Күн бұрын

Pioneer DJ's DJM-V10 digital DJ mixer is the first in a new series of products, aimed at audiophile DJs and those with more complex mixing, routing and performing needs than average; the kind of DJs for whom the DJM-900NXS2, for instance, may seem a limiting choice, capable though that mixer is.
As such, it is Pioneer's answer to the mixers of Allen & Heath, and especially to the PlayDifferently ModelOne, offering a large array of inputs, outputs and routing options, giving an unprecedented level of control and myriad options for workflow customisation.
We take a deep dive into the DJM-V10 in this review.

12:34 - Mixer

I had the Pioneer DJM-1000: Pioneer's first 6 channel 24/32Bit Mixer that was $4,200.00, back in 2004. I worked double shifts for 6 months to purchase it. It was massive and the build quality has yet to be rivaled. The level of detail that went into the mixer was beyond impressive, the resistance channel faders, switchable channels, solidness of the mixer build, the isolator section... dear all that is unholy... talk about control with a great fee. For me, the mixer has always been my center point. The last decade of DJM's hasn't really impressed me. When I saw the V10, it got my attention immediately. I reluctantly traded in my DJM-1000 for the V10. The first few days, I felt I made a mistake waiting for the V10. Upon opening and playing the mixer... let's say, I have no regrets. Initially, I was completely overwhelmed. However, the layout with how everything is interlaced with the graphical squares separating each section, in matter of days, become intuitive. No, I haven't mastered the mixer. I just know what the buttons do "in theory". Beyond happy with my purchase. I will add, this does not look or feel like other Pioneer mixers.

wait wait wait, someone correct me if i'm wrong.... for a $3200 msrp mixer and you can't assign every channel it's own effect ? ......... A&H DB4 still has this option, yeah it's a 4 channel mixer instead of 6 and this mixer has 4 EQ's but the A&H DB4 can have isolation mode on the EQ's to compensate, what is really standing out many years later? I'm impressed with the look and options but to me, it looks like a Front House soundboard mini command center and not an evolution in the DJ realm.

Screen on this mixer is typical old 90 tech garbage. It worries me what next CDJ will look like. With this crap again when we have Denon now? I hope not. But this is really telling and disappointing already. Done commenting for today. Thanks. :) Cool ideas in this mixer but Pioneer is old corporation with Apple taste in pricing structure. Give as liitle as you can for as much as you can get form them. Waiting for 1000$ Laptop/mixer stand form Pioneer.

Have you actually played on the V10. When I bought mine, I immediately got rid of my X1800 as this mixer is at a whole other level and the way hetter sound quality, features and build quality more than justifies the price difference vs Denon. I kept my SC5000 as I do like those a lot and those players together with the V10, to me, is the best of both worlds.

As many people already mentioned I (as a listerner, not a DJ) am really afraid of that compressor. Technically it's a brilliant feature and for people that know how to use it right it'll give them a lot more freedom and make their life easier. But keep in mind that there are people out there that think a gain knob is volume control. So I'm a bit skeptical^^

Yeah, who needs a front house mixing board in a dj booth....that's literally all I see, and helping DJs setup is a nice feature but honestly how often are problems so dangerous so demanding that asking the guy on set to borrow his headphone jack to setup any issue? I mean leave it to the production manager to work out transitions of DJs, that's how the pros work. I'm curious who the product manager is on this mixer...the use cases seem to be for a very anti social djs who just wants to be left alone in and out of sets lol

The Xone 96 is almost half the price of this, so if you can buy a xone and some proper fx boxes youre still cheaper. I've got a Xone 96 and have no intention of switching, but this adds a the ability to do a lot of the things the Xone enables me to in often more intuitive ways, with some extra bells and whistles on top. Although I would miss the ability to route my external FX units through eachother (Delay>Reverb), I'd imagine just pairing one of my outboard units with the build-in Beat-FX would accomplish the same task. i mix stuff from many time periods and getting all the various tunes to sound ok together is tricky especially on my small system.I sometimes notice the lack of oomph when i try and mix and old tune fro the 60s next to something really modern.I might match beats ok but the 60s track can sometimes sound a bit weak.When recording a mix i can fix this a bit in post but its even more of a challenge live and its not just a case of volume but a duller less bright sound like the 60s tune is 480p and the up to date is 1080p or worse 4k if you get my meaning.

The send FX is great, but the filter doesn't seems really intuitive, as I heard, there's is no "0" point on it, so once it's on, it's on and you ear it, you can't let it on and play with it when needed (on A&H mixer it's the same but seems more light on the 0% position so it's still playable - but not really intuitive too). Also, it's great to have the possibility to put some pedal and FX and all that kind of external stuff, but it's sad that the crossfader part is limited in the setting. Those kind of mixer never have the same function as the S9, with crossfader/fader precise curve and tension adjust, they could put it on the front like on the S9, on in the screen menu, and that would open lot of possibility for turntable and live performance. Also not having a router build in, on that kind of high end level, especially on a 6 channel mixer... Hope they plan to have something with their future CDJ/XDJ line to compensate that, like a link in/link out to put player in serie and have your usb accesible on all player.

