So nice to work on a player that has so much space in it! FYI for anyone who also has a Pioneer multidisc LD player, there are actually a total of 4 belts that make it work. A loading belt (PEB1013), an optics belt (VEB1077), and two disc change mechanism belts (DEB1104). All 4 are available on eBay and can be found by searching those model numbers.

It was very cool to display this one. I've always been intrigued by how 5 disc players might work!

I do particularly love this machine now as I had my CLD-M90 modified almost two years ago w/ an AC3-RF Output and Coax/Optical PCM Output (so three holes punched out on the back panel) and it turned out great. It was my first new mod in 20 years (took a long break) so a lot pride went into it. And it's so cool to add this type of improvement since this player was always your basic run of the mill average stereo player but now it's a machine that can pass discrete audio in the form of Dolby Digital and DTS. Anyway, I did want to comment as well that changing the belt on this unit is even easier if you just remove the changer mechanism / clamper assembly as you'll now have even more access to the loading belt. Just thought I mention that since I do that also for all the auto reverse players I work on too.

No need to remove the clamp and risk damaging the ribbon cable. The belt is easily accessable. Why take more time to remove the screws then just reach in and change the belt.

Have one of these that I'd had just sitting on a shelf (got cheap at goodwill years ago).. Recently dug it out & tested as a CD player, works fine for that. (haven't tested a LD though) Nice to know the belt is easy to change if I eventually need to.

I usually replace belts with common neoprene O-rings . They work great and are easy to find. As long as it's not a flat belt like in low cost turntables they work great and often better than the original square or round belts . And i think even last longer.

One of my LD players is a CLD-59. I replaced the belt a few years back, and if I'm remembering correctly, all that was needed (other than taking the cover off) was to remove the tray (which just snaps in), since it covers up the pulleys. Swap the belt out, tray snaps back in.

Yeah... The CLD-59 and other models using the Epsilon Turn system had its loading belt buried under the tray (even in the un-loaded position) and next to a support post so they are harder to change. The Alpha Turn & Gamma Turn models have much easier access much like the M90 as well as other single side players.

Another great buy Dave, and for once a belt that is very easy to replace. A lot of players are a nightmare to get access to the belts, you often have to remove the tray and getting it back correctly is critical. Now is the time to buy players with a working laser, replacements are now old stock and i have wasted a lot of time and money on them, some work but not for long, some are just dead. Laserdisc still has plenty of life left, if you have working players.

@@12voltvids The market for laserdisc i think was bigger than some would have us believe. Even here in the UK working players are still being sold albeit in smaller numbers than a few years ago. You can find bundles of discs at low prices, the only issue is the shipping costs, and players are best collected, as i have found out the hard way.

I have a CLV-M301, similar design with the robotic arm. Upon powering on, the arm will spin 90 degrees then the gear that turns the arm gets beached on it's own PCB, then the mech finally stops after a few seconds of grinding. Question is, what is causing this to happen on Power ON? Perhaps are the microswitches in the arm itself buggered, or the motor. Just dying to know what is causing that behavior. Also, the tray gear alignment(s) are in the 'EJECTED' state.

Hello, I purchased a Pioneer CLD - M90 LD player off of eBay and unfortunately the tray does not close all the way. The unit literally has to be on it's back in order for the tray to close. The Off button on the display constantly blinks and there seems to be an issue with a part at the front end of the unit. I managed to get the cover off but have no idea what I am doing lol. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance..I wish I could post the vids of the issue I recorded.

I hope your laserdisc collection are not those succeptable to laser rot. Nice player! My Dad bought us a CED videodisk player. We have dozens of CED disks. Found out later CED disks deteriorate and get dust inside the plastic jacket. I wish he got the Laserdisks instead. Even though they were more expensive and had less titles available. (Or it seemed that way)

Didn't Pioneer have a 5 Disc CD/DVD & LD player at one point?
@MovieGuy846
@MovieGuy846 2 жыл бұрын
Nope. They had already stopped making the 5 CD / 1 LD players before the DVL units came out. Also, I can only imagine how more complicated a machine like that would be since they need the space for two laser pick-ups.

@@MovieGuy846 Pioneer had a 5 disc CD/DVD changer around the early 2000's, but I wasn't sure if they had one with a Laserdisc feature on it. They were wrapping up the LD player production when the 5 disc CD/DVD changer came out.
@MovieGuy846

@@troykir That’s true on top of the fact that many companies were already making the ubiquitous 5 disc carousel changer for CD so adding a DVD capability wasn’t all that complicated.

@@12voltvids I remember that model. The DVD portion had a separate loading tray that rolled out from the larger LD tray. That must have been their only DVD/ LD combination unit.

I have tried but have failed to decode the morse you had in your intro. I simply dont have the ears for it (not deaf, just an unskilled listener), even with using filters to remove extra noise I still find it hard to make out. I will keep trying however! Just wanted to let you know I heard it, stuck out like a sore thumb but I hear the dashes and not the dots thus my troubles. I was kinda hoping it would say CAT in order to piss off a certain commentor ;) But I dont think it is that based on what I thought I could make out. Someone else with ears able to distinguish the dots will get it I'm sure. I once knew morse as a kid but have forgotten much of it.

The M series were no doubt very fragile since there were so many more moving parts involved (even more than an auto reverse player). I don't personally think they are so bad but they need to be treated w/ extra care. My unit works great but I too got it from a person that didn't use it much for really anything.
