Pioneer PDR-555RW CD Recorder Repair - Part 1 of 2

Attempt to repair Pioneer PDR-555RW CD Recorder "Flashing CHECK" problem. Opened it up, did some troubleshooting, and removed SuperCap. I don't actually get it fixed on this first try, so be sure to watch the Part 2 video for what is hopefully the real fix.

I got this problem last week with my PDR555 when I kept recording beyond the capacity of the CDRW. Your procedure fixed the problem though I have not removed that round battery like thing. Thank you for sharing your experience. I will make sure that I don't record onto CDRW disk to full capacity. Thank you again,

Thanks for posting this! When I have a chance I will watch the whole thing. I have a PDR-509 and my issue appears to have been that the laser carrier had detached in front of the gear wheel. So far just winding it back in seems to have fixed the issue. :-)

Excellent Video' This also works for the Pioneer PDR-509 CD Recorder.... I had the same problem exactly like you Flashing " Check " message , I followed your steps on your video and now it is working better then ever ( No more Check ) message. I did not have to do the ( Part 2 ) of your video because the Pioneer PDR-509 did not have the ( Toc Switch S601 ) on that model, Easy !!!! Thanks again you saved me $$$$$$$ : )

Have to say the same as blues909, I have the PDR 509 recorder model, it had the same problem, the check flashing message. I was thinking of buying a new one until I saw this video, kept your steps and now is working perfectly. Thanks a lot.

Hi. Savior video here and you post as well in the diy forum. By the way where did you find the explanation of codes after pressing the skipplay nad displayoff buttons? Mine has 00910000? and I can t find any datasheet for that. I have the service manual and I own the PDR-555RW model. ps what would be the code after pressign the stop button for normal operation without any problems?

The service manual that I downloaded from HiFi Engine provides error code information starting on Page 45 (Chapter 11). Your error code "91" points to "Loading error".

Hi. Upon service Manual, 509 displays hours of laser use, but not 555. I´ve got one 555 today and it does display 0000, but I see on your video that your 555 displays hour meter. I don´t understand why mine doesn´t. Is there something I do wrong? Thank for your useful videos.

Sorry, Not sure why yours would be different. Do you have the Service Manual? All of the codes are explained there.

@@norbertoalejandrolopezbarr3913 No, I have not updated the firmware. And I did not replace the Elna cap. Simply removed it. No noticeable issues after removing the cap.

You will need to connect the PDR-05 to an audio receiver/amplifier.

Having a different problem, I'm getting "check disc" with cd-r's(plays regular disc's fine), also, pulled code 0001-P6..? Thanks.

Have you tried different brand of CD-R disc? Are you using "Music" type CD-R disc? The error "P6" means that the recorder cannot read the disc TOC (table of contents). You can download the service manual from hifiengine.com that provides more information about the error codes and suggested troubleshooting. Good luck.

That could be hard to locate. Best bet is watch eBay for a "parts unit".

Hi, I have a pdr-555RW slightly used. Great condition.i checked the elna cap and is not leaking apparently. and inside board look as new, cd tray opens and close perfectly, no error shown upon power on(display shows: "00 00:00"), but it does not recognize any CD 😒🤔 I checked laser LED position through wheel and it is seems in factory setting. I tried error code procedure and display shows the following code: "0255 00" Is it an error state? What does it mean this code shown? Thanks in advance.

Thanks..then probably it is not an error. Yesterday i tried to clean the laser LED, but nothing to do. Cd spin normally and after it says "NO DISC" 😑 i tried a lot of CD and even a brand new blank CD-R

Press the SKIP PLAY and MENU keys simultaneously and post back the full 8-character error code. You have a PDR-555RW, right?

@@DCCOWBOYZ According to the service manual, when you press TIME and DISP OFF keys simultaneously on your PDR-509, you should see an 8-character error code. If the full code you're seeing is "5100P6", that doesn't fit what's shown in the service manual. Go to www.hifiengine.com and download the PDR-509 Service Manual. The error codes are shown on pages 47-48.

@@svenschweiger6888 You can find the error codes in the back of the service manual available from HiFi Engine's website. The "dd" code means "Stops owing to a TOC check error or STOP key input". I'm not sure about the 8C421 code. That doesn't quite match the error code format shown in the service manual. I think "8C" might mean a power calibration error. At any rate, it seems your CD Recorder needs a lot of help. Good luck!