The zero point changes depending if you’re using hp or lp. They really should have on/off switches per channel because it looks like whatever you do on the filter is going to affect every channel so you really have to be careful especially if you’re playing on more than two channels. The problem is they’re copying the model one only halfway; if you want to encourage filter mixing you should implement it right.

john c I don’t think this is what’s really needed... yes, a new cdj would be nice, but the current ones perfect for their use, we reached a point where any “new innovation” just blinding the fools, like the ipads on the players... Yes, traktor crossover would be nice, but i think there’s limitations in the programming of the players, i’m sure traktor and rekordbox speak a different language. Streaming is another thing, in the world of copyrighting everything, it’s not that easy, or say “hey Mr. Music producer, you usually sell your tracks one by one, now it’s in a big music package, and you get some revenue after that... and we already have “that”’in another way, where you buy a song, and you can play it through your phone, but in my world it is just an emergency thing, i don’t know what is the problem with taking your time at home, prepare your tracks, saving loops, hot cues, tag them, and so on, it’s better than find these things in 3 mins, what you have between tracks.
@DjJohn.C
@DjJohn.C 4 жыл бұрын
@@benceujvari960 I actually agree with that, I'm totally not into the streaming service, I like the idea but you can't beat searching for music and setting it up in your software. As for the iPad screens yer a bit of a fad but being an older vinyl dj who's happily moved to laptop (traktor) it would be nice to move on from the laptop. But I love the laptop truthfully just seems a messy setup at some clubs between djs, dropping your usb in and away you go would be nice but I feel more in control with my laptop. One this I was thinking as I was writing this is - having a multi usb B input on club standard gear like a hub that way you could have more then 1 one laptop dj working at a time even if the 2 or 3 djs are using different software
@benceujvari960
@benceujvari960 4 жыл бұрын
john c This is almost what pioneer have, with built-in dvs in the mixer, and usb b on the back of the player, but this is for rekordbox, you can plug your computer in the mixer for dvs, or hid, and you can plug your laptop in the back one of the players, and if they connected with pro dj link, all players see your recordbox library, and you can have preview from your laptop on the mixer’s cue circuit. So if the players in the club connected to together, you can just use your usb a-usb b cable to connect in to the setup, it’s a great system, just not cross platform

Phil, I like the way you said "Rooter". I was thinking I have to buy this exotic piece of music gear to hook up my CDJ's to this beast? We pronounce it R -out-er here in the states. I'm joking of course, you're one of my heroes in the DJ and technology review sectors. I called up my one millionaire DJ friend (that I don't know) to check this out. After searching for his keys for 15 minutes in his 10 room mansion, we hopped in his Bugatti and drove to our local Guitar Center to pre-order this Mixing desk. incredibly, they laughed at us and told us..1. It's for DJ's and 2. No, we won't have this on the showroom floor or maybe never. I know, I couldn't believe it either. They also said no, we don't carry Rooters here. Unbelievable.

It is curious that there are these instruments, certainly excellent, with so many buttons and controls that perhaps a DJ will only use 10% of them in a console made up of 6 CDJs, 1 or 2 mixers, 2 laptops with traktor or serato, an FX, a groove box, all controlled via MIDI, USB cable, LAN cable and never before in this historical period has the music been so minimal, I would say spartan, it's just percussion with the bass at the limit of saturation, loop effects, some synthesizer with a few very low notes. But how did Tony Humpries, David Morales, Marshall Jefferson, Frankie Knuckles, Danny Tenaglia do it? All you needed was a 2-channel mixer with the microphone channel used as the third channel, a Roland TB 808, a couple of turntables, some chalk to mark the cue points, for the more technological DJs a simple Amiga PC or an 80386 with card Roland MPU-401 audio and this was enough to create unforgettable melodies! I don't think David Morales used a virtual DJ to create the space cowboy remix, he only had jamiroquai's voice and some analogue instruments

Pioneer makes an impressive piece of technology for the DJ industry. I however see some major problems coming to light with this board. And that is going to be the end user who iscgoing to create those problems. This board is definitely not designed for those amateur want to be D j's and it is geared for those who know how to lay down a great effect set with little to no distortion of the music. I can see D j's and other artists at festivals or at night ckubs completely and totally trashing their sets because they're trying to do too much at 1 time and this board has that capability to do so. On the plus side, I do really like how Pioneer lays out there mixing boards. It makes it very functional for those or at the advanced level and has been around this kind of technology for a long time.
