I used both the DDJ 400 and the DDJ 800. I highly recommend these controllers. They are great for starter DJs or those who want to take their skills to the next level!

ive had the sb3, 1000, then 400. I found the quality from the outputs of the 400 wasn't far-off the 1000. Obviously better on the 1000, but it wasn't that far off at all which was my main concern. I managed to map the loop buttons to get 10 (with shift) buttons that were missing, things like fx select, mt, range etc - as I don't use loop stuff and you can do it on the pads anyway. The fact the 400 is bus powered was a plus for me, the big - BIG downside - was the Pitch Fader on the 400. Really, its kinda crap and hard to use. Thats the only reasons I would go to an 800, personally I'm waiting for a battery powered version of the XDJ RX3, the only controller out similar at this point is the Denon DJ Prime Go, but there was far too many drawbacks to buy it (I want to stay Rekordbox ideally, it doesn't work with a laptop, tiny jogs etc), but that's what I'm holding out for a few years from now, all in one controllers with battery power - a normal size pitch fader, and the ability to work with a laptop if needed. The 800 is a great price for what it is, I recommend it to anyone - I've not used it but like I say I had the 1000 for 2 years and it looks the same and its just a case of wanting 4 or 2 channels really. The 400 does the same thing but really don't overlook the fact the pitch fader on the 800 is very good - it makes a huge difference over the 400. If you CAN put up with the 400's pitch fader - I think it's just as good as the 800, that's my opinion

Good, helpful video. i think the 400 is for me. Can't help but think the 800 is just a lot more money for an LCD display and a couple effects. 🤷‍♂️

wow couple effects. you are way off. 1st there's a reason why you pay more. 1 the pads are rgb. 2 mics the main thing is the audio quality the 800 is the same quality as. the 1000 there's is a dramatic difference because with a 400 which is a way lower sound quality than 800 plus its xlr capable. and the Aux these things that i mention is all screaming mobile Dj. i had the 1000 and took it back. nice controller but for mobile dj. the 800 is where its at for portability n size because no one talks about 2 am 3am or end of gig when it's time to pack up n go the extra weight of the 800 vs 1000 the 800 for me is where it at(my opinion). and trust me we as dj know its not the equipment that makes you good. but people who are not judge and trust me someone who has a 400 vs 800 800 on a different level than 400. so if a person can afford both (keyword afford both). start with the 800. no hate on 400. but if u cant get the 800. then get the 400 or sb3. either 1 of them is perfect for beginners

@@donaldccannon1 you are totally right about mobile djing. probably the features i love the most about my ddj 800 are the xlr connections, the mic inputs and the general build quality. when i am out and about i just need to setup my booth, plug my pa straight in to the 800 and i am ready to rock the party

They are both driving the same software (s) (Traktor & VDJ work with both as well as Rekordbox). The software does the work in regards to sound & soundquality etc. However, the quality of internal soundcard for external volume may differ. Then it's down to feel & look & what inputs you need. Obviously the 800 looks a little more jazzy & has club feel, ultimately the DDJ 400 does the same & does what you need. If you want to add extra inputs the 800 is the only one for you. If you're gigging with it the 800 is better due to outputs etc & soundcard 'may' be better for bigger venues. That said the DDJ 400 is ultra compact and portable as well keeping features. Can fit in a Technics record bag with laptop & phones. & If plugged into a club mixers line in will carry good enough & loud enough sound anyway. Some things like master/beat fx are all there but simplified on the 400 to button press over a rotary switch. Also the pitch is larger & has better resolution on 800. Still good enough on 400. Manual beatmixing technically better on 800. But there are ways to get that missing resolution on the 400. It's still very tight though. Like 128.52 vs. 128.54 closest on some. 400 Works like +-0.002. 800 works like +-0.001 Those that use sync, it's no different on either.

I’m a mobile Dj and went from the DDj SZ, then went to the DDj 1000 and now I want to downgrade to the DDj 800. Why you ask? I do a lot of mobile gigs so the smaller & lighter the better.

Couldn't agree with this more I've been DJing for over 20 years and, for the past 6 or 7 years, I used a DDJ SX. After already spending £450 on having it repaired once, the filter and EQ pots started to go again and I decided to buy a DDJ 800 over a 1000. Other DJs always asked "Why?!" and the answer is the same as yours...I wanted something lighter and more compact. I didn't use 4 channels enough to warrant a 4 channel mixer (the 800 can do 4 channels if required), but ultimately I wanted something that took up less space and was easier to carry.

@@tjw1715 I couldn’t be happier bro update- I now own the 800. I hardly ever used 4 channels so I’m happy , I might even consider going smaller if I find a controller with the same capabilities the 800 has. It’s about the Dj who performs well & earns a good living, I use to think it was the equipment that made a Dj good. I’ve seen average Dj’s with expensive equipment. The DDj 800 works for me.

I know I’m not the guy you are looking for to answer your question but in my opinion I would choose the DDJ 800 it’s more entry level than the XDJ RR. The XDJ RR is actually professional level, PLUS it’s really expensive. So- I think the 800 would be easier to use. I’m not a professional it’s just my personal opinion.

Hey Philip, I have been a DJ for 3 or 4 years and now i am going to invest in and 800 because i wont to improve and i think it is a good investment, i think when you wont to begin djing it is a verry big investment because the 800 is almost 800 euro and the 400 280 euro , i can promise you, the first years is a ddj 400 good enough and you can learn al the basics with it
