I have two Rev7's, one that goes to gigs, and one that stays home, so I have two of the OG bricks with the one that's at gigs, and the LVSun power adapter stays home for my home unit. This is, single handedly, the BIGGEST issue I have with Pioneer's controllers, especially after owning a Rane One before this, I legit thought "I'm gonna miss that IEC ain't I?' And ohhhhhhh man do I. Sorry to hear about your situation, but glad you had a homie come to the rescue with another controller.

I bought a Rev 7 last year around May...I just did my first gig with the thing in August off this year... Everytime I tried to use it something went wrong. Thankfully I have access to a DDJ SX2

As someone who always bought and used pioneer equipment dating back to the original CDJ1000s, and as someone who has recently been experiencing one equipment failure after another whether that be with my own gear or someone elses I'm done with pioneer. Whether it be a power brick failing or a full equipment failure in general I took the plunge and switched to rane, however I wouldn't call that a plunge. After rocking both the Rane Performer and the Rane4 for 3 to 5 nights a week for about a month now, I'm never looking back. I can't say the same for the Rev7 and others. I apologize but tons of the latest Pioneer build quality is unacceptable in my opinion. From platters malfunctioning to paint peeling to knobs and buttons breaking to plates lifting from the boards, that's just horrible. But the rane gear is built like tanks. Nothing but solid and dependable performance from both units. Rane all day for me.

Rane needs to come out with a Rane One MK 2 two channel mixer with motorized platters to get people to ditch those power bricks of Pioneer for IEC cable.

That backup adaptor reminds me of the stuff RadioShack used to sell back in the day lol. I have a backup adaptor similar to this for my DDJ-1000SRT but I’ve been gigging with my REV7 more often so this video is my reminder to get that backup. I have so much fun using my REV7 but the build quality is different. It feels like one drop and it’ll shatter

Love the controller, but agreed my upper plates were coming loose near the pitch slider and had to have them fixed by Pioneer. I did not have problems with the power block but don't trust it and now is the time to order one. The other thing I hate is the poor finish in the mixer section, paint or powder coat rubs off easily. However the controller is a beast and works and sounds great!

The external power unit is necessary to keep the rev7 size down. It also lowers the internal heat. You're correct about the build quality vs the selling price. My biggest fail point to the unit not being backlit. The text should light up to easily see in dark situations, especially for its price

This is one of the reasons I chose the Rev 5. It is USB-C powered and you can get a replacement cable in an emergency.

Really sucks. However, an IEC cable just means the brick is built inside the unit. They fail. Heat, voltage fluctuations, poor quality diodes and capacitors. Internal power supplies may be more reliable due to the shorter distance to the load, insulation, cooling fans, engineering and quality. External ones may be considered disposable because they are easy to replace. Internal ones usually don’t go down for years when they’re not operating in dusty environments. Someone should do a study…
@DJDUMusic3 ай бұрын
I have never seen an internal one go bad in my 40 year career. I have seen external cables go bad all the time and the problem is is that it's not easily replaceable when you're on the road getting ready to go on stage. I'll never use it again..
@chrismanikkam6444Ай бұрын
Thats why i prefer the Rane One.
@alexandrosroussos3 ай бұрын
Not sure what would be best. If the power brick was built-in, it could also fail and then you would need to have it repair it instead of buying another or using a spare power brick. So I would still recommend units with external power supply. Some controllers and even standalone mixers, including from Pioneer can be powered by USB-C, for me this is the best compromise as anyone can share you their phone charger in case of a failure, if you forgot it or lost it.

Always bring a backup, bro. I carry a Traktor S2 Mk2 with me wherever I go. I use Lexicon to keep the libraries between Rekordbox DJ, Serato DJ Pro, Traktor Pro, and Virtual DJ synced (I'm an A/V guy) so if something happens I can keep going almost immediately. Maybe buy a cheap used REV1 or FLX4 to keep with you.
@DJDUMusic3 ай бұрын
I use Lexion also because I use different software's. I should do a whole video on that. How do you like the S2 MK2 ? It works with Serato now so I was thinking about buying a little back up.. I have a Flex 4 already which I like

@IamMarkSmith3 ай бұрын
@@DJDUMusic I have been an S2 Mk2 user since 2014. For it's size and price range I feel it has better construction than the FLX4, but not by too much. The FLX4 is newer and has the advantage of its Bluetooth functionality for certain use cases, but in a pro setting that wouldn't necessarily be an advantage. My good friend has the S2 Mk3. I have used it and it is an improvement on what was an already well built controller. The only issue I have with the S2 Mk3 is that they removed the booth output. For around $300 the S2 Mk2 actually had a booth output! I know why they did that, but they should have kept it on the new model.

Sounds like a few issues here. 1: you didn’t test your equipment prior to leaving because if you did, you would’ve caught it beforehand. and 2: mishandling/storing of the power brick. I get it they’re cheap but unless you’re gigging this controller all the time, it shouldn’t have broke that easy.

That's the "Industry Standard" for you. Say what you will about Pioneer/Alpha Theta but their build quality is ass! Subpar plastic & glue. Plus they've adopted the Apple business model and once you're locked into their ecosystem it's a huge inconvenience to transition into another manufacturer & being that every venue is equipped with Pioneer gear, even if you wanted to transition into other gear the inconvenience only multiplies. It's electronics, no manufacturer is exempt from malfunctioning but damn....that being said, I've taken in the extra burden that comes with moving on to other gear which I won't even name because I'll just get branded as second rate bedroom DJ by all the fanboys.
