Pinzgauer has inline four petrol engine,Halfinger has flat two engine!

That sloshing about in there completely wore away the silver coating and I had to get new headlights!

in austria you get them for around 20k -25k euros in pretty good condition

You can get them here in the US from some importers. Swiss army vehicles is a big one for them. They range from private seller of about 10k USD to 25k USD at an importers lot.
