One good reason why I view your YT pages - the clarity of the videos. The camera is still and we can see the job at hand. Thumbs up WW!

Don't be afraid to sand down your new drive tire until it is the proper width.

Regarding wow/flutter - also check that the take-up torque isn't aggressively high, and that the back tension is not intermittent. If back tension is slightly 'sticky' this will also impact on wow and flutter. I know from my own experience.

I have seen this in the UK as CT-400 I think. Quite fancy this one.

These are nice decks and I think one of the cutest looking decks ever made. I have the UK version CTF400 which I found cosmetically minty and boxed about 8 years ago. PSU recap, belts and alignment. I like the internal build on this deck for what was a lower-middle end unit in the Pioneer range. The main belt is horrible and when it degrades - it degrades! Really sticky black goo that gets everywhere. These came onto market at the dawn of the metal tape era and were in truth not really metal capable. Pioneer marketed them as metal decks but the heads simply can't deliver the flux levels for metal so stick with premium type I & II. The one thing I dislike, in common with many decks, is the motor running constantly when the unit is powered. Better to have a sensor in the tape well. Could probably be modified as such.

I have Pioneer CT 760 and in this deck also motor keeps running when we power it on.Infact one small gear got broke down and I got the replacement also but I am not able to reassemble the mechanism again.I am not able to understand how to position cam wheel against the capstan wheel because some inter relation is there between the two as the capstan wheel would drive the cam wheel to a position to raise the head assembly and tape starts playing.I do not want to misjudge the positioning of the cam wheel and capstan roller wheel so that cassette door gets locked and that small gear breaks again.

Sometimes you just need to fix something reasonably simple to reset yourself, i just did the same

That Akai double deck looked so much more relaxing to work on than what I decided to fight this week that I'm kind of jealous. I need to find another easy one now.

@@Oklawolf i have my work cut out for me in the next weeks ! GX75 , GX95 and a JVC v711 , wanna trade ? 😎

Those Akai transports aren't too bad - just tedious. I actually enjoyed working on the A&D deck. You can keep the JVC... that's what I've been fighting (DD-99). I'm coming to hate those felt slip clutches in the reel tables of the JVCs.

Yes, a Tapehead also here, but you already know that I guess. ;o)

Before installing the new motor i would check why the voltage for the motor is so high. Most likely a transistor failed in the power circuit and caused the part in the motor board to blow.
@Oklawolf21 күн бұрын
The motor had a shorted winding.
@neverknowit1121 күн бұрын
I think the motor voltage should be around 6 volts D.C.

Service manual wants 14V in stop mode and 12.6V in play mode - it's a 12VDC motor.
